First ime in my life I have seen a pizza with the peeled tomatoes, almost crude. YOu know , in Italy you can buy three kinds of tomatoes in cans in the supermarket: in sauce, in little pieces, or the whole single tomato which is peeled and put in one single piece into the can. But seeing a not-cooked peeled... More

We happened upon this place one afternoon and sat in the sun with a reasonable priced bottle of wine. We came back for dinner on our last night but we failed to read the other reviews before hand as we had done with other places we had eaten at. We were told there would be a wait for food but... Delicious small bites, terrific pizzas, friendly and attentive staff. Had a great lunch experience. Their sister restaurant next door has a Michelin star so they know food at this place. A great spot for lunch.

We chose to eat dinner here on our first night in Venice and were sorely disappointed, The waiters were not at all attentive, we waited for absolutely ages before we managed to get a menu. Our food arrived two minutes from being ordered, so clearly wasn't freshly prepapred. It was cold and uninspiring, Meatballs dry, warm and not at all... More

Bruchetta were warm with cold tinned tomato puree. Pizzas had tinned tomato, dried not fresh herbs, tasteless ham and mushrooms. Really unacceptable.

This restaurant was recommended in the Rough Guide for Italy, so we went there for our first supper in Venice, and ordered two pizzas. The pizza was terribly disappointing... cheese was rubbery, no flavour at all. Prices were sky high. Waiter brought the food and never came back. We had to go up and get him to get our bill.... This small restaurant in a square near to San Marco is a perfect spot for lunch. Away from the crowds you can sit and relax with excellently prepared fresh seafood. My husband had anchovies in a garlicy sauce that was delicious. I wasn't too hungry and had two appetizers which was more than enough food. One was an original spinach... More

An enoteca should have been a clue to pricey bottle of wine suggested by our hostess. No house wine offered. The pizza Margerita was very good as was the special pasta with lobster. I think we enjoyed the bread here--ah bread and wine.Stick to beer and pizza or a glass of vino and pizza here. Bottled water is served in small... More

This place looks lovely from the outside, which is why we decided to stop for lunch. It was only half-full for Saturday lunch so we had no problems with finding a table. Despite having a lot of wait-staff working, the service was very slow and and the staff were rude. The couple sitting at the table next to us walked... More

Lovely looking restaurant good friendly staff. We decided on this restaurant as we were walking around trying to find somewhere and it was heaving so assumed it must be ok as there were a lot of locals in there. The food was not bad tasty very fresh although our mains could have been a little bigger. It was well priced... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
