I met my mother and my sister in Italy in October. We got off our respective planes, put our stuff down in our room and headed out to get some lunch. We were both exhausted and seriously hungry. Yotvata is not on the main street of the Ghetto, but a few minutes' walk from there. When we arrived, the restaurant was mostly empty. Our server, Nino, a real character, realized that we could not order for ourselves because we were too hungry and tired. He just brought out for us whatever he thought we'd enjoy. And boy did we enjoy! We started with a mild cappuccino. Then he brought out the mozzarella cheese balls. Wow! Those were amazing and put all the other dishes that I have had like that in my life to shame. He served us the famous Roman fried artichoke dish that they serve in basically every restaurant in Rome. Theirs was the best one we tried- not oily and perfectly salted. Then he brought us a cod dish which was delicious and light- flavored and fresh. He gave us a fettuccine alfredo which was so good, I'd go back to Rome just to eat that again. I didn't know this before, but, I have learned that homemade pasta in Italy is so lovingly made, so painstakingly prepared, you feel like the chef named each strand of pasta as he rolled it out. You can really taste the difference in every single bite. For the record, the cheeses they use at Yotvata are also homemade by the owner of the restaurant. Nino brought us a grilled salmon which was very good, but, lacked the transcendence which we experienced in the other dishes. Then we needed another cappuccino to perk us up. Nino kept coming to the table to make sure we were ok. He learned my mother's name and kept calling to her say hello. It felt like we were visiting at a cousin's house and he just kept bringing out more and more delicious food. This was not an inexpensive meal, mind you, but, it was without a doubt the most enjoyable one we had in our 10 days of sojourning around Italy. Go and try it, you won't be disappointed! Tell Nino we say "ciao!"

After a long day of intercontinental travel including a delayed flight, my wife and I headed to Yotvata for our first meal in Rome.
We started with an order of 2 rice balls and an assorted cheese platter. The rice balls were crispy on the outside with rice, tomato sauce, and mozzarella inside. The cheese platter had 5 cheeses, my favorites of which were the bastardo del grappa and the pecorino.
For the pasta course we each ordered a homemade pasta. She had gnocchi with fontina sauce that I can best describe as marshmallow fondue, and I mean that in the best way possible. The gnocchi were incredible. I had homemade fettuccini with pecorino and black pepper sauce. It was a touch on the salty side but otgerwise outstanding. The flavors really exploded.
We shared a dessert but couldn't finish it from being so full.
We will likely not be back at Yotvata this trip, but only because there are so many more places to try. We'll be back here on future trips for sure!

My daughter and I visited Rome last week. Our hotel had sent a driver to pick us up from the airport: very friendly, very helpful and a Roman born and bred, he suggested we visit Yotvata to get a proper decent meal. Well, we did, and ended up going back to eat there three nights in a row. It was fantastic.
The food was amazing, the staff so genuinely nice and the location perfect – just a lovely ten-minute walk from The Pantheon. On the edge of the ghetto, the restaurant serves a mix of Jewish and non-Jewish clientele with a menu that could best be described as pescatarian and wholly Kosher. Don’t be afraid to ask the waiter for what he suggests is recommended: my first night I had cod cooked in a tomato and onion sauce, the second I had sea bass pasta with a spicy tomato sauce, and the third a courgette-based carbonara: all of it delicious and I can’t wait to return!

We arrived at bit early andwere suprised to be the only cutomers inthe restaurant. it was bit hard to find but worth the effort. The lrge room was filled with many set tables. We shared a house pizza that was perfect. My freshly made fettucina washeavenly, light and flavorful. The ravioli had wonderful filling and great pompadoro sauce. The room filled up with well dressed Romans who were enjoying themselves Many ordered fish dishes which we should have tried. When we return to Rome we will enjoy coming here again.

Nothing special and expensive. Service was quite poor - they said "yes one moment" and never came back every time. The place was also nothing special, sitting next to parked cars.
This is not an Israeli food pleace as I wrongly assumed by its name. It's a kosher Italian food restaurant.
Their famous artishok and zuccini flowers were probably made correctly but I'm no fan of deep fried food or vegetable rolls (also deep fried) and it was not said so on the menu.

Last night we went to this restaurant for the artichoke festival. Being Roman we often went to eat in the ghetto, but we had never tried such a terrible restaurant. Pitiful service, the waiters don't understand Italian well, you eat on the table without a tablecloth or protective paper, both the first and second courses are indefinable, they seem piled up with ingredients, the artichokes are judged to be dry and hard, and finally the price is very high . One!!!

It was a Guide Michelin recommendation so we went after the Coliseum visit. Italian restaurant ran by Jewish people, not very friendly when we enter, pizzas have nothing really special and no flavour! But the pasta was delicious, my daughter had a spaghetti cacio pepe and it was the best plate! They charge for tap water in a jar which is to me ridiculous!!! So I recommend only fie pasta…

in search of Roman Jewish cuisine and at the suggestion of acquaintances we arrived full of expectations...unfortunately nothing satisfied us. Artichokes alla giudia to forget, perhaps frozen and certainly not fried, a so-called tasteless courgette carbonara pasta, first courses drowned in cream (but if it hasn't been used for forty years?!?!) slice, perhaps better to say slice of tuna, dry, tasteless courgette dressing, dry focaccia, high bill, insistent and pedantic service: in short, an absolutely negative experience. I wanted to try eating in a Jewish restaurant inside the ghetto for the first time, and this place was the only one with satisfactory reviews.
We are 5 people, Sunday lunch, we order 4 artichokes alla giudia (5 euros each), fried royal (12 euros, consisting of battered artichokes, potatoes, cod fillets, courgettes and mozzarella) and 5 small pizzas (10 euros) .
Then 3 second courses (2 morsels of salmon, 1 anchovy with endive, typical dish).
2 first courses (12 euros each, fettuccine with anchovies and pecorino).
1 red pizza (8 euros, perhaps a little expensive)
The fried foods were excellent, especially the cod, the Giudia artichoke could perhaps have been a little larger and crunchier, but it was still good.
First courses normal, second courses ok although too expensive (20 euros each).
We took 2 desserts (tart with ricotta and sour cherry, 6 euros each, very good).
1 kosher wine from Cantina Sant'Andrea (chardonnay priced at 14 euros).
Total 170 euros, I would say acceptable.
Waiters attentive, fast and kind.
In summary: a valid address in the ghetto, often populated by hyper-touristy and hyper-expensive places.

A very specific and glorious tradition of lightly fried vegetables and cod, freshly made and well presented in a true, warm atmosphere. Service is helpful and friendly. Recommendation: the anchovy cake with endive.

We ate lunch on a Friday afternoon - we were in a rush to catch a train to Florence, so we ate only the main course. Both my wife and I ate fish. The cost per meal was €20, which is extremely reasonable anywhere and the more so for Rome. One of us had sea bass and the other had sea bream. My fish was cooked with tomatoes and my wife's with potatoes. Her potatoes were on the oily side; my fish was excellent. Both meals came with a side salad, which was tired and could have been fresher. But we were happy with our choices and would definitely go back. I was there about 17 years ago with one of our sons: it was very good then and it has maintained its standard.

Was in Italy and finally made it to Rome and wanted Italian pizza and spaghetti after eating junk food for 10 says. Pizza had no taste at all. The fettuccine w/ tomatoes sauce had very tomato taste but no other flavor. Couldn't even taste the cheese in the pasta.
If I'm ever back to Italy will go somewhere else.

A wonderful restaurant that provided excellent service and was very accommodating of our large group of 15 - 8 adults and 7 kids. We absolutely loved our waiter, who was from Egypt originally and made us all feel so welcome. The food was excellent, especially the fried sampler with cod and artichokes. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the fish dishes for our main meal including a honey salmon, and the pizzas were crowd pleasers for the kids. We would highly recommend and hope to return someday.

We frequent with my partner the ghetto for quite a while and for a number of circumstances we had never happened to stop to eat in this place, preferring to stay usually in the area closest to the Portico of Octavia. This place is quaint inside with wooden chairs and tasteful decor. We ordered a Yael fry, an artichoke, an anchovy pie and a calzone stuffed with chicory. In order:
Top frying (15 euros) both in portion and taste, is rich and varied, the batter crispy, tasty and remains light. In my opinion exceptional value for money, it is a course that you can safely divide.
Artichoke ni, I'm being honest in the ghetto you find something better.
The cake (20 euros) was the sore note: it was inedible, without presumption what I tried to do at home, following a recipe taken on youtube, was more good. The anchovies swam in the water, resulting in a boiled anchovy flavor that forced us to leave it on the table. The endive was probably not left to dry. I gnawed a lot because it is a course that I really like and it also costs 20 euros. I pointed out politely and politely everything to the waiters, the first was annoyed, the second blamed it all on the fact that it was Saturday night.
The stuffed calzone has partly sweetened the bitterness, the dough is good, light and crispy and inside is nice full of chicory. Total price including some house wine 63 euros.

We ate at Yotvata for lunch. The food was good - very good, and the service excellent. There a family feel and everyone is friendly and helpful. We followed their recommendation on most items but even the ones we didn't were delicious.
They also make their own cheeses, which are varied and very tasty.
They are not located on the main strip in the Jewish ghetto so you have to ask people how to get there (or google maps etc). they are just around the corner, but worth seeking out.
