This was a recommended restaurant that we took great pains to get to. Reservations recommended as it was packed when we left. I ordered crab as the featured appetizer. Served in its shell with lemon. It was ok but nothing special. Lasagna for I was excellent. Waiter was polite. Lots of locals which is always a good sign. We had... More

this added to my first review which is stand by. i just wonder how long it will take tourists to look around and notice that venetians eat very little pasta, especially roman, bolognese, neapolitan, etc., pasta. this is a venetian restaurant with superb venetian food - not the olive garden. tripadvisor has so many reviews of tourists who constantly order... Ate there on our vacation. Served by an arrogant miserable waiter. Time to retire sir. They actually had a dog in the restaurant. I should call the health inspector. Menus just in Italian. What arrogance. Food was good and cheap. Only saving grace. This waiter wasn't worth the $7 tip but that was added to bill. No option. Most restaurants... More

Recommended by our hotel for our group of 8. Very disappointing food. Ordinary. Waiter not accommodating when grilled fish was cold and had to be sent back. Indifferent to customer satisfaction. Tried to explain to mgt what was wrong but they were not responsive. Can't recommend this restaurant based on this experience.

We have never felt the need to write a review, good or bad, until tonight. Our waiter has to be the most ignorant and excessively rude person we have ever dealt with. It was obvious from the start that we were discriminated against because we could not decipher the 'Italian-Only' menu. Descriptions of each meal were given in the most... More

From the outside, this restaurant looks pretty basic and we probably would have walked past it had it not been recommended by our hotel. The menu was in Italian but the waiter was happy to read and translate the entire menu, giving additional explanations and recommendations along the way. We shared scallops for starters. They were simply presented in individual... More

we truly enjoyed this meal! waiter selected a very nice wine for us and helped us with the menu. the prosciutto and melon were very good as well as the other apps we selected. my husband enjoyed the muscles and I had had fabulously prepared, yet simple filet. the service was great too!

The only thing we enjoyed was the raw scampi/prawn we ordered as our app, which to be fair, isn't hard to screw up unless one peels it awfully. Beyond that, the pasta was a little salty or uninspiring, and the waiter wasn't really all that helpful (maybe it's the language barrier). Prices charged, therefore, didn't seem fair.

We visited the da remigio on our honeymoon last week, and we enjoyed an exceptional meal and service. The food was by far the best we experienced in Venice, and felt it was very authentically Venetian and also at a reasonable price. We went for two nights in a row as once we found it we couldn't help but return!... More

Excellent seafood restaurant in a small alley. Must try the seafood soup, any pasta, and squid with ink and polenta. Of course the dessert. Panna cota is really good. Love the Italian waiter and his dry humor. The restaurant has been open since 1945. I think the waiter came with the building :-) it was true Italian experience. There is... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
