Da Michele is a pizzeria history, among the most famous in the world. Perhaps they got carried away and focus more on quantity than quality. We went at 6pm, so we did very little in a row, but a few hours later there were really a lot of people waiting. Take the number and when it’s your turn they make you sit down, we downstairs, windowless room, anonymous, tables even far enough from each other with the paper placemat on which is the printed face of Michele (price of the blanket 1€, fits).
4 flavors of pizza and even this fits, in a historic place, except that it has little to do with Neapolitan pizza!
It is simply a huge disc with undercooked mozzarella and so much liquid dressing that it makes it difficult to eat without cutlery. The staff is friendly, also because at the end of dinner they veiledly force you to tip.
Perhaps it is a more media stage, a symbol of the city, now, undoubtedly not the temple of pizza.
In Naples in every corner you will eat a better pizza.

Upon arrival in Naples the first stop was Michele. We arrived at 19 and waited relatively little, 5/10 minutes. After the order the pizza arrived in an instant. It is a very special place, the movements of pizza makers, wooden shovels, marble tables, really good prices, with little you can eat two nice pizzas and a cold beer. Stra recommended.

There is definitely a hype about this restaurant that draws the crowds in. It has old pictures on the walls and feels like it's a traditional restaurant serving simple pizzas. Excel at the basics is a good principle to follow.
Pizzas were delicious. As it's simple, I think they could have given us more basil. However, the beers were ridiculously expensive.
Only 1 working toilet for an extremely busy restaurant - it's being renovated, so it'll be like this for a while, I think.
Service is not friendly or attentive. And I really dislike the fact that they blatantly ask for a tip.
Overall, it was good to experience what the fuss is about. Would I return? Not for dine-in, takeaway maybe.

Despite the high expectations, not recommended to eat on the spot, it starts at the wait, you take a tombola ticket and wait until you have price and your number appears. We had price after 40 minutes waiting for a curb in the polluted streets of the city. Waited another hour for the pizza.
It may be the oldest pizzeria in Naples, but innovation might be in order. The air conditioning was so low it was cold, plastic cups for your drinks, your cutlery wrapped, paper placemats. Old-fashioned and out of step with the times, there is nothing authentic about this.
The atmosphere was substandard, no background music, we were in a side room of a basement with 3 cameras pointed at us, most uncomfortable place I already came. After dinner the tippot was shoved in my face with the evil words "no tip?", sorry but if you have to ask three times which drinks and pizza we ordered... No waiters who don't perform don't deserve a tip.
The pizza itself was large but very watery, no structure, no coherence, no spices, this was at most an average pizza by the average fast food American will be tasted by its large.
Not recommended, I think you would better do a take-away at this place, then the experience is hopefully better.

We visited Naples' two most famous pizzerias over three days—both with the longest queues—and came up with a unanimous verdict based on their top seller, the Margherita:
Sorbillo is much, much, MUCH better than Da Michele. Here’s why:
1) Burnt Crust: Da Michele’s pizza crust is completely burnt, probably because they don’t clean the oven frequently enough to remove excess flour. Sorbillo, on the other hand, seems to clean their oven more regularly. Also, Da Michele’s dough is overly salty.
2) Watery Tomato Sauce: Da Michele’s tomato sauce is so watery that you can barely taste the tomatoes. Sorbillo, however, uses a standard sauce (passata?).
3) Improper Melting: Da Michele bakes the pizzas so quickly that the mozzarella doesn’t melt properly and just sits in clumps on the surface. Sorbillo takes the time to get it right.
4) Basil Stinginess: Da Michele uses a single basil leaf per Margherita, which, given that it’s one of only three main ingredients, is simply not acceptable. Sorbillo may be frugal too, but not to the same extent.
5) Tipping Pressure: Da Michele’s waiters are even more insistent on tips than Sorbillo’s, and the service is inferior.
6) Less Charm: Da Michele isn’t as cozy or charming as Sorbillo. They rush you out of the restaurant right after you finish eating.
Julia Roberts and Diego Maradona may have dined at Da Michele, but that doesn’t make the product any better. Honestly, the local Turkish pizzeria back in Denmark makes a better Margherita than Da Michele, sorry to say.

From Michele, why? Because there were "once" famous people documented by the photos in the place, because believe me if you want to go there for pizza you are wrong.
Waiting in the street, sitting on the floor for half an hour, the old and unwelcoming place.
Tables with marble top, paper placemat, paper bag with cutlery and napkin the glass is plastic, the one to do the urine test so to speak.
Choice of pizzas 4 ! You may wonder how 4, yes only 4 indeed then we discovered that the fourth did not do it: daisy, marinara, Cossack (what they did not do was half daisy and half Cossack).
Waiting for the pizza another 40 minutes, then the pizzas arrive: big ones coming out of the pizza plate, raw, chewy, uncooked mozzarella (it looked like a caprese heated just barely) a stink. There were 8 of us only one of us finished a daisy and I ate the inside of the Cossack (tomato puree with a light sprinkling of pecorino).
Please Naples is full of pizzerias that make it good and worth your visit.
The note that saves her from a bad judgment is the cost of pizza and drinking, you see if for a few euros you want to spend the night sleepless attached to the water bottle.

Arrived at 7:55 p.m., served at 10:15 p.m. Waiting outside until 10 p.m. Please note, no more table reservations from 8:30 p.m., even for regulars.
So when you wait 2 hours in a happy brothel (go and get your ticket as soon as you arrive) you expect the best of the best. If everyone is waiting, the pizza must be exceptional
What a disappointment...first of all the room, how can I say two meters from you a lady is washing dishes in a room open to the room, nice in terms of noise and atmosphere. We are seated, the cutlery pockets are thrown (literally) on the table and we take our order. In 5 minutes the pizzas arrive. And surprise, they don't look overcooked and they actually aren't.
While we chat about the pitiful state of the pizza, the cooks start to clean up (10:25 p.m.)...please get moving and leave quickly.
Received five out of five, we leave at 10:30 p.m. We go to the cash register to pay and the guy at the cash register (the manager probably) hands us the bill, the payment terminal without a glance (too busy on his phone). It's me who cuts the credit card ticket, he doesn't care (note that I'm being polite here).
In short, a long wait which is not justified by the quality of the product, a restaurant where you are rushed to leave. So this bill is unbeatable but for 5 euros more per person you will find a thousand times better elsewhere.
Little message to the manager: stop making fun of your customers and have a little respect. Your reputation is very overrated, you do not honor Naples.

We waited for 45 minutes for 5 of the 6 pizzas ordered, which were completely chewy and moist, the sixth arrived another half an hour later. The staff does not speak Italian, they are Indian or Southeast Asian guys who are absolutely unable to cover any services. Finally, the lady at the checkout is a unique rudeness: they are lucky to have created a name... but fame comes and goes.

Since they had Accommodation near the famous pizzeria we decided to give it a try. After 3 days of endless queues for both sitting and taking away, we opt for the latter. Line up, pay and wait for them to call you to pick up the pizza. Availability of only 2 types of pizza (marinara or margherita), after 1 h we manage to eat our pizza which was a real disappointment. I may not be an expert but it wasn't tasty it was soggy and burnt.

You enter, barely greet you, you sit down and you are told that the pizzas are 2 (margherita and marinara).
Beer only 1 brand.
My margherita was full of mozzarella still to melt and when you cut it became a soggy mass and you could not eat it, marinara a little better because it does not have mozzarella, we asked for spicy oil and they answered that you do not put on pizza.
We got up to go pay at the checkout and the waiter who until then has nervously answered us in monosyllables chased us to tell us that you do not pay them the blanket for which the tip is welcome.
While I was waiting I saw fill the approx of oil, for pizza, with seed oil.
I don't even comment, I leave the conclusions to you!!

Extremely busy with massive queue outside.
It looks chaotic but is not.l but it is confusing
The 2 types of pizza on offer Margherita or Marinara are very good and the price is very reasonable.
You can eat inside but seems hit and miss weather you get to eat in the old place or the new one across the road.
It's an experience and if you can wait 30 minutes at a minimum it is worth doing for a pizzeria that has Michelin recommendations over the years.

If you want to eat Michele's typical pizza you have to be willing to wait. Waiting not only in line to sit down or for takeaway but also for the nice guy at the entrance to let a pregnant couple or a family with elderly people in without a number. If you want to eat here you must be willing to accept the true heart of the Neapolitans without getting angry: sooner or later everyone eats and the Neapolitans never give up their hearts. The pizza is worth it, even eaten sitting on the sidewalk in front.

Went here as it was highly recommended and had the appeal of being in a movie. We had a long wait for a table, approximately 40 to 60 minutes and then we were seated in a new building which had nothing to do with the movie at all. The pizza o received had an extremely burnt base and crust and that’s all I could taste. When we went to pay, the server then commented about the lack of tip given which as a waitress myself, tips should never be expected, they should be earned and from our experience, the tip just wasn’t earned. A long wait for food that wasn’t enjoyable.

Unfortunately only a nice memory of the past!! Since it became a pizza industry, it has lost much of the characteristics that made you well bear the wait, the Spartan furniture, the plastic cups the little choice of pizzas, the lack of fries and eating together with strangers (which was not always a negative experience). Today for the umpteenth time I persisted in going to Michele s, in the real headquarters in Via Sersale and it is to my astonishment I take the ticket at 12 and 12.10 am already seated. There were two of us, captain in the new structure that was taken over to meet the many requests, and unfortunately go down to an underground hovel for goodness sake well lit by lights, but no one who points you to the table to sit at and then we sit at the first free table, after about 10 min since no one came to the table I ask a waiter intent on clearing the other tables, which we had to order. So the guy with the radiette calls another guy who comes and takes the order of pizzas, and I ask him nicely if they bring me a drink that I was thirsty. The boy passes the order of drinks and I get the drinks, but without glasses and hot coke! Time 5 min and the pizzas arrive. Alas something already found several times arrive burnt under, and with "mozzarella" not as beautiful stringy as it should be. so we eat some more edible slice, pay and leave in total indifference of the waiters who do not ask us why the pizzas we had left for more than half without eating.

Expected wait 40 minutes
Real wait 2 hours!!!
Lady from the bar next door passes by everyone many times to bring food to her customers who pay €9 for a spritz and €5 for an iced tea (we went for a drink while waiting for the announced 40 minutes)
Waiting in the restaurant for the service of 4 margherita more than 30 minutes
In total almost 3 hours for a good pizza but I will never return. Before it was better and better!
