This is my second review of this wonderful place. The last (unfortunately) was 5 years ago, but it only gets better. It is hard to find, and they don't take reservations by email or on their website, but once you call for the reservation and find the place (we made a dry run in the morning light), it is such... We had lunch on a cold, rainy day. The decor is pleasant but the tables are very close together. My only complaint. Service was friendly and efficient. There were a number of good selections on the menu. We shared a first course of grilled prawns with a pumpkin crema and a salad with blue cheese and hazelnuts. My husband had... More

This San Polo restaurant specializing in seafood, offering a pleasing blend of both the traditional and the modern, was terrific from start to finish. And what a finish, the Gianduiotto delle Carampane (hazelnut chocolate mousse) was a perfect exclamation point to our last evening in Venice. (Reservations strongly suggested.)

The service was the worst that we have ever had in our life! We set in one table and the waiter asked us to move to another, saying we will be more comfortable in the new one... So we moved. Then, while eating the main courses the waiters kept asking us "did you finish?" Every few minutes, when our main... More

Unfriendly staff, so-so food and highly priced. Very disappointing given the stellar reviews we had read.

Biglio (whole wheat pasta) with onion-anchovy sauce was the highlight of a superb dinner at this marvelous Venetian bistro in the San Polo district. My wife’s St Pierre was beautifully prepared as well. Excellent service, good wines. Our best bistro dinner in Venice.

You need to book in advance They do 2 sittings and it's very busy Worth it The raw fish and soft shell crab were amazing And all the dishes were excellent The bill was huge but worth it and we did push the boat out but don't think you can do it on the cheap here

vastly over-rated, over-priced and surly service - we were offered appetizer of krill-like crustaceans - next course was pasta with same krill-like crustaceans (now 12 euro for a bowl of pasta, which was mediocre) - next assorted seafood friture (fried and dry seafood?) - bread was worst we had in Venice = white loaf? Service was slow to serve fast... More

Although only 5-10 minutes from the Rialto bridge this is not easy to find so take a map.We had reserved a table through our hotel but they had no knowledge of the booking. They did manage to find us a table though they were pretty full. The food does not really live up to its high reputation. We paid 143 euros for... More

We heard so much about this place and believe me it will take you some time to find its location. The food is good but the service is on the slow side.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
