The service is really friendly here, first time in Rome when we felt real hospitality. On the walls you can write your name and see who was there before.
I got a romestyle pizza vegetaria, my friend spaghetti with clams (not big portions, but delicious), at the end I got a tiramisu for free and of course I recommend the house wine, which you get for just 6 euro.

Really great place, we come in for a snack and leave stuffed. Started a game where we try to guess when all the extras and trimmings will stop coming, safe to say, nobody knows.
Very inexpensive for what you get and the bread, unlike in most restaurants we tried, isn't dry and chewy at the end of the day.
Some local priests turned up after mass on a Sunday to eat while we were here so I can't imagine it's not authentic.

We went there for the second time and it was as good as the first time. We came on a Friday night at about 7pm and we were the only guests in the restaurant but during our dinner people came by and filled the the restaurant. As a traditional compliment we got croquettes and bruscetas with tomatoes and garlic. The food was really delicious, our waiter asked if we would like to order a second bottle of wine, we rejected but he still got us another one on the house. We ordered crème brûlée for a dessert and a cup of espresso, althouth it was not really the best in town but we got free shots of limoncello, so it was a pleasant ending of the dinner. A bottle of wine, water, carpaccio and two portions of lasagna cost us 42€. The one thing people should be aware of going here is that the payments are accepted only by cash. In case of no cash (as we had) you can find the nearest ATM just a few minutes away. Love this place and definitely going to visit it again next time.

This was quite a bizarre experience. The restaurant is brightly lit with no feeling of intimacy, the decor on the walls consists of graffiti messages, scribbles and drawings in different colour pens from customers also with various banknotes & coins stuck on the walls with sellotape...at first it may appear quirky & bohemian but on closer inspection it’s actually just a mess.
The owner appears to be a very brash, unkempt and forceful character who quickly served us with complimentary brochette and deep fried rice balls. He took our order and then shouted the orders at the timid young Asian waiter who scurried around looking petrified to put a foot wrong, this made us feel very uncomfortable and we felt sorry for the lad. The starter I ordered never arrived but my wife’s Caprese salad could have fed three tables there was so much of it! It was strangely served on a bed of lettuce though with no basil in sight which also made it a bit odd. She also had a couple of glasses of wine filled to the brim!! Credit where it’s due this was the most generous measure of wine we have ever seen! The food wasn’t up to much and afterwards we were given a bottle of Limoncello and two glasses and left to decide how much we wanted!
When we came to pay the waiter told us it was cash only & they didn’t take a card, we didn’t have any cash and I then pointed out that I could see a card machine on a shelf behind the counter only to be informed it was ‘broken’. The owner was sat nearby and didn’t react as he was busy eating a carrot. When the waiter nervously told him we didn’t have any cash the machine miraculously became fixed and we were able to use our MasterCard after all!
We would never go back here for these reasons, the decor and atmosphere is weird, the food is average at best, the owner is a misery who speaks harshly to his staff like they are his personal servants and he has clearly trained them to lie about not having a working card machine. If you walk a few metres down the road on the left there is an amazing authentic HONEST restaurant serving ‘home cooked’ delicious Roman food with no cover charges (see my other reviews). Go there instead!

First of all, the bread for starters tasted old and was completely dry. We had one bite of it and no more because it was that horrible. Secondly, the pizza was not made freshly at all but rather defrosted and heated up in the oven with way too much yacky cheese. Also the pizza dough reminded us of a frozen pizza and was not fluffy whatsoever. We had one bite of the main dish only and kindly told the waiter that it doesn’t taste the „italian way“ and how one should expect it. Thus, we suggested to pay for the drinks only, however as soon as the chef made his way up to us he persisted that we have to pay the whole price for the drinks as well as the food. We rejected to do so and suddenly the situation escalated as the he started to yell at us and picked the pizza from the plate to demonstrated in front of us and all the guests that the pizza is apparently made freshly. Even though we paid the full price (including the untasty pizza) the chef was still furious and shouted “f**k off“ to us, in front of everyone else. We still can’t believe that this happened to us! This place is definitely the worst restaurant in rome and we cannot emphasis more that this place is NOT worth any cent at all. Instead, go check out the place next to it called „restaurants pizzeria il nipotino del solitario“, which is a much better restaurant with freshly made italian food and a lovely and kind waiter.

10 years ago my husband and I came here on our honeymoon. While in Rome for 5 days we came here every day. I’ve recommended this place to anyone coming to Rome while stifling my envy.
We now live in Sicily and have finally had the chance to come back with our daughters and it’s still the same wonderful place/experience with the same owner (who regardless of heritage makes wonderful Italian food! ...and you know it’s good because the locals frequent this restaurant)!!
I will continue to recommend this quaint, great food, great value place to anyone who will listen and will return whenever the opportunity arises.

Actually I was there in July 2019 and meant to write a review months ago. I had a fantastic meal and was treated to wonderful and kind service. I had to wait about 20 minutes for a table as it’s a popular place. The owner was very apologetic about my having to wait. My last night in Italy and I only had 10 euros cash and hadn’t realized that the restaurant didn’t take credit cards. I communicated this to the owner but he nevertheless kindly insisted on giving me a delicious 3 course meal. And even included a glass of wine!

1. Food tasted ok. I ordered seafood spaghetti. Clams were ok but squid was bad. Tasteless squid that is close to rotting. I also ordered fried seafood. Only 1 prawn and plenty of tasteless squid, cost EUR13, again the deep fried squid was tasteless. It is probably frozen for a long time.
2. There is only 1 order taker and seems she could not cope. Poor order management. The guest seating next to us arrived after us but has his order taken and food served before us. We were seated 20 mins before our order was taken. Not a nice experience.
Another group came after us, seated for 15 mins, not one serve them and they left. (Lucky group as we should have done the same).
3. Reviews from other guest said they had complimentary stuff that we were not offer or received.
4. Price wise, it was rated $ in trip advisor, but it is probably $$. I had a much much better meal at Sorrento, which cost the same. Sorrento is not a cheap place.
5. We regretted dining here and would never come again. So so to bad food at $$.

We went here on our first night in Rome. The service was amazing and the food was the tastiest we had in our time in Rome(we are on day 4). We ate at much more “expensive” restaurants and the food quality was not near the quality and taste of this place. Credit to the chefs.
Food
A must if you are looking for quality Italian cuisine. Carbonara/lasagne/bruschetta/tiramisu/pizza/Rose wine all 10/10. Fresh, tasty and full of flavour.
Service
Miah the waiter is brilliant and made us feel so welcome. He was professional but personal at the same time, a skill that takes years to perfect. He is a credit to the restaurant.

The great taste of Roman dishes and a cheerful family atmosphere. The friendly chef Omar comes out to talk to his clients, seems like he knows everyone. He makes sure I am happy and is attentive to my requests. The dishes are delicious and the experience is warm and welcoming. Don't miss out on the heavenly tiramisù. Highly recommended! I will return with some friends.

In general, the full experience was okay. Pizza Margherita was good.
Lasagne could use some more salt. Tiramisu was not the best. We ordered bottle of wine but it was served in pitcher. So it was hard to understand how much wine we actually received.
2 people from the staff were constantly looking at guests and a bit too actively cleaning away empty plates, bread etc. I felt that there wanted to get rid of the guestes asap.
Biggest disappointment was that on the bill, they added extra 10€ for "coperti". I asked what it means and they said that it was supposed to be for the overall service. Doesn't make any sense that I have to pay for the food and for the waitress and chef's service :D
Must be noted that the provided extra starter snacks and limoncello shots for free.

The restaurant was the best value we had in Rome: it's simple and the seafood pasta is really good. But what called our attention was how the owner took care of us: we got bread, arancini and tiramisu for free and loved the cozy local atmosphere. Please do not order the house wine.

Such a funny little restaurant. So traditional and such good value. We went back a second time. Real Italian food, not like the store bought pasta from a jar we got at some of the fancy touristy places

In my 3/4 century of life my experience at The Golden Fork was absolutely the worst. My first visit there was wonderful, but my second wll be my last ever. I wlked in and asked (in Italian) to speak to the owner; my Italian wasn't perfect, but.. he walked into the kitchen and I waited patiently, standing, for him to come out. I realized that it was lunchtime and, although the place wasn't filled, I waited patiently. I only wanted to speak to him about bringing a group of 25 Americans for a full dinner next month (a group that would not order just a primo or secondo, but order more than 30 Euros each and leave an American-size tip.)
A waiter offered me a seat, and I said no, but he insisted, so I sat down. When the owner came and asked if I wanted to order anything, I said no, but there were some patrons demanding service. At that point Sig. Omar started yelling at me that if I didn't want to order anything, I should get out. I can't just sit around there. They have work to do. I walked out and will never set foot in there again. (If you want better treatment I suggest you go to the nearby Caritas soup kitchen; we treat the people like human beings not dogs.)

If you're looking for local Roma food, this is the place visited by many tourists. None pretentious place with fresh food. May be turned off by the very old looking restaurant but the price is great for 1 spaghetti vongole, octopus salad, a carafe of wine for 2 pax for €25.
