A small menu is compensated by the excellent dishes, perfectly chosen wine list and excellent service. All you need to spend a quiet dinner.

Seriously, this experience made me doubt Trip Advisor ratings! Me and my wife really like food and two weeks ago we went to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had the tasting menu and the food was below any expectation. Every dish was more disappointing than the one before. The fish/sea food products were obviously frozen before and didn't get the... the place belongs to the 5 stars hotel of the chain 'leading hotels of the world', it says already a lot. Just a walking distance from the Duomo, you access it from a small alley. You must ring the door to get inside the old classy Italian restaurant. It is pretty small, you can expect it to be a quite... More

Don Carlos is the upscale restaurant in the Grand Hotel et de Milan. It is small and intimate (10 tables) with original artwork for La Scala lining its walls, so perfect for a romantic or special evening. I believe they said the kitchen stays open until midnight to accommodate people after the performance at La Scala. It is set in... More

We were staying at the hotel and decided on Don Carlos for our last night. We were the only diners at the early time of 7;30, but as usual in Europe most diners eat later. The staff were lovely and very helpful with knowledge of the food and wine offered. All in all a memorable evening

Sat at the bar; good barman; had wiskey sour (bit to heavy on the lemon); the pulpo for dinner: outstanding! Nice atmosphere (calm) as one of last privately owned Hotels. Didn't try Restaurant this time but will next time (and may stay at Hotel too)

Don Carlos is an elegant, old -world style Milan restaurant. We enjoyed it immensely. The interior is charming and the location, thirty steps in from such a busy street, is just the beginning of the serenity that defines dinner here. On this Tuesday evening, the dining room contained only one other couple. Eventually, we were joined by a single young... More

Don Carlos is located in the Hotel de Milano, where Guiseppe Verdi used to stay and passed away. The restaurant is very nice and elegant, and the service is excellent. We had some Terrine de Foie Gras, roasted octopus, and a Rissotto with bone marrow, all very good!!! As main entrees we had the duck magret, a steak, the suckling... More

Description
The Don Carlos, pays homage to Maestro Giuseppe Verdi, who stayed
at the Grand Hotel et de Milan for more than twenty years. An intimate and
elegant setting with paintings, sketches and scene-paintings from the La
Scala Theatre Museum. The Don Carlos Restaurant serves Italian traditional
cuisine under the light of its antique silver chandelier.

Under the executive management of the Chef Angelo Gangemi, the Don Carlos
offers a traditional Italian cuisine which presents all ingredients
according to their seasonality, interpreting with originality and refinement
menus taken from the flavours and fragrances of the Mediterranean tradition.
It is listed in the leading guide-books and reviews as one of the most
exclusive restaurants in Milan, having reached a top gastronomic level, with
excellent service in an elegant atmosphere. In the cellar, that prides
itself on 200 labels, you can find the remains of an old Roman wall that
dates back to 250 AD. Open for after theatre dinners, in the warm seasons it
is also possible to eat outdoors.

Staying in Brera

Neighborhood Profile
Brera
Brera captures the real essence of the city. It is an excellent mix between history and modernity, where tradition meets innovation. Here design and beauty reign. On Via Brera there are the famous Pinacoteca (galleries), the National Gallery of Modern and Antique Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Interior design boutiques and intellectual cafes are typical of the district. Walking along Via Madonnina is a must to admire the architecture of buildings and the design stores. On Sundays, going to the local market is an unmissable opportunity for fashion, style and art. Tucked away, there is the Orto Botanico di Brera botanical garden that seems like a painting framed in an ancient fairy structure. Last but not least, it’s worth a visit to Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli with its Planetarium, the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum).
