Try Aperitivo in a Fresco-decorated Former Chapel

I was looking for a place to have aperitivo before dinner after a day out exploring in Bologna. I was near La Piccola Venezia (Little Venice) and walking towards the university area, passing by several restaurants, trattorias, and bistros but did not find a spot that drew me in. I soon discovered Le Stanze bistro housed in a repurposed chapel at the corner of Via delle Moline and Via del Borgo di S. Pietro. I stepped inside to find a long bar along one wall and bistro tables and chairs along the opposite wall with windows opening up along Via delle Moline. The fading sunlight coming through the windows helped brighten the dimly lit interior. I found a table and took in the old frescoes decorating the walls and ceiling above the bar. A surprise inside

We stopped in this place for an aperitif in the outdoor area which is on a characteristic street in the center of Bologna and we had a glass of Lambrusco for 5 euros and a chinotto for 4. The big surprise was when to go to the bathroom I entered the place which was quite a shock! Paintings on the ceiling, large rooms, almost gothic atmosphere, techno music... totally in contrast to the external environment. I appreciated. Also very friendly staff.

I went to dinner with my girlfriend , apparently nice staff but totally unprepared , the meat we ordered came cold and when asked why it was not hot the answer was that the waiter was unprepared on the question and did not know what to do , the final sentence was “if you want I will warm it up for you” (the meat...). La mise and place absent , they set a minute before bringing things to the table . The noodles very very discreet as taste, I was almost disgusted. Cafoneria! Staff of an unheard-of rudeness and wisdom, questionable cocktails, location in itself "cute" only for the wall but the rest is a simple downtown venue. Amazing drinks and attentive service in a great atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable. Excellent appertivos including chips, nuts, and flatbread with a red sauce. Peroni on tap in peroni pint glassware. The cocktails were also excellent. It is in an old church with a modern atmosphere.

Realy cool atmospheric bar/bistro in an old renaisance chruch. Unique atomsphere at least. On the one hand you cant help feeling cultured and posh, on the other hand it is weard to drink, chill and party in a church. You wonder how the strong catholic italians allowed something like that (very common in the Netherlands and England from my experience but not in the catholic and orthodox mediteranean sphere). Extra cool experience irrespective of what you drink.

This cocktail bar inside a 16th century chapel is without doubt THE best in Bologna. We returned almost every night for a couple of superb vodka martinis before supper. The decor is so amazing, the staff really friendly, and a great sound track in the background. We tried others, but, nothing compared....
