Probably the problem was that I went to Rome after some weeks in Sicily, where I had the opportunity to taste the best granitas of my life, but this grattachecca did not generate any enthusiasm in me. For sure it's nice to try once a roman tradition of this hand-scratched block of ice, and the atmosphere along Tevere river helps,... More

Got lucky with no line. Heard on the Rick Steves walking tour for Trastavere that this little kiosk was the most famous. The shaved ice was quite refreshing in this heat!

The line is impossible, but do wait. A Roman tradition since the dawn of time. Much much more than a snowcone... try the mixed berries and don't forget the coconut pieces!

For tourists, try this once (see earlier review). Romans adore this place. For some of us, we are hoping for more innovation. On my last order I did not get the fresh lemon juice that they used in the past, although this has been their practice. That means that my whole order was dyed syrups from a bottle; one of... More

It basically shaved ice with added flavored syrups. At first you think it will be tasteless but it is very refreshing after a day walking around Rome.

Rome is usually so hot in the summer. A sweet or tangy grattachecca is just the thing to cool you down. I heard about this kiosk on Rick Steve's Trastevere audio guide and it was a pleasant break from the sun to have pineapple & orange iced drinks. The kiosk is at the Trastevere end of Pons Cestius, the bridge... More

Basically just shaved ice with fruit flavoured syrup, but it's yum and super refreshing in summer! 2€ or 4€ with fruit and 6€ with alcohol (shaved ice cocktail!). Nice location on the river, you can actually find quite a few of these stands.

I read about this place in the Luxe Guides and it was so hot we decided to catch a taxi there to check it out - TOTALLY WORTH IT! They are all made by hand by a gorgeous mother-son duo and there are so many flavours to pick from - I opted for the "Super Frutta" which came packed full... More

I went it by accident. But when I saw all this local people queing for it, I went to. 2€ for a classic one, 3 or 4€ with extra fruits on the top. Cheap and good (and homemade as you can see them scratching the ice). Of course you have to like it.. if you do not like Grattachecca this... More
