Osteria del Treno served us a menu which not only offered good wholesome traditional well cooked Milanese food but also a taste of the local culture. This is not an eating house which is known or attracts tourists but it does encourage the locals who obviously have come to love and respect the quality and presentation of del Treno meals.... More

This restaurant is it working man's place from old times comma where the trained workers will come to have lunch or dinner. I had a simple plate of spaghetti and ragu made with cow's tail. My friend and I shared a starter of cold cuts and we also shared a plate of cheese to finish up the meal. With a... More

I have dined here on a few occasions as family living in Milan are fans. A traditional room, sober, pure, authentic and toying with rustic, has been given a lick of contemporary urban trend with, what seems, the ubiquitous matt tones of "Farrow & Ball". Appealing to a the aesthetic sensibilities of a Milan middle class is thus assured. Food... More

Frankly we went there the first night in Milan - and we wanted a pasta dish. The pasta selection in this restaurant was fairly limited. We had starters and maindish - and it was okay, without being anything really to remember. It is close to Westin Palace, but there must be better choices. The place was recommended by the Portier... We went here as it was near our hotel and we didn't regret it. The ossobuco was lovely, but the especially the caponatina was one of the best I ever had. Everything was very fresh. Prices are very reasonable and service was very friendly. I'd go back anytime.

My colleagues took us to this very local place, hidden away in a residential area of the city. We loved everything from the appetizers (too many!!) to the risotto, dessert, etc. Not stuffy at all, or too formal - just right for a fun dinner out. Next business trip we'll defintitely be back!

Simple, not particularly elegant decor, but really interesting, unusual food for a non-local. First I had an absolutely lovely spaghetti with beet greens, pine nuts, and anchovies --along with just the perfect amount of olive oil to make a fascinating, totally coherent dish. Then I had the Bollito (tongue and cheek of beef, no kidding --it's what you see in... More

ate lunch at this busy osteria. not much english spoken once we were through the front bar and into the restaurant. not sure what we were doing but soon realised that you must order directly with kitchen through serving hatch. waitress will then bring bread and drinks once you are seated. food ok but interesting overall experience. fellow diners mainly... Traditional food from Lombardia . The dishes are prepared using traditional recipes, with local ingredients. A must in Milano.

Excellent place to try local specialties. Meat heavy and good wine selection. During the winter the outdoor seating is closed and slow periods they close the main dining area. But the smaller areas are intimate spaces that provide a nice atmosphere and they have good service as well.

Surrounding it are large towers that define Piazza Gae Aulenti, where the fountain and the Monumento Trombe leave one breathless. A famous building of the district is the Vertical Forest, where the innovative materials and trees planted on the terraces are a unique mix of nature and man-made construction. In the district, there is the Monumental Cemetery, known for its antique tombs with sculptures portraying angels of commemorative scenes many will find touching.
