Traditional Venetian food. Superb fish and wine. The owner (Lucio Bisutto) sings songs in venetian dialect (most of them are his compositons) and plays the guitar. He and his staff makes every effort to make you feel at home. Reservation are a must as the place is well aprecciated, and locals visit it often. Llately it has been also discovered... More

Just average. The bread was hard and the gnocchi was very salty. Service was good and attentive. Price seems fair for Venice. I heard a family ask about gluten-free and they couldn't accommodate the request.

We were here on Sunday night and had a wonderful time. The owner and his nephew (?) entertained us with a variety of Italian music from all genres. Our dinner was good and prepared well. The service was a bit slow but we chalked it up to a combination of the entertainment and the Italian lifestyle to relax and enjoy... More

This was recommended by a friend. We were there on a Sunday night so it was quiet and mostly locals. We were a party of nine so we tried quite a few different dishes. The tortellini, gnocchi, risotto and pizza were all good. We did not have any seafood but that is supposedly what they are known for. On many... More

Popped in here because we've been staying nearby and most other places were full on a rainy night - wish we just got take-away somewhere instead. For the price, the food is not worth it. Reasonable service and wait considering there was a HUGE party of two banquet tables in the front room, but our meals were disappointing. Considering this... More

We returned to this restaurant after a good experience four years ago. The food was good and music and singing was enjoyable. This visit was very disappointing. Staff was not able to handle its popularity. When we were finally seated and finally were served, the food was good but getting a check was very difficult. To say staff was inattentive... More

Lovely spot away from crowds. Food was fine, even though not excellent. Prices seemed reasonable to me. I had Tagliatelle with smoked salmon that tasted very good. Visiting Via Garibaldi is a good call if you want to escape the crowds from the cruise ships.

we had a pleasant evening given the music. Service was a little haphazard and food very disappointing. however, the owner put a lot of effort into the singing and overall it was fine.

If you want to escape the throbbing hordes of tourists and the mediocrity of the tourist eateries, just take a little walk along the waterfront to this gem, where Venetian families dine. But, I think we chose right, by sitting at a table in the back of the restaurant alongside various Venetian families and the owner. We visited on Easter... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
