Really authentic in both food and decor. Staff all smiling and enjoying their job. A true Italian experience. Will definitely be back.

Ristorante Maccheroni is only a block from the apartment we rented on a very small back street in Rome, when we spent a long weekend sightseeing there. The menu looked good, but the food and service exceeded our expectations. The pasta and sauces are homemade...and absolutely delicious (we can especially recommend the Gnocchi alla Pere e Gorgonzola, and the Maccheroni all'Amatriciana), and the generous salads are very fresh, served with organic olive oil. Although the restaurant was full, and he was extremely busy, our waiter Christian was notably friendly, very quick, and attentive to our requests.More
We were recommended this restaurant by family members who had visited before. We were impressed with the service and quality of the food. My husband had the fillet steak which was cooked perfectly, and I had the cannelloni which is made in-house. The house wine...was also delicious and over all reasonably priced with no surprises. We would definitely recommend.More
One of the most amazing dinners i had in Rome. Just perfect. Incredible menu, incredible service, gnocchi with gorgonzola and pear were magnigique
I have been checking out the restaurant for over ten years.. Authentic Italian food and dishes. It does not pretend to be a luxury restaurant, but you can eat like an Italian with extremely delicious dishes. Perfect carbonara, salads, excellently cooked meats, perfect salads, delicious...risotto, incredible baked potatoes... Excellent and tireless staff, an Italian tavern atmosphere and a theatrical open kitchen, where you can see everything... Anyone who complains, probably wanted to go somewhere else ..More
A friend of my wife's recommended this place. Glad we acted it on it. We ate very well on our trip to Rome but this place was the best. Waiter was excellent . He made very good recommendations for both food and wine . I...just wanted a typical Roman meal. But it wasn't typical it was superb and still very well priced.More
We had a quite bad experience with the waitress. We could easily excuse her obvious lack of experience in service (like for example multiple errors on the order) but her rudeness was really detrimental to our experience in the restaurant. We tried to be nice...with her as much as we could but she didn't seems to even try to care to give the smallest smile. We wouldn't have left any appreciation here if at least she would have excused herself for the extra 20€ on the bill. But she was just an atrocious person from the beginning to the end meanwhile her colleagues seems to be quite nice. However if you are looking for a good and affordable plate of pastas, the Maccheroni is a very good choice. The other plates don't seems to be a speciality there but the pastas are memorable.More
Recommended by a friend that loved it. We didn’t have the same experience. Overall food was average. Tonnarelli (Spaghetti) carbonara and the saltimbocca alla romana (veal) were good but not as great as at other restaurants during our week in Italy. Cannelloni stuffed with ricotta...and spinach was baked with tomato sauce and cheese and was quite good. Daughter also like her ravioli with cream sauce. Service was poor, actually the server was an *donkey*. First he was irritated when he asked for our drink order and we asked to see the wine list so we could order a bottle. We wanted to share the mixed salad which was actually quite large and good. However he just dropped it on the table and left without giving us a chance to ask for extra plates to share - other Italy restaurants actually offer the extra plates without asking. And at the end of the meal he stated that the service charge is not included, a plain lie in Italy. We were left to figure out that to pay we had to go inside. Lastly the location appears lovely. Many tables are outside. Later this is terrifying, we were nearly hit twice while seated by taxis that insisted to drive down what turns out to be an extremely narrow street. I’d eat inside or at a table by the wall for safety.More
It has to be the worst service and experience we’ve had in Rome. Pasta average and very salty. Waiters are so badly organized, over 1h wait for a dish of salty pasta.
Came here with a group in September and over half of the group couldn’t eat our meal due to how horribly salty it was, then when we brought this up the manager was unbelievably rude. Having now read other reviews, it seems both issues have...happened on a number of occasions before - would definitely recommend going elsewhere, plenty of choice in the area!More
Delicious food with friendly staff. Group of 21, was able to order off the regular menu (try the carbonra!), fast service, reasonably priced.
Came here for business dinner with couple customers. Food was good, service was slow and cashier was really rude. I thought I was the customer who makes the money for the restaurant...maybe he thought he is the money maker...well not with our money...again.
My second visit here with my son and daughter after last dining in 2016. It was absolutely first class with fantastic service and fantastic food. Fettuccine with meat sauce was beautiful as was the spaghetti aglio e olio. Put this one on your list if...you are ever going to Rome.More
A day after my son's wedding the wedding party decided to enjoy the cuisine at this restaurant. Out of a party of +10 at least four of us found our pasta dishes extremely salty, and I mean extremely salty so much so we could not...finish our meals. The waiter was made aware of the issue, he discussed with the proprietor and reduce our bill by the cover charge, circa 20 Euros. This I was not happy with, so I decided to discuss a further reduction and how salty the food was with the proprietor. As my review title implies, he was not even interested in talking to me and very arrogant in his attitude towards me. A good restaurant would want to hear any concerns and rectify any issues, obviously here it is not the case. A customer sometimes can be right, can he not? and just because the restaurant normally receives good review doesn't mean they think they never serve below par food!! I would think twice before booking this restaurant, plenty of others in the vicinity.More
I have eaten here every time I go to Rome. Those who say it is a tourist trap need to realize they are in the center of Rome, Italy. What do you expect? There will be tourists eating there. It was recommended to me by...a native Roman who had to write down the address on a piece of paper because it was not a business that has people pushing their business cards out, It is not like tourist traps you will find below the Spanish Steps where friendly people try to draw you in with promises of discounts and hand you cards. I fell for that once and, while not horrible, the food was not as good as you usually get. It was also very crowded. This place, Maccheroni, has never been crowded. Although there is some variation depending on who is working the day, I have always found the service to be courteous and the food grand. It is off the main drag and can be a bit difficult to find. It is not a fancy place, just good carbonara.More
