This restaurant hearkens back to Austrian era cooking. Hearty plates, groan with sausage - even the plates are made to look like a pig. If you like lots of meat then this is the place for you. Busy and queues form early in the evening. Not so many tables inside, so if it's raining get there in good time.

S simple and very succesful place with long tradition worth to visit when hungry in Trieste. They know how to do it another 100 years.

The place is iconic in Trieste and is one of the places anybody visiting or living in Trieste should go to at least once. It's basically a fast-food as it was intended in 1800. A must try is "porcina": boiled pork neck -sliced and served with grated horseradish and mustard- that is amongst Trieste's most authentic foods.

Surprisingly, the restaurant offers typical Austrian and German dishes on a very high standard of quality. The veal tonge with sauerkraut has been the best I have eaten for a long time.

Prefacing this with the fact that I am a pescatarian (a fish-eating vegetarian.) My carnivorous spouse loved this restaurant. It was recommended by an Italian friend. He wasn't sure what he ordered but when the platter came it was covered in boiled meats. Corned beef, ham, sausages. It can all be covered with freshly grated horseradish if you ask. There... More

The food itself was really good and the service too. Without any doubt this was the manliest food I ever ate in Italy and I live here for 2 months. The only downside might be that I was a little bit still hungry after it

The place was quite crowded when we tried to enter. After some waiting time, we got some tables, but not much space overall. We ordered the standard pork mix which is freshly cut. That was ok but uneven, depending of the pieces. We were lacking some green vegetables, the sauer kraut was ok. Prices are reasonable though.

The best fresh food that you are salivating watching them cut up the food in preparation for your enjoyment The experience is a must to watch the team in action. Grated horseradish, mustard, Russian salad, baccala manticato, cold beer and the red wine all a must try You will be back for more

This is really something special what you can eat in Trieste. We were two persons, eating 'piatto misto for two'. We were served immediately and received a variety of pork meet which all tasted very good. I recommend to everyone who would like to taste original trieste food, coming from Slovenian tradition.

If you need a fast lunch in the city center and you want something of very typical you must come here: very familiar ambient, good quality of food (especially ham and boiled meat), beer and wine and low price.
