My friend and I took a $20 cab to this place that was well reviewed. I usually like to eat in non touristy places. We arrived without a reservation but nowhere on their sight did it require reservations. When we arrived the place only had...3 out of 25 occupied. They asked if we had reservations, we said no and that we had not seen we needed and they said NO. I told them we had taken a 30 minute cab ride and the waiter went in and asked “who I assumed was the owner” he saw us and said no. It is a shame that in this day and age you are not allowed into an establishment because of your color, ethnicity or perhaps we were 2 women 🤷🏽‍♀️ It was their loss. I found a close by restaurant that was packed but we were able to sit and have a fabulous dinner.More

This restaurant came highly recommended. The decor was high-end with lots of covers, the menu was extensive and the food was delicious. Definitely a place to put on your bucket list if you like traditional Italian food.

Our first night in Rome, we were excited to go to an "authentic Roman trattoria." I always seek out places off the tourist path.. We felt unwelcome from the moment we walked in (though we had reservations). No greeting when waiter came to our table....When our order was taken, we chose the type of pastas we wanted, but were told our choices were "not possible," so we ordered what the waiter said was possible; however, he also failed to take down our order correctly. One of us ordered cacio e pepe, but it came out as another carbonara. (Frankly, the ravioli that was ordered also tasted like carbonara). We then had to flag down the waiter (who never came to check up on us after the initial food delivery) to ask about our vegetable side dishes. Well, we were told those "come out last"? Side dishes after the meal ...OK..We've been eating in multiple Italian cities for the past week, greeted by cheerful, helpful people and eating delightful meals. This is our first bad experience- both food quality and service. It seems that "Authentic Roman” has a meaning different from what I thought.More

I had heard about Da Cesare from several food writers and blogs. The first time I tried to visit it was fully booked. When I arrived there I was surprised by how basic and spare it was, especially the covered terrace. But the welcome was...warm, from both the owner and waiters. Service was variable: being on the terrace was perhaps a disadvantage, and as the restaurant filled up it became slower such that in the end I had to fetch my own bill. The menu offers an excellent selection of Roman “fritti” of which the fior di zucca were the most delicious. But after those we were pretty full up! I opted for pasta with top notch oxtail sauce. Dinner was excellent value at 45 euro a head including a bottle of decent wine. There were more foreign tourists / residents than I expected but a fair number of locals, including students. Overall I’d recommend if you’re in the area, maybe not for a date or special occasion because of the sparse surroundings.More

Great food and ambiance. Our group raved about the baccala and the ravioli. The millefoglie was heavenly. A taxi ride up to the Gianicolo but worth it. Not a tourist place at all. In fact we were the only ones there. A busy happening place. About...$45. For a nice dinner with wine. Reserve ahead.More

Perfection — food was excellent, the staff was very kind. Even though it was far from our hotel, it was worth going there.

I ate carbonara pasta and Spezzatino di vitello alla cacciatora, they were very good. I recommend this restaurant, the food is very tasty. And for dessert I tried I Cesarotti and it was delicious.

Good and authentic food for fair prices, rating for quality/taste would be 4,5 of 5. Not all dishes (group of 5) came in hot, and not at same time. Service became slower when restaurant filled up. Good variety of wines, yet highly priced compared to...other locations nearby. When terrace is well booked, sometimes a bit noisy. Reservation recommended.More

The food was fantastic, true Roman dishes cooked to perfection. A great walk to the restaurant in a suburb of Rome. We selected the specials which were lovely and the desert - their selection of homemade dolce were amazing. Definitely one to go back to,...thank you.More

We arrived on a Saturday night, and the place wasn't too busy. The food was fantastic: Their fried appetizers included original, crunchy twists on meatballs (with braised filling) and arancini. The restaurant is known for pastas, so we had the gricia and carbonara. Excellent wines...by the glass. So far, so good. . . . Then the place filled up with locals, and the staff abandoned us. Despite our best attempts, we waited an hour for the check, with at least four local couples getting theirs before us. A disappointing end to what would have been an outstanding meal.More

I kind of hate to write this review because the restaurant is so good! I would rather have it stay as a hidden gem in Rome. We took a 15-20 minute taxi from our hotel at Campo de Fiori to da Cesare. The restaurant is...on a side street. We were the only tourists in the restaurant. Everyone else were either local families or friends. We had flora di zucchini, suppli up front, then we had gricia tonnella , matriciana tonnella, roasted peppers with a bottle of Malvasia wine. A perfect meal and perfect service. The restaurant called a taxi to take us back to our hotel.More

Neighborhood restaurant, without too many aesthetic pretensions, but where you can taste the best traditional Roman cuisine. The menu includes all the traditional specialties cooked and presented to art. We had "fried zucchini flowers" and " parmigiana" as starters. Both excellent. Excellent also the main...course. "Bollito picchiapo" and “baccala alla romana”. The wine recommended by the sommelier was reasonably priced and paired nicely with our dishes. Service was friendly and efficient.More

Great dinner. Owner/ host was a total gentleman, food was both well done and presented, hostess had great food and wine recommendations. Off the beaten path, locals place and not a tourist place (at least when we went, caveat during Covid...)

Just the best restaurant we’ve found in Rome. We were there 4 times and we enjoyed it so much! Wonderful location (very quiet place), very tasty local food, professional service. Still dreaming about their ravioli with salmon! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
