the location is conveniently located near the train station, but still away from the crowd. we happened upon this by accident the first time, and had a spectacular meal. we had the works: prosciutto, mozzarella, anchovies, and my pasta : cacio e pepe was to die for. Service was extremely attentive. We had Gianni....Gianni we missed you the second time... More

We came across this whilst looking for cheap decent carbonara, and were sat at a picturesque table outside. Food was very good with complimentary italian bread, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Carbonara was 9 euros which is very reasonable considering the quality and the fact that we just made a table with the restaurant full. Would recommend if you're based... More

We were in rome 3 nights and 2 night we ate here. Prices are excellent, food is excellent and the portions are large. The staff is terrific.

Positive: the quality of the food was good. Negative: 1. Waiter wasn't attentive at all. We had to go after him for napkins, water, bread, to clean the table, the bill. 2. Service is very slow... we waited for our food for more than half an hour. 3. Pricy. We wanted to pick a fixed priced menu but ended ordering... More

On our last day of our trip to Rome, we planned to have a quick meal near the train station. However, we ended up spending over 2 hours at Da Gemma alla Lupa. Service was very slow for a trattoria. The food was ok, but nothing special. The price and portion were very good though. For 25 euros, one can... More

Whilst on holiday decided to give this trattoria a visit as it was close to our hotel. Disappointment is an understatement. We had the set price menu and it was awful. 1st course was OK as it was freshly cooked. The chicken for the main had been re-heated several times and when my mother complained no apology or alternative was... More

We visited this establishment whilst on a short stay in Rome and we wished we hadn't bothered. Service was incredibly poor, very grumpy waiting staff. We only ordered the 1 course and took two hours for it to reach the table, during this time they had to visit our table to refresh themselves of the order. The only redeeming thing... More

This was actually this one time when we didn't check trip advisor for reviews. Sad and unpleasant experience. Or waiter kept forgetting to bring our drinks and appetizers. White wine was smelling so bad that we couldn't drink it, I've never experienced that before. Red wine was colder than the white ones. All the food we ordered weren't good. This... More

Four middle aged Americans had a lovely evening under a canopy two short blocks from Termini and near many comfortable hotels. GG greeted our foot-store quartet with a big smile and a 10 Euro litre of pretty good house wine. Entrees were familiar and well prepared. The pasta with lobster was a treat. Will certainly be back!

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
