In a street with other attractive dining options, my initial mistake was to choose this place. What followed were series of disappointments; initially for being seated inside despite available seating outside. Next, my lunch took forever to serve, (not in a hurry) but the table next to me, seated after I arrived was finished with their meal before mine even... More

Were in the Quarter looking for a small neighborhood place. Food was good -- bruschetta excellent, great insalata mista (I'd suggest the medium -- it was quite large) and the strecchini with artichokes was fine. Service a little slow but when it came time for siesta and we were done with our meal, we just stayed… no problem at all... More

After long trip we stop here. We order some pasta and pizza, pizza was not good. In Rome you can find better pizza. Pasta small portion. Angry staff.

Absolutely disappointing experience. I have given a try for the third time. This is a typical restaurant who lives with the glory of past days and the name of Giggetto 1, which is also horrible. Dishes are poor on every aspect. Pasta is overcooked and very low quality, amatriciana sauce was inconsistent. Artichokes hard and soaked in oil. Fried artichokes... More

Our tour guide recommended Giggetto to us b/c we wanted to walk across the bridge into Travestere after lunch & it was very close to the area. The small front is a facade for a very large restaurant--and the service and food was amazing. The artichokes (we ordered both kinds!) were fabulous! Our waiter was fun with a great sense... More

We were recommended this place in our guide book. It is hidden out of the main hustle and bustle but this added to its charm. The service was good, staff were friendly and propmt. The food was delicious, although you had to pay extra for vegetables or salad if wanted which was a bit dear. I had the spaghetti with... More

I was desperate for a salad....had a nice large bowl of very fresh salad (add your own olive oil & vinegar) ordered both versions of artichokes which were very tasty!

Simple cafe style food. Yes lots of the dishes are marked on the menu as being frozen, including the pizza bases. However, my ham and artichoke pizza was fine. I watched as the cook sliced the cured ham which covered the top of the pizza entirely. Pasta dishes are small. Wine was good and not expensive. As a quick stop... More

This is a really nice little trattoria that we found one afternoon. The food all seems homemade and is very nice (we had a variety of antipasti as a light lunch and it was all very good), the service is friendly, and it is quite reasonable. When you come out, you walk down an alleyway to find an old ruined... More

Staying in Ghetto

Neighborhood Profile
The mini-neigborhood Ghetto holds tight to its reputation as a stand-alone area thanks to its nearly 300-year history as the home to Rome’s Jewish community. Times changed in the 20th century, but the tiny area still retains its mix of tradition, community, and history. Ancient and medieval architectural design frames apartments, bakeries, shops, and restaurants. Friends and families are the pulse of the neighborhood, keeping company on the Via del Portico d’Ottavia. The Ghetto observes the traditional Jewish Shabbat: businesses close from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
