We were in Venice to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and the restaurant was recommended by our hotel. Staff were friendly. Food was good if a little expensive. The catch of the day (sea bass) and although good was particularly pricey. I would've expected local catch to be a bit cheaper. But what the heck we were here to celebrate... More

This cosy restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel ( L'orolgio) and was well worth the visit. The food was freshly prepared and simple, from a small but carefully selected manu and we would certainly return another time.

I visited this restaurant on the recommendation of my hotel, and was not disappointed. Very good service, and a warm welcome from Irina the owner. The quality and freshness of food is high and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Venice.

We have had some good meals in Venice, but this was ghastly! The service (by the Patron and his lady(?)) was good and attentive. The decor and atmosphere were passable. The food was very boring. My wife said that this is was the most boring meal she had had in Venice and possibly in living memory. Her salad had stale... More

Dear Sir, We are sorry to read your review and to learn that your experience at our restaurant was not positive. Concerning the salad, however, we inform you that it is a typical dish called “misticanza” which is distinguished from usual salads for the presence of even dark spontaneous erbs. We are sorry because it would have been sufficient to... More

Many italian restaurants serve the same dishes only with region al variation. How refereshing it was to find Vecio Fritolin with a modest number of offerings, but excellently executed, to offer a style of cuisine that added a modern interpretation to the traditionally flavours and ingredients. This more nouveaux and artistic approach to cooking seems less common in the areas... More

Dear Andrew, we're very happy to hear that you've enjoyed our modern interpretation of Venetian food. Everyday we work hard to propose our clients high-quality dishes and to make them feel comfortable. The yellow color of the tiramisu is due to the nutrition of the hens. The yolk is more yellow if the hens are free and fed with good... More

I was sent to Vecio by the concierge at my near-by hotel. As a solo traveler, I'm never sure what kind of service or table location I will get (in Europe, usually poor). At Vecio, however, despite being the first one there on a Saturday, my table was near the front window and I recieved excellent service. The wine list... More

We wandered in off the street and the restaurant managed to fit us in without a reservation. The staff was friendly and attentive. I recommend the lightly-fried seafood main (fresh, delicate) the sea carbonara (silky, rich, salty), and the bucatini with spicy mussels - all were expertly prepared and properly portioned. The tiramisu was gorgeously textured and just the right... More

We had a superb meal here. The staff were always smiling helpful and friendly. We had the Cichettta plate with fish cooked 4 different ways, superb and scallops were large and tasty. For main we both had the rabbit which was young and tender and beautifully presented on a pea and potato mash base. They through in a couple of... More

A dear friend whose judgment I trust when it comes to cuisine in general and restaurants in particular recommended this restaurant to us when we were in Venice. Our concierge made sure they had a table available before we cancelled a reservation we had already made and we were not disappointed. A small intimate locale located in a tiny alley... More

Description
Venices Vecio Fritolin is a much loved, characterful little restaurant near the Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over a century. It is one of the citys few still-thriving fritolini, precursors of todays fast food eateries, popular in the 1800s with both the rich and less well off. The scrumptious historic finger food is still served, alongside masterpiece variations on other local Venetian and Italian dishes. The seafood and vegetables come daily from the nearby Rialto Markets, and are on the constantly-changing menu within hours. Whether they stumble or deliberately step onto Vecio Fritolin's pink terrazzo floor, everyone's invariably glad they did.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
