Visited this trattoria on November 17 for dinner on the recommendation of a friend who frequently visits Rome. I was not disappointed with the food, wine or service. I had a pasta vongole followed by scallops of veal in lemon sauce. A half bottle of wine is very reasonable too.

We enjoyed our dinner here overall very much. The 4 euro a glass Brunello was excellent, as was the special pasta. The only thing we were "so so" about was the osso bucco, which wasn't a great quality piece of veal, but both people in our party who got it ate it all. Being from the US, we might have... More

Very popular traditional Italian restaurant which was packed with a mix of locals and tourists on the Tuesday evening we went. We had previously booked by phone and got a great table in the main room by the window - note : there were quite a few tables in a "corridor" which did not not look as attractive. Our waiter... We decided we wanted as romans a true roman dinner, our hotel was walking distance so the choice fell on this typical, old, traditional roman trattoria.Very good choice indeed. One starter from the window, vegetables, fish and omelette, one classic starter, buffalo mozzarella and delicious ham cut in front of your eyes as well as a nice warm plate of... More

We were referred to this restaurant by the hotel staff at Britannia Hotel, where we stayed. The restaurant was within walking distance from our hotel. We dined outside the first time we dined there. Service, food and wine were excellent, above our expectations. We had such a great experience, we dined here again before we left Rome. Great atmosphere, food,... More

La Matriciana across the street from Rome's opera opened in 1870 and is still owned by the same family. Several rooms and tables outside [where it is quite cool in October] and interior is pretty and congenial. Food is excellent with good variety of traditional Italian dishes. The waiters speak at least basic English suited for service. in a restaurant.

This restaurant was located near our hotel and we happened upon it one evening. What a lucky thing for us that we did! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Lots of 'typical' Italian dishes that we recognised but with a few different choices too so it didn't feel as if the menu was the 'same old, same old'. Competitively priced... More

Best caprese salad. The pasta ragu wasn't so good, but the matriciana was delicious. Very nice restaurant and very close to termini.

We read about this restaurant on Google and decided to give it a try since it was across the street from our hotel. We went in without reservation at 7 pm and was not greeted with much enthusiasm nor courtesy. We had beef cappaccio and grilled pork chop and some green salad and none of the dishes came out to... Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
