Foolishly sat down before consulting TripAdvisor. Poor value for money. The food was not awful - probably below average. Harassed to order several courses. One item 'forgotten' by the kitchen. Staff verging on surly. Excessive cover charge. A 'Tourist Trap'.

Great ambiance! A meal by the fountain overlooking a church. It's a fabulous experience in an amazing city. The food is quite good though on the pricey side. We had a lovely time though noticed that not all guests received the same level of service which was disappointing. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed our meal and watching people in the square.

A friend of mine recommended we try this place when in Rome. It's a little off the beaten path in a largely residential neighborhood, tucked away in a small square with a historic church near the Tiber River. Very friendly staff, with the patriarch, Sylvester, quite a charismatic character. He brings out meat to cut right in front of you.... More

As others have commented this place is very overpriced. Paid 17 Euros for lasagna at lunch plus they added a 15% service charge. To be fair, the lasagna was quite tasty and a good size portion. I believe our bill was about 60 Euros for two lasagnas, two glasses of house wine and a bottle of water.

The portions are ridiculously small, but the prices are very far above the average. The quality of food is just enough. At these prices you better choose the best restaurants of Rome, off the tourist track. Sin!! The beautiful square in Trastevere deserves a more friendly restaurant, where you go to eat and sated !!

My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant. I enjoyed the veal with mozzarella which was very delicious. My wife had a mushroom pasta which she also enjoyed. The restaurant is right on the piazza. We were able to watch the street performers throughout the meal. Overall great experience.

Trastevere is my favorite place in Rome and I love this piazza and restaurant. There are tourists, but fewer than other piazza's, which is fine with me. The staff has always been friendly. Each trip to Italy I have one dish I like to try...this year it was penne all'arribiatta and I can say this had the best. The "new... More

At first we picked this place just to be seated for dinner within Piazza di Santa Maria. After being greeted by our waiter, and took his advice on starters to try while waiting for our main course, we found that we were in for a treat! The ambience proved to be fantastic, with the entertainment going on in the plaza,... More

We asked the taxi to bring us to the area known as Trastevere. A fantastic area with lots of bars and restaurants and young people and a very good vibe. What we did wrong is that we walked to the square and set down. There are so many more restaurants to discover here. We needed to wait 5 minutes and... More

Hot August evening in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. Having heard good things about the restaurant, we chose to dine there in a group of friends. The food was good Roman fare, the wine excellent, and the service good. The prices are not low, but the location in the middle of the piazza is a fair compensation. At the time... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
