While the pizza was delicious, the atmosphere is small and uncomfortable, making it difficult to enjoy the pizza to the fullest extent. The tables are very small and closely spaced together, leaving little room for maneuvering - in fact I became extremely well acquainted with my neighbor’s elbows.
Prices are proper, however on our way out our server stood in front of the door & asked for an additional ‘service tip’.
We both ordered the Margherita pizza (only 2 types of pizza: Margherita and Marinara) which was delicious.
I definitely recommend this place, but get it to takeaway!!

We’ve been visiting Naples for years (my partner is Italian,) and I’ve always wanted to try da Michele. Previous times it had been too busy, but we arrived today (Monday,) at 3pm and only had to wait 10mins. Unfortunately however, it did not live up to the hype.
Quality ingredients - yes
Value for money - yes
The atmosphere was a bit lacklustre and I believe the pizza dough was a bit heavier than others I have tried in Naples. The service was quick however, bare in mind there is communal seating, but we didn’t mind that.
I would definetley recommended trying it, as it seems to be an institution in Naples, however personally I know for certain there is at least 1 pizzeria better than this.

Also a classic not to be missed when you are in Napoli. A real authentic Napolitan pizza. During our visit I think there were more tourists than locals, however the pizza is excellent and good value for money. You have to queue up depending on the time the queue gets longer. But definitely worthwhile when you are in the vicinity.

We came here as it was supposed to be the best pizza in the world. The pizza was ok but compared to other family run pizzeria around town it did not stand out. I get the whole game they’re play, treat the customers with as much indifference as possible because it gives the impression that something amazing is happening. It’s not. The rooms are bright and over lit, literally feels like a operating theatre or film set, the chairs are loud and the room acoustics are jarring. The waiters act like their carrying the weight of the combined pizza world on their shoulders.... then comes the pizza. Again, it’s ok but not cut properly and the margarita( only two choices to buy the way) had one basil leaf. One. That summed up the overall experience for me. Then when it came time to leave the waiter followed me to the counter to ensure a standard 5 euro tip was paid. In conclusion the pizza was edible but we found way better ones around town, some of them in 3rd generation run restaurants. Way better... do yourself a favour and find you’re own beat pizza in the world and don’t follow the fickle mob.

Really bad experience the waiting time is too long and worthlessness. The pizza is completely burned and when you eat it you can feel the acidity of the carbonised base. The worst pizza of Napoli!!!Service quick but unkindand we did not appreciated the horrible pressure at the end of the meal when the waiter followed us from out table to the exit of the shop to leave the tips as if we are in the middle of the street with the street vendors. The management of the shop is poorly when we was still eating the people was crushing the glass bottles of the day behind us and we have not had even the chance to speak between us.To speed up the closing process they started to close the damper while a lot of people still eating inside that is really rude even because we paid for the food is not free so we pretend to be treated as all the other people that they serve during the week! The shop environment is dilapidated and when we underlined all this problems to the manager he started to shout against us that we have not advise him at the start of the meal but only as suggestions when we paid.I also asked him to monitorize the staff because none of them has the mask regolare putted on the face and there is no space between the people in the shop. The manager seems really alterated but not apologetic. Really NOT recommended there are millions of good pizza shops in Napoli but this is not one of them! They work only because they are still using the famous name of the 70ties without keeping up the level so spread the word and save your money this is not a good publicity for Italian cousine and typical Italian best pizza!!!

Went here while on a work trip to Naples. We looked to see what the slowest time to go was because we had heard stories of how you have to wait in line for an hour or more sometimes. When we arrived there were just 3 groups waiting in front of us so our waiting time outside was about 15 minutes (you take a number once you arrive). Once seated (there were 2 of us and we were seated at a table for 4 and thought “great! We will have a big table to ourselves! Wrong....they sat two other people at our table and it was kind of comical because the other two people basically went out of their way not to talk to us at all), it took 15 minutes before the ONE server came by to take our drink order and then another 15 minutes before they came to take our pizza order. We ordered one of each. They only offer Margherita or Marinara. I agree with some of the other reviewers who said the dough was a bit burned in spots and it lent that flavor to the crust. Both my husband and I thought that the Marinara had more flavor because there is garlic and oregano in the sauce and on the Margherita there is just tomatoes, cheese and a few sprigs of basil. The restaurant was actually bigger than I thought it was. I assumed from photos I’d looked at that it was just the first small room when you enter the restaurant but there are actually 3 rooms, maybe a total of 25 tables or so with either 2 or 4 people. There is a restroom although boy did it need some help. What is it with no toilet seats in Naples? I found that to be the case in the restrooms at the airport as well. I don’t get it. The restroom was also just grossly dirty. Would I go back? Not regularly, no. It was a place I wanted to visit because of the notoriety of being the “original” pizzeria and the birthplace of Margherita pizza.

Honestly, I didn't like Naples, but I absolutely loved the pizza here! <3
It's worth the wait. We were there two times during our stay in Naples, the first time we waited for about 30 minutes to be called inside, the other time it was a bit shorter. Make sure you get your number at the door when you arrive and don't wander too far away so you don't miss when it's called.
There are two types of pizza - margherita (very, very, VERY yummy) and marinara (I'm not a fan, but I've seen people enjoying it).
Expect the crowds and be patient! :)

Haha this really was one that did not live up to its hype.
What worked: very cheap (5 euros only, they make only two kinds of pizza) , freshly made and it’s hot ( if you have it there and then!)
What doesn’t work: it’s a very very long queue for even a take away ( about 45 mins standing around whilst Uber drivers pick up stuff sooner and to sit in is about 1 hour). The saddest part was that The pizza is truly not that tasty - which was surprising given its soo old and so well known! Then they usher you across the street for a ‘sitting down fellow cafe’ - be aware two drinks and the sitting charge come to about the same as two pizzas.
Anyway give it a go - if you’re the fomo type at least you can talk about it and some people seemed to have loved it! We did not and wished we had not wasted our time.

Pizza it’s really amazing, but not sure if the best in Napoli...in other pizzerias you can find pizzas as good as this.
The queues are huge, the staff is not polite, and I would say even a little bit disrespectful...after more than 30 minutes in the queue, a really rude woman came to tell that queue would be accept only until one person before me.
Tip: buy the pizza take away and eat in the nice caffe on the other side of the street (they have table, drinks and a really nice staff to receive you)

We were only in Naples for two days, so we didn't get to explore and eat as much pizza as we had wanted to. But if you want a great, old school no frills Napoli pizza experience, this is a great option. The pizzas are piping hot when they come out and are quite big for an individual size, but they're only 5 euro each. They offer 4 different pizzas, we of course went with the traditional Margherita which was very very good. Beverages are limited - water, coke, beer. We got in pretty quickly to sit down, but by the time we left there was a large crowd of about 20-25 people outside waiting to be seated. The turnaround is pretty efficient, we were in and out within a half an hour or so, but keep in mind there may be a long wait.

It's a world that doesn't make sense. How can an ordinary beer in a bar be 5 euros and a fantasic pizza also cost 5 euros?
We had intended to eat in, but there were 24 people waiting outside (I've seen much worse) and we weren't quite sure how long we would have to wait, so we opted for a takeaway/takeout as we were only a 3 min walk away.
We had the marherita and Marinara and had a slight prefernce for the Margherita

First arriving to the restaurant, we could notice a large group of people waiting outside to seat or to take away. After a 40 minutes wait in a bar nearby, we finally were able to enter and seat. The expectations were high: at least four Michelin recommendations in different years, many other quality certifications, the famous Julia Roberts movie (which is even quoted and signed by the actress in a photo hanging in a wall inside)… I mean, you don’t see that often.
To our surprise, the menu had only four or five pizza options (one of which was a blend of two of the pizzas in the menu)… and that was it. We ordered a margherita pizza and a couple of beers, and it arrived in less than five minutes. Probably pre heated somewhere. The result was… uneven: excellent cheese (molten fior di latte), regular sauce, terrible terrible dough (moist, mixed with the other ingredients, unable to separate from the cheese). And the flavor was so average that we actually felt eating in a tourist trap in Rome. Terribly frustrating.
We decided to leave, and the billing process took more than our whole stay in the restaurant. Despite that, the garçon insisted on the tip we had to give him. We obviously refused.
A very sad experience. Should definitely be avoided, although the massive publicity from the movie (and the cheap prices, let’s give them that point) will continue to lure unsuspecting customers into their sticky dough trap.
1st photo: unevenly spread, scarce basil. Because screw you, that’s why
2nd photo: we weren’t able to finish the whole thing

Pizza is very overpriced and way too thin to hold up the ingredients.
Service was beyond poor. One hour waiting, no apologies. Writer only caring about upselling drinks. An unopened bottle of white wine was left on the table for 15 minutes and afterwards they didn’t bring an ice bucket despite having been asked twice.
We asked for the bill and got told the payment machine was old and slow, therefore we couldn’t split the bill (it was a table of 9). When we reiterated it was 9 of us the waiter said “at least you’ll all have to do me a favour and pay the exact same amount”. After this we asked to remove the service charge, the waiter got visibly nervous and asked what went wrong.
We mentioned that despite all the things that went wrong, there was also a hair found in one of the “frittata” dishes - he claimed that the kitchen was busy and the restaurant understaffed, and he had to serve 40 tables on his own. Felt sorry for him but it’s not fair to bring these issues up to the client and it felt very awkward. Again, no apologies when they could have just said “sorry” and offer something complementary (amaro, limoncello etc).
Definitely not worth going, try Franco Manca instead. They have cheaper pizza and better service. Waiter didn’t even say goodbye back to us when we left. I’m never coming back.

This was the first thing we did while in Naples. Queued for about 45 mins to get a seat here and eat two reasonably priced pizzas and beers. It was an experience watching the pizza being made. Don’t expect special service, they want you in and they want you out, they need the table. Pizza was great when hot but if you don’t eat it fast it’s gets soggy and cheese hardens.

My teenage son and I tried the famous da Michele pizzaria an evening in October. We waited in line for about fifteen minutes and signed in the book (due to Covid19 regulations) at the door before entering the rustic pizza place. We ordered a Margherita pizza (they just have a few kind of pizzas) to share and a drink each. We were served right away. The pizza was large and extremely tasty. It had a super creamy tomato sauce. We only paid 11€ (plus a 2€ tip - important!) for the lot! Great value. Will certainly revisit next time we are here.
