We had spent a really long morning at the Forum and Colosseum, so we were pretty famished. Honestly, I think I'd have eaten anything at this point, but I was curious about the Jewish quarter and particularly the artichokes that had been recommended. So I...was really looking forward to the artichokes, but I think they may have been out of season or something. They were really not very good. The service was average to not super great. The food was just okay. I left feeling like maybe we should have tried one of the different restaurants on the block because there were lots of options.More
I see some reviewers were disappointed , but we had a very nice experience. We stayed very nearby so it was convenient Was a cool but not cold eve on the ghetto street. Good food, good service. Some Italian dishes and lamb chops and steak...with chips. Enjoyed the food. Because we enjoyed we also ordered the prepaid Sabbath Friday night meal and ate it with many other guests from around the world. It was a number of courses and generous portions. Only the chicken was dry in my opinion. Others enjoyed it. I was too full already anyways!More
We wanted to go to lunch across the street but, there was a terrible windstorm blowing in so we just walked across the street to BelleCarne Kosher Grill. Big mistake. You wouldn't know it from the outside or the menu. The food was not good....The local people next to us were not happy with their meal either. We had fried artichoke that I was so looking forward to trying but, was like eating broken glass. We split a pasta and a salad. The salad was dry and barely edible. Two glasses of wine. We were charged twice for service at $4.00 per and twice for water @ 2.00 each. Total bill for lunch was $50.50 euro. It was the most expensive lunch we had and the food was from marginal to terrible. I feel like they take advantage of tourists.More
Impulse decision for the three of us to stop by for lunch. Well located on a relatively quiet street, quickly seated, interesting menu, order quickly taken and food delivered to the table. The food was great, portions well sized and all reasonably priced, so we...were pleased with our choice.More
Probably the worst experience - so much so, that I felt the need to come here on TripAdvisor to record it, so other newcomers don’t make the same mistake. I sat outside, excited to try multiple dishes; two starters and two main dishes. It took...about 20 minutes for the waiter to come by the table to take my order. Was he busy? No. He was just chatting with the other waiters. Then I told him I’d order a lot of food, that I’d eat some and the rest I’d take home because my sister in law would be arriving late this evening and I wanted her to have a proper kosher meal where we were staying. He took my order. Soon after, one of the two main courses arrived. I was a bit surprised, because who starts with shnitzel when they ordered starters? So I thought maybe they do things differently in Italy. But I did order from the “Starters” menu. As I continued to eat, no one even bothered to check on me as I was just sitting and waiting for the next dish to come out. When it didnt, I waved to whoever glanced my way, and asked him about my hummus with the meat? He seemed a bit confused not really sure why I wanted it, and then he brought it to the table. The most bland hummus and meat, there was zero onion, just some boiled ground beef. I tasted a bit and then waited for my other “starter” and 2nd main dish to come out. Finally the goulash was brought to the table, it was not surprisingly, cold almost everywhere and then hot in the center. Clearly their microwave doesn’t heat things evenly. Oh and I forgot about the shnitzel, trust me, I’ve had hundreds of shnitzels in my life and this was the worst one; the French fries on the other hand was fried ok. They were definitely from the freezer. Then there was no sign of the italian dry cold cuts they offered and I had ordered as my 2nd starter. But at this point I didn’t even care; 3 for 3, I had totally lost my appetite and did t even care that they had forgotten about it. So I summoned any waiter that would look my way, that I was ready for the check. The check arrived and of course, not surprisingly, it had everything on the bill. Now, normally if I would have had a different experience, I would have let it go, I like to support my tribe as much as possible. But in principle, coupled with the tasteless food and the bad customer service, I asked to have it removed from my bill. And then, as in typical Italian style, I went inside to pay my bill. I’m not sure if it was the owner who was at the cash register who rang my credit card, and asked how everything was. I told him everything and he was the least apologetic; he reacted and his demeanor was as bad as the food tasted and as bad as the service provided. Horrible. So anyway, I paid and walked out, and because I still wanted to find decent food for my sister in law, I decided to try the restaurant next door. Boy am I glad I did. The food is superb, the service was darling, the people cared about their food and their customers and I couldn’t be happier. And to make myself feel better, while I was waiting for the new and improved dinner to be packed home so I could bring it back to my sister in law, anyone who stopped to look at the menu and considered this restaurant, I told them what had happened and one after the other, they got seated, where they undoubtedly had a delicious meal. Moral of the story is, bad food and even worse customer service isn’t kosher. Don’t go and you’ll thank me later. This was the worst kosher food. Horrible. AND service.More
I had pasta with meat (gulash) like spezzatino, and my boyfriend had pasta bolognese. we also order polpette but we got so much food that we had to ”take away” on the meatballs. :-) Staff was extremly kind and the owner was super cool and...very open. We are going there again tomorrow! OBS..... Now its a new owner and its NOT the same. They were rude and very unfriendly. I cant recommend it!More
One of the best meals of my life. Amazing- we don’t keep kosher but I am Jewish- I live in a Jewish area with many good restaurants with this cuisine. Everything here was incredible. Food, service, location.
What can I tell about this restaurant it was WORST service ever I had experienced :(((( The waiter rush us to order and was rude to explaining and finally platter came out and it was not cooked properly. Lamb was chewy and chicken was hard...and dry. Also they put bread on table without us ordering it and blame us that we order it, THE OWNER OR MANAGER of the restaurant started yelling on me about this bread order. Telling me you order it and then waiter came up to my face and yelled on my face saying PAID AND GO All what I was asking is to split they order with my other friends that we all was sitting together in one table I ask two separate check so I can pay for what I order and they said it’s one check making me to pay all for me and my friends. As a woman customer I felt very disappointed and bad that the owner and waiter yelled next my kids on my face:(( No care given. Very disappointing.... The food was tasteless at best bordering on terrible, the service was unpleasant and rushed. There are many other options for a good kosher, meat meal in Rome.. Not worth it for an $138 euro meal. You'll only be disappointed. never coming again. Hope my experience with this place will help other customers to choose right place before they choose this place…More
the food here is delicious and the portions sizable for what you pay. The waiter staff is knowledgeable and patient, and they do not rush you through your meal.
There's something wrong with the service culture at this restaurant; there are multiple servers around, but somehow you still get neglected, and when they come around, they act bored or annoyed. Part of the problem is they don't assign designated servers, so no one takes...responsibility for your table. It seemed to come down to who randomly decided to show up at our table or who we could flag down. There were occasional gestures of helpfulness by a few individuals but these were far outweighed by the many moments of being ignored or treated with mild contempt. By the end of the meal the staff were totally blowing us off and it took multiple interactions over 40 minutes to pay our check: ask for check. Delay. Bring wrong check, take it away, don't return. Attempt to flag down someone and have him literally look through me and not respond when I know he saw me. Catch someone else who agrees to bring the bill but doesn't. A different person finally brings the bill. When we pull out our credit card, they tell us not very graciously that we have to go inside to process the payment ourselves (at a 'decent' restaurant of this size I've never heard of such a thing). At this point we were just desperate to get out of there and feeling we'd been treated shabbily and wasted too much of our precious time in Rome on a bad experience. The food was ok - our fried jewish artichokes were ok if a bit bland; my couscous with vegetables and tomato sauce was at least fresh tasting but not exciting in terms of seasonings or variety of vegetables, and my mother's pasta with artichokes, lemon and cod lacked brightness (she left 2/3 on her plate which is very unusual for her). If I were rating purely on the food would give 2 to 2.5 stars but the service was so poor the overall experience was very negative. Cannot recommendMore
i do not like leaving these reviews at all, i always am able to find a good thing or two but this time just no, we were seated after standing there a while and no one was there but us. we waited about 20 minutes...for someone to decide to get drink order and then waited again to get 2 bottles of still water. finally wavved someone down to take order and the fun started. i waited 35 minutes on a bowl of the worst chicken soup i have ever had in my life and i am 54 years old no amount of salt helped and i told them i could not eat it. all of our food came out at odd times and no one of our party was eating at the same time the whole meal. we wanted more water and I had to chase them down to order and the attitude was the nastiest i have ever come across. we felt like we were the worst people in the world for wanting to eat there. the waiters were busy standing out front smiling and flexing for ladies walking by and we had to ask for ours 5 times and he got angry we interrupted him talking to a girl. note I still paid for the soup at 15 euros even though I took 3 sips out of it.... afterwards we went to another restaurant not in the quarter and had an amazing meal. and I am the easiest to satisfy i really am, I never send food back I just eat it... but not this time.More
If it wan't for my wife, I would have got up and left after 5 minutes. She doesn't like hassle, so I endured it. We looked at a couple of menus and as they all looked similar, we picked this one. Immediately there was an...argument between the hostess/owner and a young guy who was in charge. It felt like they were arguing over who had to serve us ( Talk about feeling welcome) The lady pointed out a nice table which had just been vacated but needed to be reset. the manager tried to get us to another table but the sidewalk was pretty slanted there so I indicated I preferred to wait for the table to be reset. Once we sat down he came back and put 4 menu's in front of my son-in-law and walked off, instead of handing us each our own menu like the other waiters did. The he turned his back to us and went on his telephone. After a couple of minutes I called him and asked if his restaurant served drinks by any chance ( because nobody had asked anything) His reply was; well we don't have everything so tell me what you want and I will tell you if we have it, Luckily they had some beer soft and wine I must say the food came out quick and was pretty good. Good pasta, a good steak and my battered lambchops were very interestingly prepared. But the aloof air of the manager will not let me return thereMore
We ate lunch here on our first day in Rome, as I had been wanting to try a Jerusalem artichoke. There are lots of restaurants on this street, and without checking them out online first, we took a chance. I have to say I am...shocked by some of the reviews of the restaurant, and had we read them first we wouldn’t have eaten here. As it happens I’m glad we didn’t do any research, because our experience was very good. Our waiter was friendly and well informed. My artichoke was crisp, salty and tasty. We shared the salads, dips and pitta breads, and then my husband ate the offal with artichoke. Not something I would choose, but he said it was really tasty. We opted for a bottle of Israeli white wine, which was really quite good. I would say don’t let the bad reviews put you off. Go there and make your own mind up, you just might like it!More
I visited the restaurant at 07.03.22, with my wife for dinner, we ordered an Asado, the food came after 50 minutes of waiting. As I’m looking in my plate, I saw that there is no meat at all, only a big 11 inch bone. I...called the waiter and he called the manager, the manager was very rude, took our plates, stated screaming in the restaurant and insulted us in front all the people who been there. I told him again and again that I don’t want another portion, I just want to pay and leave this terrible place, he yelled at me loudly. My wife started crying, and we left the restaurant. The manager followed us to the entrance and kept screaming on the street, catched me by the hand and almost attacked me. I was in shock, I never ever felt or been treated like this before. I hope no one will eat in this terrible place. Don’t go there, better eat at other places.More
