Well, in a place like Venice where the average visitor stays just about one day, running a gourmet restaurant does not seem to make a lot of business sense. Despite this general rule, we were lured by the many positive reviews on Trip Advisor as well as by a friend who had been here a few years back and who... More

Booked on line weeks in advance to ensure a Saturday night booking during carnival weekend and we were not disappointed. Fabulous service and food from start to finish served by attentive and friendly but not an overbearing team of staff. Cannot fault anything at all. All course were superbly presented, a sheer taste sensation. 2 x Aperitifs, starters, mains, desserts,... More

Happened across this place by accident but glad we did. Food was very nice and the service friendly too. But I think it;s really set up to be a tasting menu place and maybe that's where they should focus. I would have liked nothing more than to indulge in the euro 50 tasting menu but it was lunch and I... More

One of our favorite restaurants in the world! And trust me, we've tired many many many. Fist off, the bread is hands-down the very best bread I have ever had IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. My wife felt the same way. I told her I could live on this bread alone forever. She agreed. But that was only the beginning of... More

We arrived late for dinner hours and nonetheless the offer us amazing service and options to eat even though the kitchen was close and a big plus they offer me Canine gourmet cookies and water for my dog! A big surprise for any restaurant in Venice. Once again thank you for your kindness and warmth last dinner in Venice.

We visited after recommendation from our hotel. The service was efficient. The set menu at 48 euros was superb and far greater than our appetites could cope with. The waiter suggested wines by the glass to accompany each course and the pairing was excellent. We would definitely return in the future if we have the opportunity. I think the price... More

Excellent and rather unusual food here, beautifully prepared. We had roasted pork bellies with black cabbage and kumquat sauce. My husband had two beers and I had one glass of wine. I had the plumcake with ice cream and warm apple water for dessert and my husband had a cappuccino. Everything was beautifully presented but the atmosphere was a little... More

The fish dish I chose sounded amazing but it turned out to be a few big prawns with a bit of salad. Two glasses of the local white for €14 - really? total €74 for one starter and one dish of big prawns, the bread was good but we came away feeling we'd been had.... shame because we'd heard good... The food here was the best we had Venice. The staff were really attentive and professional. We wanted to try some seafood and theirs was amazing. It was freshly caught and recommended by the waitress. We had the best Tiramisu in Venice here (we sampled a lot!) and the fish was outstanding, in fact all of it was gourmet and... More

It was our last night in Venice, we decided to try this restaurant. We had just eaten something else, so we ordered some water and wine and waited a little before ordering some food. One of the the waitresses treated us well, but another waiter, thin, short bearded, with glasses showed up, and asked if we were ready to order,... More

Dear Sir, i'm pleased to respond you personally, considering the effort you put on describing me. You came in our restaurant, ordered wine and water, and after 35 minutes i came at your table. 35 minutes, not twenty as you mention, while we are not even considering the time you spent to order wine and water. You do say that... More

Vecio Fritolin from Venice is a loved, characterful little restaurant near the Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over a century. It's one of the cities where you still can find "fritolini", precursors of today's fast food eateries, popular in the 1800s with both the rich and less well off. The scrumptious historic finger food is still served, alongside masterpiece variations on other local Venetian and Italian dishes. The seafood and vegetables come daily from the nearby Rialto Market, and are on the constantly-changing menu within hours. Whether they stumble or deliberately step onto Vecio Fritolin's pink terrazzo floor, everyone's invariably glad they did.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
