Good restaurant, bad service experience for us

We had a quite bad experience with the waitress. We could easily excuse her obvious lack of experience in service (like for example multiple errors on the order) but her rudeness was really detrimental to our experience in the restaurant. We tried to be nice with her as much as we could but she didn't seems to even try to care to give the smallest smile. We wouldn't have left any appreciation here if at least she would have excused herself for the extra 20€ on the bill. But she was just an atrocious person from the beginning to the end meanwhile her colleagues seems to be quite nice. However if you are looking for a good and affordable plate of pastas, the Maccheroni is a very good choice. The other plates don't seems to be a speciality there but the pastas are memorable.

Excellent local restaurant . Kind and accurate service. Varied food and all cooked with fresh raw materials. For those who want to eat something different, the truffle pasta and the arabiata will drive you crazy...... Many thanks to Andreas, very kind and helpful guy!

We were a group of friends, 3 from Rome, 3 from abroad, meeting for dinner. Most of the clientele where we were seated were Italian. Our friends chose the restaurant, although they had never been there previously either. The menu offers food very typical of the Lazio region, at standard prices, with very large portions. All in our party agreed the food was well-prepared and tasty. Service was prompt, pleasant, and efficient.

Very poor service and average food

Upon arrival, we (a group of 6) were put down in the basement. A bottle of tap water was waiting for us. We asked if we could have a different type of pasta rather than macaroni and we got a firm ‘no’ as a response. Every inquiry we made in fact was followed by a rude ‘no’ which we were a little taken aback by. The food was ok, nothing special. We asked for another bottle of water, assuming that the tap water was free. No atmosphere because no other tables in the basement were occupied. When we got the bill, we were charged 4 euro for the two bottles of water, and a subsequent charge for the bread which we didn’t even order! Very disappointing experience in both service and food. We will not be returning. There are much better places nearby!

This restaurant was recommended to a business associate who went and recommended it to me! My family and I had dinner here during our vacation to Rome in January. It is a very popular establishment, and you really need to make reservations as we found out the first time we tried to eat there. We did get in on our second attempt with a reservation, and it was worth the wait. The food is really outstanding, especially if you love pastor. Most of their pasta is made in house, and it was by far the best pasta we ate over many meals in Rome. Big thumbs up from our entire family. Favourites were the carbonara and the gnocchi. Both amazing! The restaurant is busy, and there is a real exciting/energetic vibe which is fun to be immersed in. Mysteriously, it didn’t feel noisy and we had no trouble talking at our table. Servers were attentive, courteous and there at all the right moments. This will definitely be on our return list when we come back to Rome, and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody!

Salty Crunchy Pasta

Was very much looking forward to eating here due to some great reviews however it was really quite disappointing. The maccheroni alla gricia was undercooked to a point that the pasta was crunchy and was also ludicrously salty. The waiters were also so rushed off their feet that service was poor at best- took about 30 mins to even get some wine. Only saving grace was that it was a reasonable price but wouldn't come here again unfortunately.

Over-hyped tourist trap

Would highly recommend avoiding this restaurant and spending your money somewhere else. Very rude management. Ate here with a group of 11 people. 7 of us had pasta (carbonara and gricia). Unfortunately all 7 were extremely salty, to the point where the majority of us could not even eat half our dishes. We explained this to the waiter, who insisted these dishes are salty due to the bacon and cheese within the pasta. Having cooked carbonara many times, I know that the salt from cheese and bacon will not cause food to be as salty as these 7 dishes were, and had likely been caused by the kitchen adding excessive salt. After making a very reasonable complaint to the waiting staff, we were informed the management would remove the service charge from the meal. We felt this really wasn’t enough, as we had all ordered starters, main courses and several bottles of wine (we thought this was also an insult to the waiting staff, as it was the kitchens fault, not the waiters). One of our party spoke with the duty manger, who simply refused to believe our food was salty. He became very rude and animated when we asked if they could reduce the cost of our bill and even started asking other customers in the restaurant if their pasta was “too salty”. Very inappropriate behaviour and embarrassing for the other customers…and himself. Having previously worked in the restaurant industry, I appreciate kitchen’s can sometimes make mistakes and we were just unfortunate to have been at the receiving end, however never once were our comments listened too, or met with an apology from the duty manager. Left here very disappointed with the experience.

Went here on my first night. (Id prebooked a table and I would recommend doing the same) Staff were super friendly and the meal was delicious. Nice setting too if you’re outside. The pasta was perfectly al dente and just delicious!

A day after my son's wedding the wedding party decided to enjoy the cuisine at this restaurant. Out of a party of +10 at least four of us found our pasta dishes extremely salty, and I mean extremely salty so much so we could not finish our meals. The waiter was made aware of the issue, he discussed with the proprietor and reduce our bill by the cover charge, circa 20 Euros. This I was not happy with, so I decided to discuss a further reduction and how salty the food was with the proprietor. As my review title implies, he was not even interested in talking to me and very arrogant in his attitude towards me. A good restaurant would want to hear any concerns and rectify any issues, obviously here it is not the case. A customer sometimes can be right, can he not? and just because the restaurant normally receives good review doesn't mean they think they never serve below par food!! I would think twice before booking this restaurant, plenty of others in the vicinity.

We had an excellent dinner here many years ago. Unfortunately we went back for dinner on the last night of our holiday this time - we all wish we hadn’t We had to wait to be served drinks on arrival. They had run out of mozzarella by 8.30pm (it features in several starters). One pasta dish was brought to the table 5 minutes before the other 3. The food was ok - we’ve had better this trip. It’s clearly a popular restaurant (judging by the queues for tables). However it needs to improve in all areas.

This is a really well located restaurant in a lovely setting about 200 metres Piazza Navona. Our table was located outside which was ideal as the weather was exceptionally warm for October. Service was very good with very friendly staff who were attentive to all diners. Unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing. I chose a chicken dish which was "on the bone" and tasted very bland. My wife had a pasta dish which was very ordinary. Wine list was good with a very broad range.

Recommended by a friend that loved it. We didn’t have the same experience. Overall food was average. Tonnarelli (Spaghetti) carbonara and the saltimbocca alla romana (veal) were good but not as great as at other restaurants during our week in Italy. Cannelloni stuffed with ricotta and spinach was baked with tomato sauce and cheese and was quite good. Daughter also like her ravioli with cream sauce. Service was poor, actually the server was an *donkey*. First he was irritated when he asked for our drink order and we asked to see the wine list so we could order a bottle. We wanted to share the mixed salad which was actually quite large and good. However he just dropped it on the table and left without giving us a chance to ask for extra plates to share - other Italy restaurants actually offer the extra plates without asking. And at the end of the meal he stated that the service charge is not included, a plain lie in Italy. We were left to figure out that to pay we had to go inside. Lastly the location appears lovely. Many tables are outside. Later this is terrifying, we were nearly hit twice while seated by taxis that insisted to drive down what turns out to be an extremely narrow street. I’d eat inside or at a table by the wall for safety.

Amazing Ambiance but So So Service

We wanted to dine alfresco one night while in Rome and was able to secure a table at Ristorante Maccheroni. The ambiance was everything you could hope for, with tables laid out in a small charming carless piazza next door to a different restaurant with the occasional scooter and countless pedestrians wending their way through. We were seated promptly. To start, my sister and I shared the caprese with perfectly ripe and flavorful tomatoes and the creamiest mozzarella. My partner started with the Roman artichoke which was also delicious. He then moved onto a yummy zucchini flower ravioli while I had the classic Roman staple of tonnarelli carbonara. My partner had the grilled Scarmoza cheese, which was different. My sister had a delicious sliced steak. I, however, had to wait a long time between my pasta course and when my veal saltimbocca came out. When I complained to the server about it, he pretty much just shrugged. The veal saltimbocca was also a bit cold but instead of making a fuss about it (and probably having to wait some time for it to come back out), I just ate my dish. Almost all of the dishes were tasty, but there are definitely better restaurants around Rome, though the ambiance seated outside was special.

Romantic!

Very romantic and loved the atmosphere! It was the best food we had in Rome and they had great wine. Our server was amazing and when we asked him about recommendations or history of the area he was happy to help! It looks like reservations are needed during busy seasons or busy times of night and we were glad we made them. The prices were very good too, so if you’re looking for a great date night without breaking the bank it’s perfect.

Lots of smoke and little roast

We came across this place by chance and, intrigued by the apparent welcome, we sat down. Traveling with a 10 month old baby we asked if it was possible to prepare some pasta BROUGHT TO US in simple unsalted water and already the atmosphere has changed... they told us a snubbing yes but that they would cook the pasta in the kettle water ( already salted), okay we just ask for a little sauce to season the dish and wait. Meanwhile for us we order a carbonara, honestly very good, and an amatriciana which is poor for our tastes. The service was poor and careless towards us. The real bitter note is that, contrary to the generosity and hospitality found in all the places we have been to, the waitress (visibly and incomprehensibly, for us, annoyed) rushed to the cash register the moment we went to pay the bill to add the half first course or the baby's pasta. Obviously we find it right to pay for our little girl, but not for a savory pasta, or rather for a spoonful of sauce since we brought the pasta! A place not for children unfortunately!
