Rainy and cold in Venice and this was right next door to our hotel...trepidation as the menu out front posted in 4 languages...but the staff were welcoming, the house half bottles of Chianti and Prosecco were quite good and the mussels and clams In white wine - yum. Had scallops with gnocchi which were also very tasty, add the tiramisu... More

We visited Venice this month and were enticed in by an enthusiastic door man.. We were delighted to find a table next to the grand canal and enjoyed an excellent meal. We returned several times and were not disappointed. The house wine was very good and reasonable.

This eating establishment has seats outside right next to the canal. A lovely place to while away a couple of hours with good food and a drink. And the food was good as well. I opted for a good ragu and hubby a carbonara we had bread ,water and wine and the bill was 35 euros. The service was good... More

We were in Venice only one evening. :{ So we were looking for a memorable dinner. SO the front desk at Hotel Antique Figure suggested this place. A short 5 minute walk off the Grand Canal and we found it. Granted it was a Tuesday evening but it was pretty empty. My wife and I looked at each other and... More

We needed a quick dinner on Canale Grande but not too far from Railway Station. This Trattoria not only is a short walk from station and has a cosy terrace on the Canal, but also serves a top quality food in generous sizes and at reasonable price. The Lasagne was absolutely delicious! Service was perfect and views great. Strongly recommended.

The restaurant has pathetic service and the food is real bad. Save yourselves. We ordered gluten free spaghetti, the waiter told us to wait since it will take some time. Seemed reasonably fair. After 30 mins, he came with penne bolognese telling us that Spaghetti is finished. When we told him that we don't like penne, he got rude and... More

I was determined to eat dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Grand Canal. Unfortunately most were either overpriced or poorly rated...until I came across the Povoledo. The outside terrace is directly on the water and is lit with rope lights so you have an excellent and atmospheric view of the boats and gondolas making their way up the Canal. The... More

Our hotel recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed. We had a nice table on the patio which is right on the Grand Canal - great location. However the tables are very close together making it quite crowded, especially if you have smokers near you. The food was excellent value for our money. The salad was large - big... More

We arrived in Venice, tired & hungry after a 27 hour trip & our Hotel recommended this place for dinner. Well, it was excellent. We sat out on the verandah on the Grand Canal. The waiters were excellent as was the food. We had pizza & pasta & a few drinks. All came to 55 Euros which we thought was... More

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. It is easy to find- really close to the train station, along the grand canal. I figured it was going to be a tourist trap. Happily, as it turns out, being touristy doesn't mean that the food can't be delicious. Service is friendly and efficient, and the seafood dishes are really tasty. In... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
