Delicious gelato! Rumored to be the Pope's favorite gelato place. One of us had the black Number 9, which is very dark chocolate. Wonderful flavor! I had stracciatella with Hedera "Top Secret". It was incredibly creamy and delicious. Perfect for after dinner or during the day.

We discovered Hedera five years ago when we visited Rome during Easter. it is round the corner from the Vatican. The ice-cream is so nice that we keep on going back each time we are in Rome. The owner and his father are always very pleasant and welcoming.

We visited Hedera late in the afternoon looking for something savoury to eat. The owner made us delicious pancakes with savoury fillings, so much so the customer after us also opted to have the same. We then had 2 superb desserts and coffee which were excellent. We were so impressed with the standards of service and attention to detail we... More

I've had a lot of gelato in Italy, and this is the best! I highly recommend the chocolate! It's pure chocolate!!! Or if you want something less sweet the vanilla-lemon is also soooo good! And to top it off, the loveliest old man is at the gelateria counter. Great vibe. The customers around me were also so happy chatting with... More

The most incredible gelato in Rome - I have spent the whole semester in Italy and this is bar none the best. Not only is the gelato creamy with artisanal flavors, the staff is charming. My family came to visit in Rome and we returned several times as my sister had taken a liking to it. During our stay, we... More

I was feeling like eating ice cream inmediately after lunch and my friends agreed to accompany me. I chose this place because a free walking tour guide reccomended it. It was really cold so we sat inside the place with one big cup of ice cream. Suddenly, someone, who seemed like the owner, told us that we four could't be... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
