Went here for an early dinner following our tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Had to wait just a couple of minutes for an outdoor table and were served promptly. I had 0.4L of Peroni Gran Reserva and my girlfriend had a glass of...house white, both were reasonably priced. We ordered the trio of bruschetta to share as a starter which was delicious, particularly the one with just tomatoes. I then decided to visit the toilet which was a mistake given that there was just one male toilet which is insufficient for a restaurant that has clearly expanded due to its immense popularity. I waited nearly ten minutes and by the time I'd got back to the table the food had been there for five minutes according to my girlfriend. I ordered the cacio e pepe but instead received the carbonara which was stunning, by far the best I've eaten. Only got charged for the cacio e pepe which was cheaper so I'm not complaining! My girlfriend's meatballs in tomato sauce were delicious. I had the panna cotta for dessert and she had the tiramisu and both were tasty. Bill was reasonable, only 60 euro for three courses and an alcoholic drink each. All in all it was worth the trek (if you can hold it in).More

When you travel eat local! Especially if the road leads you to Rome, or any other place in Italy, with such a huge culinary history and gastronomic tradition. In Rome food is literally everywhere, in every street, in every corner, near all famous city landmarks...and in small or out-of-the-way neighborhood. And believe me, the food is amazing. Tonnarello is one of these restaurants that keeps tradition alive, it offers homemade food, I imagine just like an Italian mom used to make it, or it definitely feels like that! It’s in Trastevere, one of the most beautiful, colorful, genuine and lively neighborhoods of the Italian capital, but not so crowded as the historic centre. We followed a friend’s advice to eat there and we weren’t disappointed in the least! It’s located at the end of a small, narrow cobbled street that ends up in an open space with charming outside seating. It wasn’t easy to choose from the menu as everything looked so delicious so we had the carbonara, meatballs “cioco e pepe” and pizza “boscaiola”. The carbonara was probably one of the best pasta I’ve ever had, homemade spaghetti but thicker, with egg and chunks of bacon and lots of parmesan cheese, served in a pan. The meatballs were huge, stuffed with cheese, covered in white sauce, with local greens and potatoes, also very tasty and colorful! Finally, the pizza served on a wooden cutting board was exactly what you expect an Italian authentic pizza should look and taste like: thin and crispy, perfectly baked, laden with mushrooms, mozzarella and sausage! We just couldn’t finish our dinner without an authentic Italian dessert, so we had tiramisu! It was so fresh, soft, creamy and super moist but also very light and flavorful! Everything looked, smelled and tasted fantastic! Service was exceptional, laid back and casual but prompt and with attention to detail! Our waiter Fabio, who actually spoke a little Greek, was a real professional! For To conclude, Tonnarello is absolutely recommended for a memorable, true Italian culinary experience, everything was great: the atmosphere, the food, service and prices! PS. free wifi is available!More

The best pasta I had tried in my life so far. Pasta was Al Dente, and had great consistency. Carbonara sauce was tasty but for some people it can be too salty (but maybe Italian cousins is more salty - first restaurant). Meatballs cacio e...pepe also had very good meat. Great climate and service, greetings for Sina! Awesome mustache ;) Must see when you visit Rome.More

This was the best restaurant we tried in Rome, the food was delicious, the staff was very kind, we had a wonderful experience here. The restaurant is located in such a nice area, perfect for young people. It is certainly a place where you feel...alive, where you can enjoy a beer and have a very good time. There was a queue at the entrance, but it was definitely worth it!More

The pizza here is okay. The place is definitely overrated and you sit like herring in a barrel. Would not come back again

Horribly overhyped restaurant. Menus, plates, cutlery is all greasy and dirty. Pasta is extremely boring. This is a tourist trap.

We were in Tonarello with my girlfriend in January and it’s one of the best places we decided to go out for dinner. Really nice atmosphere in this scenic restaurant. The queue even it was long we were sitted quite easily and fast but even...a short delay worths 100%. Really tasty food, nice portions and very good prices. We wanted to say a big shoutout to Bryan, the waiter that served us. He was very attentive and he had great customer skills. We still don’t know how he managed to uncover our nationality by the way!! Very nice guy and professional. We will come again for sure on our next visit. Till then, Arrivederci!More

After reading the amazing reviews, I assumed this place would top our culinary experiences in Rome however, I was utterly wrong! The queues to get to grab a table were super long!! The mixed fried rice balls were not great and the presentation was extremely...disappointing. My husband ordered lasagne and it was extremely underwhelming. The pizza was ok. Tonnarelo’s is perhaps the most overrated restaurant I have eaten at during my time in Italy!!More

The staff was kind, energetic and courteous! My Carciofi alla Giudia was the best one I have had in Rome! I rarely eat pasta, I just don’t care for it but I tried the Carbonara and I LOVED IT!!!! My husbands lasagna was just as...delicious. I honestly ate as much as I could and ate my leftovers for breakfast!!! You may have to wait in line but it’s worth it!More
