Did you know that Bilacus was the anscient name of Bellagio. This is for the story. The restaurant is located in the center of the little city of Bellagio. You will climb some stairs to reach the place but your efforts will be awarded by the place, the food and the service. I heard by locals that Bilacus was specialed in serving fresh good fishes from the lake, like persico fish. We took one fish for two, just grilled with some vegetables. Just succulent. Choose preferably the terrace, you will smell a kind of Bellagio atmosphere which is a blend of gorgeous scenery and a glimpse of old fascionned luxury. The staff so helpful and professionnal, the suggestion to try a local grappa that you can find only here was brilliant. The place to have a peace of heart of Bellagio.

Amazing food and excellent service!

We couldn’t fault the attentive service from start to finish. Really reasonably priced food for such great quality, would recommend the pork dishes and also the half bottles of wine was a nice touch. Overall a perfect dinner.

The service here was some of the best we had while in lake como. The selections of wines were phenomenal and the recommendations were even better. We enjoyed the fish of the day to share and it was cooked incredibly, we were also very pleased with the selection of sides that came alongside the fish as often they are disappointing. Really lovely spot to eat, in a very busy Bellagio.

Worst thing ever. Please do not go.

Never ever been more dissapointed. I have visited many places before, all over the world from cheap to fancy. But it is not the place you want to be in Bellagio. We were hungry and we wanted to eat a pizza as a tradition, but before we had time to look in the menu, they already started the bill with water, which may be ok if you realy want to stay in that place. Because we did not find what we wanted in the menu, we asked about the selection of cheese plate and the answear was “almost nothing”. We ordered it anyway, and they started to complain/ gossip about us in italian, thinking that we would not understand it. The food was good, but not worthy the price. Also, while we were there, another couple came by and asked for a table, but they turned them down saying their kitchen is close, when actually it was not. They want to be a fancy restaurant, but they are actaully a pricy cheap one. Never been more dissapointed about a service. You would expect more of a service for such and expensive restaurant.

The meal started badly, and went downhill from there

The good news was that there was a table available, the setting was lovely, and Bellagio is a very pretty place. It was quite early - 19:30 - I suspect that they served us quickly hoping to get us out early enough to get another group of four in and out before they closed. They screwed up our starters, one of which didn't turn up, and one that we hadn't ordered turning up in its place. Getting the attention of someone to point out their error took far too long. I don't think they were very under staffed, it was more a case of having too many staff with too little experience. So the offending item was removed, and replaced, quite quickly, with the correct dish. About a nanosecond after that was finished, the mains arrived. Do not order the lamb! It was dangerously undercooked, so we asked for it to be cooked some more. Parts were still virtually raw. We complained (politely), and, to their credit, we weren't charged for it, but still, at those prices, two mistakes, one of which was not properly resolved, is hard to pardon. Had they offered us a free drink, or dessert, maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't have felt so annoyed. But they didn't even have the grace to do that. A restaurant to be avoided.

Great service, wonderful food, beautiful outdoor terrace...

My wife, four daughters and I visited Bilacus twice the week of August 2nd. The staff was the most disciplined we've seen with masks on 100% of the time, temperature readings upon arrival, etc. The service they provided was really very good. They accommodated my wife's gluten-free diet and my children's various requests. I tried the Trout the first time and Branzino the second - both were simple and delicious. I also loved the grilled vegetables appetizer and caprese salad. We arrived early (6:30 both nites) as seating can be difficult later without a reservation. Thank you to the staff and chef for two wonderful dinner experiences. We will come back again next year!!!

Fantastic lunch - service and food both impressive!

A friend had recommended Bilacus in Bellagio. I have to say it was worth the hour and a half drive and ferry ride from Lugano to get there. The staff was genuine, warm and truly friendly. They fluently speak most languages and truly made us feel at home, not like they were catering to us. My girlfriend had their daily pasta special of Tagliatelle with truffles and butter sauce, and I had the risotto with fried perch. Both were phenomenal! We started with a couple of glasses of sparkling wine and then appreciated the sommelier's wine selection and have a lovely local bottle of red wine. Overall I have to say the meal was the highlight of my stay in the area so far.

Worthy Choice

In a beautiful tourist magnet of a place it is impossible to avoid your fellow strangers. Of course, some behave better than others and restaurants and merchants have to put up with the whole lot. The greeting here really seems sincere and genuine, with the kind of wait staff you would like to have on your side. We had a very pleasant lunch outside on their terrace and felt a bit removed from the tourist throngs. Their wine list is like a library of fine wines, especially when it comes to Piemonte and Toscana. There is a decent selection of wines by the glass and a few well chosen half bottles. We were happy to see a Masi Amarone for 35 Euros, a fair price for a really fine wine. Buffalo Mozzarella with tomatoes, Gnocchi with Sweetbreads, Sicilian Cannoli, we were very happy with our choices. The menu is a bit limited, but my impression is that they do many things well. If we return to Bellagio, we would be delighted to revisit this restaurant.

A fantastic classy restaurant with personable attentive service. Our best meal in Belaggio by a long distance. excellent food and wonderful wine selection hand picked by their Sommelier. The sommelier was humble when choosing our wine within our budget and did not make us feel pressured to spend more. The waiters had a touch of class and extremely personable. I wish all table services were like this. I would recommend the steak !!

Still the nice setting but…

I have been coming to this restaurant for many years and unfortunately since it’s changed ownership the prices have gone up and the standards of food and friendly service has gone down. Tartare was tasteless and my risotto was way over seasoned and under cooked. Wine menu was more like a wine encyclopaedia and lacking just enjoyable table wine. Setting is still lovely however new deco has gone quite clinical. Please bring back the classic Italian dishes including fish of the day and large platters of anti pasta what you used to serve and the carafes of local wine.

This used to be a delightfully old fashioned restaurant with excellent courteous service and I have been going there for 40 years. Boy have things changed! No booking without a credit card. No Parmesan cheese spontaneously offered with our dishes of pasta. We asked for salad first as a starter followed by pasta dishes for main and they brought everything together and the waiter was very put out when we picked him up on this. My friend was headed for the toilet and was told rudely by the waiter that she was “in the way”. A delightful restaurant sadly ruined and will become a tourist joint over charging and has lost all of its previous charm and treatment of patrons. The previous head waiter always welcomed me by name and could not have been more delightful. Very sad to see this one hit the deck and over charge to boot. Furthermore (non discriminatory) but a lot of the staff seemed South American. They did not know much about the dishes they were serving and the menu was very limited.

Usually I do not answer to reviews but in the case I will, touching the staff in a discriminatory way it is not my cake. Yes world it is changing. The head waiter welcoming you was the previous owner Angelo , I took over 7 years ago and unfortunately I do not know people before my time.and did no see you probably in between those 7 years. Yes things are changing... credit card needed to book on hold (never charge a person so far) because previously people booked and never came.... so no show. Since the credit card it is on hold people at least call before if the can not come. South Americans.... Angelo use to have them on as I took over his on staff.... Trust me, they are more professional than you did not credit them for. Trouble is that you did not notice them or did not want too. Things are changed in the world and pandemic did not make us better...that's a pity.

Possibly the worst review I’ve ever given

Few things we actually liked: the location and its setting. Other than that not a lot to like. The food was bland, seriously underseasoned, boring. We noticed that the bottle of water, which costs 5 EUR, is not being opened in front of the clients (our table and then we watched the others as well), meaning they are probably refilling with tap water. If so, completely unacceptable. Final check came too high for one main dish each and one glass of wine (no appetizers, no dessert). I’d stay away!

Beautiful terrace, delicious food!

This restaurant is located on one of the most picturesque streets in Bellagio! It has a beautiful outdoor terrace (also a smaller indoor area) that we really enjoyed. The wine list was one of the biggest I'd ever seen, but the waiter helped us narrow down the options and helped us choose something we enjoyed! We got the lake fish appetizer and it was delicious! Several different types of fish cooked several different ways - a great sampling of lake fish! For dinner, the oxtail ravioli was absolutely delicious, although I wish I'd gotten more than 3! The risotto with perch was yummy and definitely something I'd never seen before and it's always fun to try something new! The wait staff was very attentive and the service was wonderful. We really enjoyed our dinner here!

So good we went back for more

We chose Bilacus purely for its location so we were very fortunate to have stumbled on such an excellent restaurant. Every waiter was professional, polite and helpful, social distancing strictly adhered to (and they all wore masks) and the food...ah, the food! The special was truffle pasta which was divine. The penna arrabiata and lake fish rissotto were also delicious. That was lunch. For dinner on our last night (a Tuesday), I'm so glad we booked because it was heaving!! I had grilled fish & seafood which was delicious and plentiful. We opted for cheese instead of desert - the soft cheese "al cucchiao" was amazing, my pecorino served with honey and crackers was a revelation. An all-round, excellent ristorante - grazie mille.

Absolutely fantastic

We have been here for a week and this is hands down the best restaurant we have been to. We felt so welcome, the waiters are wonderfully attentive and took the time to explain the menu in great detail. We had the best sea bass I ever had, filleted at the table in front of us. Also really well known for their meats. Some of the restaurants in bellagio are just money grabbing tourist traps but this one has a soul. They take huge pride in their food and service - We honestly felt like the only guests in the restaurant. Don’t miss it !!!
