Osteria Stendhal is tucked away from the hustle/bustle of downtown Milan. I had lunch on the terrace and it was a fantastic experience. Great service and delicious local Italian food...the Spaghetti Pomodoro was phenomenal. Un meraviglioso ristorante!!!

The restaurant was comfortable without being too fancy, the prices were reasonable, and the service was attentive without being cloying. The food other than the pastas was good, though not outstanding, but the fresh pastas we had were indescribably delicious (fresh tagliolini with black truffles and very simple spaghetti pomodoro). My suggestion is to go for pasta and more pasta.

My Milanese cutlet covered the plate and I was so glad I ordered it with arugula and tomatoes rather than potatoes as it was covered in them and with a bit of their wonderful olive oil and balsamic I had a superb side dish. When I said, "How am I ever going to eat all this?", the waiter, Luigi, said,... More

We sat on the outdoor patio for what turned out to be an amazing lunch. We went with no expectations, and loved everything. I highly recommend any of the truffle dishes. Service and food were all wonderful.

We ate here during the heat wave in July 2016. It was not crowded at all, and we ended up in a large room with a few tables of Americans. We were kinda running out of options where to eat. This is a classic Milano Bistrot. The trick I think is to order carefully. My Negroni was on point. My... More

If you are going to visit Milano during spring-summer season, chance of lunch in the terrace of this ancient osteria is a must. I recomend you to try the linguine all'astiche, it's a very tipical italian dish; very tasty, prepared with linguine, clams and lobster. The best way to finish your lunch is a fresh and digestive shot of limoncello!

Our hotel recommended this restaurant, it was quiet when we arrived but soon filled up with Italians which is a good sign. I had the caprese to start, nice mozzarella but the tomatoes lacked flavour in the same way we get in the UK. Shrimp pasta was very nice, service was pleasant from a young lady. We ate outside under... More

It's the Wandering Yank here. Mrs. Yank and I spent a couple of days in Milan recently. On our first night, an Italian friend strongly recommended the Stendhal, so we went for dinner and back again a couple of days later for lunch. That tells you what we thought of it :) The maitre'd (or maybe owner) greeted us heartily.... More

Staying in Brera

Neighborhood Profile
Brera
Brera captures the real essence of the city. It is an excellent mix between history and modernity, where tradition meets innovation. Here design and beauty reign. On Via Brera there are the famous Pinacoteca (galleries), the National Gallery of Modern and Antique Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Interior design boutiques and intellectual cafes are typical of the district. Walking along Via Madonnina is a must to admire the architecture of buildings and the design stores. On Sundays, going to the local market is an unmissable opportunity for fashion, style and art. Tucked away, there is the Orto Botanico di Brera botanical garden that seems like a painting framed in an ancient fairy structure. Last but not least, it’s worth a visit to Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli with its Planetarium, the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum).
