I have been to La Gensola several times, and each and every time it's been memorable. Sicilian cuisine with a twist. A truly tasty menu. First they bring you a complimentary dish of Panelle, a fried fritter made of ceci beans which is a favorite street dish in Palermo. Which incidentally is where my mother is from, so it brings... My family and I were recommended La Gensola and we could not have been more satisfied. The food was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful. They took lots of time to explain their wine recommendations. Lots of locals started filling the restaurant and many had clearly been there multiple times. Our servers were extremely welcoming and made some excellent recommendations.... More

We have eaten here now on two occasions only having discovered this restaurant at the end of our holiday as it was recommended by a local acquaintance. On both occasions the food was exceptional with the fish and seafood being cooked to perfection. The wine list is exceptional with many wines reasonably priced. The wines of Lazio being very good... Quaint interior in a nice convenient spot. I had the John Dory and it was good but wouldn't say it was anything great. My wife's shrimp linguini had two and a half small shrimp in it, and while we acknowledge US portions are over-sized, this was a bit light. Ice cream was stale and icy, wife didn't eat it and... Get the bass ravioli - it's terrific. Wine list is big, good, and varied. The scrambled/fried egg started was delicious too.

Even while it looked like they were short staffed- this restaurant made sure that each customer was served on time and had great service. I really enjoyed the food. I ordered the special of the day, it was a shrimp and mushroom pasta, YUM! And for dessert, they had an amazing apple crumble. I would definitely recommend this place! It's... More

I received a recommendation from a resident of Rome to go here (not a transplant, an Italian). Simply great experience! Not touristy, great food, great atmosphere, great staff. Very impressed and will be back for sure! The swordfish was great! Spaghetti with clams...wow! And lots of clams. Definitely recommend! Oh, and recommend making reservations.

Seafood delicately cooked, excellent pasta dishes. If you like your pasta boiled to a soup, be warned - it's properly al a dente here.

I came to La Gensola because a friend said it is a must while in Rome. She wasn't wrong. La Gensola is by far my favorite restaurant in Rome. The prices are reasonable for what you get. The food is delicious! Fresh and perfectly seasoned. The service is also great. Will definitely come back when I visit Rome

We went for dinner. The Pinot Grigio was a treat. The Octopus and the Fish were delicious, served by super friendly staff. The Tuna was also delicious.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
