We stayed close by for several nights and stumbled upon this while exploring some "back" streets. Very unique dining room, very good service despite appearing to be understaffed and food was very good. Order something that needs to be sliced (salami ham etc), very cool antique machine, they don't make them like that or this restaurant any more. Quite an... More

When we walked in and saw locals eating here, gondoliers and other businessmen, it was a clue to what was in store. Excellent food superbly prepared with the freshest ingredients. Highly recommended.

Our B&B host suggested this place, for seafood and something diffirent everyday. We arrived and were greeted by the owner a real capo who seated us. We ordered their house wine and were pleasantly surprised that it had the name of the place on it. I orderd appetizer, first, second, third and dessert thats just how freshly prepared and amazing... But worth writing a few words for fellow travellers. We had fish with artichoke and I can't remember the other dish, though we went only two days ago! This in itself tells how bland the food was. It was not terrible, but not that good either. Service was fine, in a cantina style. Nothing there to be commended, but the... More

This restaurant was very close to the apartment we rented, and was recommended. From the exterior and small outside seating area, it appeared closed. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was open. Unfortunately the 'hostess' was less than welcoming. There was an open booth at the back that we requested; before we finished asking, we were dismissed and... More

Dinner before a concert at Teatro al Fenice. A set menu of local food had been prepared for London Brass who were performing but the proprietor was more than happy to include us (4) at short notice as our son in law was performing. Great food, nice surroundings and plenty of house wine. Would definitely go back

So pleased that we found this place on TripAdvisor and very surprised at the low ranking, this place deserves to be in at least the top 100 in Venice surely! The key word here is authenticity. The menu varies daily and on Mondays (when we visited) they don't serve fish as the fish market is closed. So all the main... More

Interesting menu that had a combination of expected and unexpected dishes. My wife had a curried chicken over rice (not usual Italian fare, but very tasty) and I had a sliced beef that ended up being memorably tangy after a pasta in a delicious pink sauce. We had a delicious chocolate desert. They were also accomodating to our request for... More

Menu changes daily and the staff is more than happy to explain everything. (although you can figure the menu out with the short "dictionary" included in the menu) The pasta was stunning and the veal ragout was something special. This place is a bit away in a side street but well worth a visit.

We found this up a side street not far from the Teatre de Fenice. The menu varies from day to day. Not for those who want pizza or pasta but if you want to sample well cooked regional specialities with good service this is the place for you. Our waiter took the time to explain what each dish consisted of... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
