Gourmet and foodie walking tours usually include this bakery on their itinerary but it’s easy enough to find on your own. It’s centrally located in the popular Campo Di Fiori piazza, right next to Le Carbonara restaurant.
I go here often, mainly for the crispy,...warm pizza slices, which seem to be continually coming fresh out of the oven. Recently I tried the potato slice which was OK but I prefer the zucchini tower with anchovies. Mostly I use choose whichever one I’ve just seen coming out of the oven.
The pizza is in a slab, rather than circular so you need to let them know how much you want and they will cut off 1/4 or 1/2 for you and then you pay at the register in the front corner of the shop, not where you order.
Expect to see a queue but even when the line is long and the shop looks full, it still moves quickly.
It’s worth noting that the bakery is split between two shopfronts, with a small lane in the middle. You can go to either but the hot pizza is best from the shop on the right and the one on the left seems to have more sandwiches and panini. Both have sweet pastries.
I prefer to go in the morning because there’s a large flower and farmers’ market in the piazza. In any case, like many Italian shops, the bakery closes in the middle of the day between 2:30 – 4:40pm. It stays open until 7:30pm but is closed all day on Sundays.
The only problem is that there’s nowhere to sit easily with your food in the piazza. There is no seating at the bakery so we have sometimes perched around the edge of the fountain and at other times, around the base of the Giordano Bruno statue but both spots are in the sun.More
