Apart from my Nonna's, this is the best pizza I've ever eaten! They are traditionally simple, tasty, huge and only €5 each. The staff are staff are friendly, despite being extremely busy. Dependant on what time you arrive, you should be prepared to wait quite...a while for a table (we waited just over 3 hours), but the queue is a testament to just how good the pizzas are. It's definitely worth the wait!More

The queuing system for a table (i.e. where you approach the member of staff on the door handing out tickets and are given a numbered coloured ticket and then wait for your number to be called/appear on the digital display by the door (which runs...from 1-100)) is quite antiquated and results in a hype-building, if intimidating, mass of people which spills on to the street. It is not immediately obvious how this works (due to there being a distinct line which is for take-out orders) but it is straightforward enough. The difficulty is that you will invariably have a long wait which can't easily be quantified unless you are familiar with the restaurant or have the benefit of the advice of someone who is. Whilst we waited for our number to be shown/called, the colour of the tickets changed and the wait increased by more than 100 numbers which led to a few confused patrons. We arrived around 7pm on a pleasant August Saturday and although it wasn't too much trouble to wait for over an hour (we were around 40 numbers away when we were given our ticket and waited 80 minutes), this may not be the case in adverse weather. You will also need to be prepared to stand: there were not many families with young children in a position to do so. Once inside, service was brisk and efficient and the pizzas (we had one of each) arrived quickly. A second bottle of Peroni, requested before the pizzas arrived and after the initial drinks order, failed to materialise and this led us to believe that the staff are used to turning the tables around without taking any drinks orders after the first. In our case, one of our party simply changed their mind and wanted to add a beer but it was not a big deal. The marinara was slightly more cooked than the margherita though not quite burnt and both were great examples of Neopolitan pizza with the former having a more distinctive pool forming (perhaps due to a higher oil content). The crusts were suitably charred and the sauces were fresh, rich and flavoursome. Diners at the next table were a little disheartened to learn that their requests for some garlic dip couldn't be fulfilled: it's important to appreciate what is (and, crucially, what is not) on offer here. This is a renowned institution offering classic fare on a no-frills basis for exceptional value: if you prepare for the wait and understand the menu, you won't be disappointed.More

Worth the wait and the queue. We visited here twice in our time in Napoli. We’d read online it gets busy and you need a ticket to get a table inside. Both times we visit we waited to sit inside and it was worth it....Good service with friendly happy staff. Food was amazingly priced and you can tell the freshness of all the ingredients used in the pizza. When they say it’s the best pizza they really do mean it! It is a must! Will be visiting again!More

Please help end the hype of the place. As other reviews have said you can find similar if not better pizza all across the world. We waited 2 hrs for 2 pizzas that were chewy bland and burnt. Not to mention the whole system to...pick up your pizza is antequated and annoying af. They just shout out your name over a sea of ppl and alley scooter traffic whizzing by. I hope you don't have to make a run to the toilet and miss your name being called. I'm sure this is on purpose but I don't have time for such antics. I thought I was waiting for something good. I feel tricked. Those who say this is the best must be ignorant and have not been anywhere. Help End the hype. Leave 1 star. Choose another pizzeria to patronize.More

I’m sure Naples pizza was a big deal years ago, when it was the only place you could get this kind of pizza. Now one can get this type of pizza in virtually any major city. Comparing this pizza to many other Naples- style pizza...I had before it is truly nothing special. I would say that marinara was really good marinara but margherita pizza left a lot to be desired as mozzarella was super rubbery. All in all a very average pizza. Taking into account that you have to wait for over an hour pulls down the experience even more.More

Welcome to Naples greatest sideshow attraction!! - Be Astonished by standing in a queue for 45 minutes and being witness to endless self proclaimed “foodies” taking selfies for instagram and videos for TikTok. - Marvel at how they all commentate on their selfie videos by...saying things like “oh my gosh, I can’t believe I’m in the queue for the world famous Da Michele” while faking excitement and joy so their followers can believe the lie they perpetuate on line - Gasp at the sea of faces gathered outside the shop who are almost getting run over by the traffic while they wait for their food which they can then instantly take a photo of and post online so they can tell people “they were here” - See the waiter appear with a box of pizzas and watch the eager faces of the gathered scrum change to anticipation like they are witnessing the Pope himself on his balcony, hoping the next box will be theirs. - Be Baffled by the families with young children who play in the traffic and diesel fumes while they wait a good 2 hours for a treasured table at the temple of pizza, so they can post on facebook that they ate here. - Be enthralled by the lucky few who receive their pizza and get to smash it in to their faces on the kerb of a busy road like rabid animals, so they can post on Instagram that they ate the greatest pizza known to man. Just make sure you’re here, to say you were here, so you can tell someone you went here, so they can be jealous of something, so you can feel better. The pizza was fine by the way, nothing special.More

Words can not describe… we have been staying in line 40-45 minutes before 11am… approx 100 people queuing by the time we entered. Extraordinary atmosphere, as Neapolitan it can get! Pizza, exquisite! Topical delightful rudeness of people that can deliver food at its best authenticity....A place for food lovers not pozers!More

Me and my husband went to this restaurant today and waited a lot (one hour and a half). Every minute of the wait was worth it. Make sure to take a number on your arrival, because a lot of people thought that the line was...to take the number itself. There is a line for take away too. About the pizza - amazing, cheap and veeeeery big (for me). We had a table all to ourselves. The toilet was clean. The waiter was friendly. The athmosphere was autentic, full of photos and smell of delicious Food. On your trip to Naples, make sure you go there!!! :)More

My wife and I visited Naples, Italy this summer In June. We had to try Pizzera da Michele which featured in Julia Robert’s movie Eat, Love, Pray. Putting aside that fact, the pizza was absolutely delicious, Made using da Michele’s family recipe, the thin crust...is baked in wood burning ovens with ripened tomato sauce from Naples, a very hot and dry climate and just a little mozzarella cheese. That’s it. So simple, so delicious and so affordable. Check out the photos and go and try yourself. You will not be disappointed.More

This was the best pizza we had all trip! It does require a long wait, but we were able to get a drink across the street. It is very authentic and there are only 2 styles of pizza available. Highly recommend experiencing Naples oldest pizza....Plus the cheapest meal we had all trip!!More

Roughly 1h wait, would recommend grabbing a ticket immediately and then grabbing a drink across the road. If you want to eat takeout, the bar across the road has some kind of system where you can order direct and get it delivered from the pizzeria...to your table. Pizza was very good, we tried margarita and Marita, both arrived within a minute of ordering, since we were sat next to the pizza oven. Very cheap in total, well worth the wait as well. The waiter does heavily encourage a tip which is abnormal for the restaurants we’ve been to so far in Italy.More

Pizza was superb, but we waited 2 and a hours in line! So here are my tips if u want to eat there. When u get there make sure u get a number from the staff at the entrance. DO NOT just go and stand...in line. Without number you will not get in. We got there at 12.50PM, and number on display was 63. Our number was 44, meaning had to wait till the clock went all the way around again, hence the 2 and a half hr wait. My suggestion is go get a number, then go have a drink in the bar opposite. After 20 minutes,go get a second number. Then leave and do other things. Return after and hour and a half or so and then wait outside the door. The line is for take away. The second number is there just in case you r late and miss the first call. Only 4 types of pizza offered. No options, no gluten free. Friendly service. Major CC accepted. Good luck.More

The best pizza I had in all Italy. Pizzeria da Michele is a iconic historical pizzeria, so simple yet so tasty. Visited early in the morning, there was no queue, tried one of the 3 pizza's on the menu accompanied with a Italian beer. Enjoyed...the pizza while seeing other pizza being made with love and fresh ingredients in a really old oven. Most memorable moment I have from my Naples visit.More
