If you're looking for a Michelin two star, this isn't it. In fact, it's exactly what it appears to be: A local restaurant with simple, but delicious, foods; not-at-all bad cheap house wines; great pizza, great pasta, and -- from my experience (mostly at Mike's Pastry in Boston's North End) -- the world's best cannolis, prepared 100% in house. The... More

Had a late dinner here. It was recommended to have good fish dishes. The pasta pomodoro was good but secondi, the fish plate was rather bad. Some langostinis and cuttle fish all deep fried with a white sauce - not sure what it was. The Patrone was behind a mic and was singing some Italian songs when we entered, far... More

A good true Venitian restaurant in a true Venitian street. They cook local food at reasonable price, especially noodles in cuttlefish ink and grilled prawns. If lucky, the owner, a true Venitian, shall sing local songs; no tourist cheat.

Had a meal here and liked it so much we went back a few times. The service isn't speedy but it means you can soak up the atmosphere. The nights we visited there were the same locals I there and at lunch a locals birthday meal. The food was was freshly prepared, good quality and tasty. The waiting service were... More

The restaurant came highly recommend so much so we booked the night before to avoid disappointment. On arrival our table was ready and we were quickly seated. Unfortunately it then took 30 mins for the waiter to order our drinks he was glum and unattentive this continued throughout the night. The atmosphere is great if you can live with poor... More

This restaurant is one of a number which open into the Via Garibaldi, and – in common with most – serves a pretty standard menu of pizza, pasta and seafood. That said, what we had (pizza, salad and drinks) was pleasant and tasty enough, and didn’t burn as big a hole in our wallets as would have been the case... More

Traditional Venetian food. Superb fish and wine. The owner (Lucio Bisutto) sings songs in venetian dialect (most of them are his compositons) and plays the guitar. He and his staff makes every effort to make you feel at home. Reservation are a must as the place is well aprecciated, and locals visit it often. Llately it has been also discovered... More

Just average. The bread was hard and the gnocchi was very salty. Service was good and attentive. Price seems fair for Venice. I heard a family ask about gluten-free and they couldn't accommodate the request.

We were here on Sunday night and had a wonderful time. The owner and his nephew (?) entertained us with a variety of Italian music from all genres. Our dinner was good and prepared well. The service was a bit slow but we chalked it up to a combination of the entertainment and the Italian lifestyle to relax and enjoy... More

This was recommended by a friend. We were there on a Sunday night so it was quiet and mostly locals. We were a party of nine so we tried quite a few different dishes. The tortellini, gnocchi, risotto and pizza were all good. We did not have any seafood but that is supposedly what they are known for. On many... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
