Restaurants around here seem to thrive on the captive market of tour groups and others not willing to go to the other side of the river where the really good restaurants are located. There is nothing really wrong with this restaurant, but then again, nothing really right about it either. Average prices for average quality and quantity.

Near the Vatican, down one of those funky Roman side streets is the Italian place you've been looking for. We all enjoyed the pizza, the carbonara and the lasagna, accompanied by La Pilotta's own red wine. You feel like you are sitting in the owners' kitchen, chatting with friends. The prices are very reasonable and they actually bring your bill... More

I am coeliac, so I booked my trip to the pastry-laiden destination of Europe cautiously. We had just come out of the Vatican in the pouring October rain and only had an hour to grab some lunch before heading off again. I felt aimless and lost, so we wandered looking for the all too familiar "gluten free" signs that often... More

My friend and I decide to try this place in our last night in Rome. The waitress give us the table on the open door to the street from you can have a beautiful view of the San Peter's Basilica Dome. Great pasta, charmed place, excellent service.

My two teenage sons and I had dinner here on our first night in Rome. We didn't choose starters as we were on a fairly tight budget. The food arrived very quickly which suggested it was not freshly prepared. I had risotto which seemed more packet than fresh. The boys had pasta and pizza. The service was OK but the... More

Enjoyable and delicious food. I had the tortelini with meat sauce which tasted very good. My husband ordered the chicken breast in green peppered sauce. He and the kids liked it so much he ordered another. The prices are a bit high. This chicken was $14 euros a piece. My daughter ordered a pizza and liked that, I had a... More

We ate here on our first night in Rome and on our last night. Pizza, lasagna, Fettuccine Alfredo, bruschetta - all of it was wonderful! Mario is a wonderful owner and made us feel right at home.

The pizza was taken from the freezer in front of our faces. The starters were so plain that we decided to cancel the rest. The owner became so aggressive that he pushed over our friend and we almost had to call the police. Wow!

This is a quiet traditional Rome restaurant across the street from the Vatican. Rarely crowded and characterized by polite and unobtrusive service. It's excellence however comes from the fact that is serves the tastiest pasta I have ever had---and that covers fifty-three years of Roman experience.
