La Montanara never fails to please, with its small but excellent menu, the highlight of which is definitely the Tagliolini alla Cipolla. I have never found this on any other menu in the city and it is fabulous. The sweetness of the onions is divine. Tagliata was good too, accompanied by great vegetables - pasticcio di patate and cicoria piccante.... More

We visited La Montanara when we tried to find a restaurant with charm, and we definetly chose right. The food was great, the wine was tasty and the service was good. One of the waiters also told us how to make one of the dishes that we really enjoyed! Also the dessert was amazing - we had the tiramisu!

While staying in Bologna we asked the hotel concierge for some recommendations for local cuisine. She recommended two restaurants and after checking both out decided on La Montanara. The restaurant is relatively small but has an open front and some outdoor seating. The decor is a combination of antique food signs and old cooking implements hanging from a framewoirk suspended... We were there in January and the restaurant was only open for dinner. Recommended by our B & B. We arrived early so had a drink at a nearby bar, very small, friendly and operated by some nice younger guys - I'm in my 60s. The La Montara was a small restaurant, very good caprese salad, nice wines and a... More

Worth getting off the tourist beat, good traditional home made cooking. Very reasonably priced. Good wine selection and service. Three course meal and wine for tow came to 70 euros

I was there for lunch at 2 pm 25th of April. As they didn't have an empty place inside, they offered me to sit outside. Luckly it was a sunny and warm day. I ordered a plate of local cured meat and cotoletta bolognese. Meats were good and cotoletta bolognese was better than i was tasted in bologna two years... More

Visited this small restaurant for lunch. We where not dissapointed but on the other hand it did'nt rock our world. In my opinion the spaghetti was a bit to "al dente". The rabbit on the other hand was a bit over.. Nice service, good wine as well as espresso. Will we return? Perhaps, I'm not sure.

The atmosphere is intimate and soft in this little restaurant specialised in the traditional cuisine. If you have tried Bologna's cuisine, you know it is anything but "light", however contrary to many places that serve traditional dishes, La Montanara can serve delicious and reasonably light meals. I come from the region and have excellent cooks in my family, but La... More

Small but delightful trattoria close to Bologna's historic center, with a menu firmly rooted in Bolognese tradition but full of original touches. Popular, and rightly so, with tourists, but it also attracts many locals (including me -- I live right across the street). Service is impeccable. Not the cheapest in the neighborhood, but not the most expensive either, and hard... More
