A real disappointment

Only the location stands out, overlooking the sea and among the lemon trees. Parking is difficult, but somehow we manage. Unfortunately, the food was really a disappointment, especially the pesto and the pansoti with walnut sauce. We really felt terrible about it... and the feeling of nausea and heaviness didn't leave us until the evening. Prices not even that low, to tell the truth. I honestly don't recommend it.

Over the last decade (and a bit) I’ve travelled to Nervi with a group of friends and after having tried a few different hotels in the village we finally stumbled across Sant’Ilario - and that was it for us. Since our first visit we’ve been back 8 consecutive summers. The staff is amazing, the views are the best you’ll find and the food is great. We will keep going back to Nervi and would not consider staying anywhere else.

I wish I had read the reviews in Italian of Sant'Ilario - La taverna del Sole before going. We had a poor experience due to the rudeness of the staff, especially the older blond woman. We did not eat in the restaurant. This is a review of the accommodations. We stayed in the ocean view rooms and they were very nice and the view was beautiful. Since I do not speak Italian, I used e-mail to make the reservation and my e-mail correspondence was very friendly and warm with Alice Sceresini. But when we arrived, the woman there was unfriendly--I do not know if she was Alice. She was nice at the very beginning. We were four people -- two adults and two teenagers. We booked two rooms. The first morning, the younger woman who works there accused our son of throwing stones in the pool, which was absurd, since he is a young gentleman and anyway we did not use the pool. The second morning, my wife and daughter apparently chose the wrong table for breakfast and the older woman scolded them loudly in Italian. When we left, the older woman would not look at us or say goodbye. People who run a guest house should make their guests feel welcome and try to be friendly rather than rude. The next day, we went on to Lucca and stayed at a place with very warm and friendly people who asked us if we needed anything and wanted us to be comfortable. We thought maybe the owners do not like people who do not speak Italian, but I think they are rude to many people. Maybe they just decided they didn't like the look of us for some reason. Despite the wonderful view, I cannot recommend that you give your business to these people if you do not want to be insulted.

Fantastic food, everything is homemade except the salt and pepper! All food is home grown by the owners of this wonderful restaurant and agritourism. One can see all the vegetables growing from the bedroom window. Even the cheese and salami is produced on site, with milk from their own animals. Herbs are used in abundance.I loved the swimming pool to cool down from the heat. The bed room windows look over the sea, and it is a wonderful sight. We discovered wonderful walks in the mountains and sea promenades near by. We also visited the cinque terre by boat. Genoa is a really interesting city to visit by bus, very historic, steeped in history and art. Nervi, nearby, is a really chic elegant place with lots of art galleries. The best icecream bar in the world is nearby in Nervi (chicco's). The owners are fabulous people, so friendly and informative. This is an undiscovered gem for those of you who have not yet been there, dont miss out!!! I cant speak highly enough of this holiday. Im going back in 2012!

Area located on the heights of Sant'Ilario with a breathtaking view. The farm is surrounded by greenery and the welcome was immediately warm with the owner very kind and nice! The menu is fixed with the possibility to choose whether to eat only the first (second) or complete. If contacted the day before you can also request a fish menu because the dishes are predominantly land. As a starter we were served a tomato salad accompanied by homemade turmeric bread, which was a wonder. Large portions and really very tasty, really good, with pansoti and dumplings, including walnut sauce and pesto, made by them. I had spaghetti alla bottarga which was the end of the world. Very nice location but the food was nothing special (the pesto was terrible and the pansoti with a walnut sauce that wasn't there!). Very cold welcome. Cost 40 euros per person (30 euros fixed plus water and wine) not exactly cheap for a farmhouse.

A day on vacation

We had lunch on the veranda with a nice group of friends. Starters ready on the table, cured meats, Russian salad and homemade bread, followed by three first courses and a nice mixed grill of meat. Everything is good and in the right quantities, the prices of the wines are right and a very nice outdoor space, perfect for those with children.
