Osteria ae Sconte is a gem for those with the patience to search. And it is not a coincidence that the name of this tavern calls right in the hide-and-seek: hidden in a small square in the sestiere Castello in Venice, Osteria ae Sconte enjoys a calm that is truly unique, in which the peculiarities of the context create that magic that you feel only in Venice. welcome to the Osteria ae Sconte to taste the dishes of the most authentic venetian cuisine, in one of those inns that do not were hoping to find!

Located in a small court, the restaurant offers quiet and (at times cool) seating. The staff is very friendly and the menu and wine card satisfactory. Will definitely come back.

I have visited the lovely city of Venice over 25 times in the past 15 years and am in love with the place, over those years I have stayed in, visited and eaten in a variety of establishments some good, some not and some sadly...no longer here. The city has to provide a huge influx of visitors at peak times and therefore I understand, though not fully agree that standards of service can alter. However a Chef is a Chef and my money is the same in Summer and in Winter. So at the end of another weeks stay we decided to find a quieter spot for our evening meal.... Osteria Ae Sconte, perfectly positioned in a quiet square off the busy Salizada San Lio. On arrival we were show to our table in the lovely courtyard and offered both the food and drink menus. We chose a bottle of wine and to start Capesante and Mushrooms sauteed with prawns in a sauce. Well it said sauce but it was like nothing I had eaten before , the flavour was of HP Sauce fruity and spicy but with an acrid vinegar taste running through it and generally salty all the way through. The Capesante I wont even try to describe ,worst I have ever seen ! On to the main courses ( which took an age to arrive) we ordered tagliatelle with tomatoes in a balsamic sauce and tagliatelle with crab and prawns ( which was served in an actual crab shell) whilst both promised tasty fresh ingredients and homemade pasta (and the time taken to arrive would suggest some form of preparation was taking place) sadly both dishes arrived as clumps of over cooked mushy pasta laden with salt, we actually swapped dishes part way through to check our tastebuds and sadly can confirm they were the same. Dessert avoided we asked for the bill and left. All I can say is give this place a miss ! If you want good food and dont mind the noise eat in the main street,if you want it quiet with good food head two streets away to Cantina Canaletto , Calle de la Malvasia . In summary if your doctor has warned you about your sodium intake or if you prefer badly cooked pasta then eat at Osteria Ae SconteMore

Our hotel recommended this gem, hidden in a small quiet courtyard, far from the maddening crowd. Service is immediately attentive, and we were seated outside, under the shade on a very hot day. The tagliatelle with fresh crab is a must order, as well as...spaghetti with prawns “ae sconte”. Delicious.More

Stumbling upon this enchanting restaurant by accident was a stroke of good luck. We ate outside in a quiet atmospheric courtyard. The service was very accommodating and the food tasty. We enjoyed a pizza to start and then shared some appetizing pasta dishes. The wine...was decent and affordable. The tiramisu for desert was outstanding. A lovely and satisfying dinner in Venice!More

This was a perfect find for us. Great food served by friendly staff in a quiet square just off the main busy streets. We really liked the squid ink pasta and the seafood pizza

A bit hidden in a small alley this is a place worth looking for. We were lucky to get a table for our family without a previous reservation and were welcomed with a smile. We had the seafood risotto and lobster linguine and both were...well prepared (when you go for a risotto you expect to wait for it as it is made to order) and very tasty. A plus for the pizza menu choices that fit the youngsters at the same time. Thank you!More

I tried to find at least something positive about this place, but I really can’t. It’s a total shipwreck. Food: we ordered a day menu (not everyone is a millionaire). Starter was way too salty. Mains was a simple chicken breast with some fried veggies....Seriously? For €20? Service: One word - atrocious.More

One of the best restaurants in Venice! We took Spaghetti Vongole, cuttlefish in Sicilian style and tuna carpaccio and all was just perfect. Really. It is the middle of touristic routes but very quite and peaceful. Hourly recommended

I love this restaurant. It is close to my Hotel Canaletto. The food is delicious. The staff are wonderful. The decor is modern with gorgeous photos. Adele the manager is so accommodating. I cannot speak too highly of this gem in Venezia.

We had dinner based on a recommendation from a local. The waiter was able to seat us (without reservation) quickly. The menu was quite extensive and had lots of options. But I went for the tuna dish "Tagliata di Tonno All'aceto Balsamico" and a tiramasu....Didn't wait for long, food came out fast. While the tuna was beautiful presented, it did not impress me that much. I felt it needed a bit longer cooking and had too much balsamic vinegar. The Tiramasu was good and was also beautifully presented. Waiters did speak English and were really hospitable.More

This was a fabulous experience on our last evening at Venice. Such a friendly service with a decent sense of humour. The dishes were delicious, most notably the risotto with funghi and scampi. Also, it is worth noting that we had a Riesling which was...just perfect with the dish. We will certainly return when we come back to Venice one day. It is our pleasure to recommend this place to you. Thank you for this very special evening.More

We did not book and ate around 7:30, but that was on a Monday night. People constantly streamed in, so a reservation would be a good idea. It certainly doesn't hurt to have it!

I would say on the high end of the dining spectrum for a European city. 30 euro entrees if that helps and well worth the money!
