A real "osteria"

The best place where to go if you want to experience how an italian tavern looks like and taste genuine food at a very good price. Be prepared if the innkeeper offers you to share the table with strangers, after a couple of glasses of wine they won't be strangers anymore! The atmosphere is very... read more

We saw this restaurant on a number of different blogs so we decided to give it a go and we were so glad we did! It was truly an authentic experience and the food was fantastic, as was the welcome we got from Ermes and his family. It's a tiny place and you have to queue outside with the locals... More

I need to add my glowing, gushy review with all of the others! I just went to Ermes today with my husband and had the best time ever! This place is a blast and one of those restaurants where the good experience almost overshadows the food. This is a tiny, loud, local, honest and traditional spot. We were greeted warmly... More

This place is incredibly special and its easy to see why its a beloved Modena institution. We arrived shortly before their 12:30 opening on a Friday. There wasn't a wait so we grabbed seats at one of the 5 communal tables. Ermes greets us and immediately asks if we want Lambrusco or white wine. We couldn't decide so we said... More

Ermes welcomes you (in Italian) and assures you that you will like what they have cooked for the day (also in Italian). If you go with friends and family, order one of everything and share it all. They truly cook some of the best food I've ever had in Italy, let alone Modena. Don't forget to order some lambrusco to... More

I had read about this place is a slow food guide. It warned to go early - and they weren't kidding. I believe they only serve lunch - I recommend arriving about 15-20 minutes before they open. No matter when you go there will be a wait - but if you don't make it early you'll be waiting to be... More

We showed up with five people. The restaurant was full but the crew invited us back three quarters later. We were welcomed in a most friendly manner and had a great real italian meal. The chef and the owner joint our table at each ciurse to explain the dishes. Three hours later and very satisfied we said goodby.

We were lucky to get in. Six people showing up at Ermes, with it´s no reservations policy and a long line of people outside, all we could do was hope. Hope that our taxi driver Simon actually knew the famous Ermes and had put in a good word for us. Getting seated in the tiny, crowded dining room was amazing.... More
