Great place friendly rapid service, lovely home cooked food. Just up the road from our hotel, wet evening. Just what we wanted at a great price, full of local people.
Restaurant : Romance of Life Having written a review of a visit over a year ago about this restaurant…and my intention of visiting Piasenza again with the sole purpose gf enjoying again this family run restaurant…here I am. Again very comfortable, clean accommodation, 25 euro...each per night and again the pleasure of entering the restaurant evening time and enjoying the ease, the banter, enjoying the thought that the food was to be presented as part of the restaurant atmosphere and not on a private table, on an individual plate to be micro examined and commented on. No! As of last year it came as part of the feeling of eating in a family community. The presence of family, the 'old' father whose work and smile of pleasure, the son, mother, waiters, and cook... all lent a genuine feeling of a 'thousand welcomes' We were remembered and again enjoyed our stay of two days. Again so nice to see the same staff (always a good sign), some of the same customers, (another good sign). The old man beside us asked for pasta and the waitress reeled off a list of different types but he seemed to come back to Pasta a la burgh', (that's how it sounded to me) so was curious to see what would come. Well! just a plain plate of pasta which he slowly covered and stirred well with grated cheese and obviously enjoyed immensely. This was followed by rice with some mushrooms tossed in, which again he mixed well with grated cheese and enjoyed with all the wisdom of his age. Why mention this, well this 'food' I did not see on the menu and it recalled last year when the cook came out to chat with one of the older locals with the food discussed and ordered there and then. Allow the cook to offer what he has selected that day and you will have the pleasure of his cooking. On returning the room key the following day we popped our head into the kitchen, only to be invited in and what a wonderful site to see the whole staff, making their own pasta, with fillings etc…and my 13 year old son encouraged to have a go. I then fully understood the wisdom of the old man's choice the previous evening, love of home made pasta. Go there... these type of restaurants may not exist in 20 years. Our selfles, our individualisms, our nice candle light couple dinner will not allow the wonders and pleasures to be found in the all inclusiveness that you will find on your visit here. Here you find a restaurant of romance but not the individual/couple romance isolated at its own table but the wonderful Romance of Life as it interacts on a daily basis. Each customer had character, rich in their individuality…and like me they knew why they came. Evening time around 8h30 is a good time to be there and the menu has an excellent Italian mix..I have learned this time (the great advantage of family run) if you want your salad or pasta your way, the good family cook will only be too happy to oblige. And oh! a minor point, when my son couldn't decide on which of the 3 desserts he would like...why not a small piece of each one? Wonderful Oh God! Pity it is a 6 hour drive.More
On my way to Florence last year I stayed, (August)with my 12 year old son, in the Restaurants BxB rooms which were neat, tidy and excellent value for about 25-30 euro. We saw the restaurant and decided it didn't look bad and might give it...a try later. Well what an experience, packed with locals with the history of life written all over their faces, the chat, the laughs, the atmosphere, wine from a barrel in jugs, no tight measure and what wonderful food. Packed which says it all, we stayed a second night just to experience it again…and have just sent a mail to reserve for two nights again…just to experience this restaurant. I don't speak Italian but body language here had both of us well included. Wonderful!More
I often eat at this restaurant since from my second visit onwards I've always been welcomed as an old friend. It doesn't seem much to look at from the outside and is certainly not a place for gourmets, but if you're looking for a good...meal at very reasonable prices this is the place to go. The staff are so friendly and attentive, dishes can be modified if necessary (I'm intollerant to parsley) the food is well prepared and always arrives piping hot and the portions are enormous! Traditional Italian first course dishes, choice meat or fish available for second course and a variety of homemade desserts to finish off. I would definately recommend to those travelling on a budget but who want a good quality meal.More
