Go here if you love pastry and are anywhere near this part of Rome. It seems to be an institution. We came here twice and were left in a sugar dessert coma from the Bumbas, Sfogliatelle and various other pastries. There are so many to...choose from. And it's incredible value with most pastries 1 euro or thereaboutsMore

Located at few steps from Ottaviano metro station and not too far from Vatican City and the Ottaviano Metro Stop, It is in a basement and the you have to go down through a couple of flights of stairs, which can be dangerously slippery. The...counter is really very high and it is difficult for the the ladies working there to take the money from customers and pass them (almost throwing over the counter) the paper bags with the purchased goods. The shop is extremely small and there is not a seating area, this is just a ‘eat-on-the-spot’ and take away, There is alway a line of people awaiting outside, mostly young tourists. We bough two cannolis, a Neapolitan 'sfogliatella', croissants and slices of tomato sauce pizza. We did not like anything, cannolis and the sfogliatella were stale. The quality was subpar and taste was indefinite and unpleasant. We did not finish it. We really cannot understand the many reviews and such great popularity. The service was unfriendly and rude, they do not use gloves, and food was RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP! Yes, it is very cheap and that explains everything: people, backpackers and tourists are attracted because they can pay only one third of the prices of other ‘average’ bakeries in Rome. You pay what you get! We will not go back. Never. .More

Want is not to love about a bakery that is open 24 hours a day. The doughnuts were excellent and cheap. Great place to get pastries.

I first heard about this bakery two years ago when I was studying in Rome at a campus just a few blocks away in the Prati neighborhood. Intrigued by a bakery open 24 hours a day, my friends and I went late one evening. The...basement aspect was interesting and the large case of pastries looked appealing. I honestly can’t even remember what I got, but whatever I had must’ve been fine. Fast forward two years to last week. I was visiting Rome again with my family. In need to a birthday cake for one of our Roman friends on a Saunday afternoon, there were few open bakeries at the time. Remembering this 24 hour bakery, my sisters and I made our way to Dolce Maniera. Again, everything looked and smelt beautiful. We ordered a chocolate cake with ricotta filling out of the cake case to go. We also ordered a connolo, some sort of chocolate fudge ball covered in sprinkles, and a slice of the chocolate chip cream log cake to eat at the little table in the bakery. We were all so surprised by how poor not one, but all three of our pastries tasted! All three pastries were absolutely flavorless. The chocolate fudge ball crumbled when you took a bite, suggesting it could have been made a week prior. The cannolo cream tasted like crisco. Not only were we disappointed by our three pastries, but we were so nervous about that birthday cake we planned on sharing with friends. The cake turned out to be just okay, with the ricotta cream not tasting like much. The chocolate was pretty good so that helped. Luckily not as bad and old-tasting as the pastries! Sadly, it was a bad experience and I can’t recommend this place to friends.More

My husband and I were walking a block away when the delicious bakery smell hit our noses. Without saying a word to each other, we took a turn in the opposite direction from where we were staying and followed the incredible smell. Within a minute...we were peering down the stairs into a beautiful display case of pastries and cakes. Incredibly fresh, terrific prices and great service!More

So I first step foot into Dolce Maniera 4 years ago whilst on a long weekend in Rome. This time I was backpacking around Italy and found myself around the Vatican early on a Friday morning once again only a few feet away from the...familiar sign of Dolce Maniera. Having remembered visiting last time and getting a lovely inexpensive breakfast I decided to pop in and grab something to eat. Once again I was presented with a vast array of pastries, cakes and a number of smiling faces. This time I opted for a pistachio star shaped pastry of which I believe was a local speciality. The pastry was buttery and flaky and the filling was to die for along with a cappuccino, all for the grand total of €1.70...absolute win! Definitely worth a stop by, it is just next to the Ottaviano metro stop near the Vatican!More

this pastry place is the cutest hole-in-the wall pastry place I have been to so far living in Italy! They are super inexpensive (0,20€-1,00€ a pastry!!!) and even more fresh!!! They have a huge assortment of pastries, cookies, doughnuts and even cakes! My favorite was...the pear chocolate pastry and my boyfriend loved the sugar doughnuts! We stopped by every morning we visited Rome! You must try this place!More

Arrived in Rome on a rainy evening and we were too tired to head out to a restaurant. This basement bakery is just down the street from our B&B and we decided to take a chance that we would find something to tide us over...until breakfast. We were wonderfully surprised when we found mushroom foccacia, artichoke foccacia and a mind numbing selection of sweets for dessert, of which we chose two. The food was delicious ( the pain du chocolat was hands down the best I’ve ever had anywhere ) and the total bill of less than 7€ was another wonderful surprise!More

You can't eat inside. It's literally just a place where you pick up yummy food and you have to go elsewhere to eat it. But trust me, it's worth standing on the sidewalk to eat their food!! The bakery is located at Via Barletta 27...near the Vatican Museum. It's literally a straight shot - an 8' walk heading towards St. Peter's subway stop (called Ottaviano). It is down stairs and worth finding. The pastries are delicious and very inexpensive. Don't miss this treat when in Rome.More

This bakery was right below our hotel. Excellent fresh pastries and tiramisu. Didn't have any of the cakes, but they had several decorated cakes that looked amazing. They never close so you can get your carbs at any time.

We finally found this shop on our last evening in Rome which is probably a good thing as I may have gone home a lot heavier than I came! It was recommended by the guest house owners so I put it on my list of...places to try. The cake that I had was two shortbread rings stuck together with Nutella. It was delicious. My husband had a chocolate brownie that he also enjoyed. I wished we had got room in the case as it's open 24 hours so we could have popped in on the way to the airport the next morning.More
