We visited Sorrento in the low season and it is one of the peak restaurants open, despite that, they are surprised with their homemade pastas with seafood, very fresh and tasty. Our daughter is a vegetarian and ordered a plate of cheese ravioli and one of them came stuffed with fish. We let the waiter know and they discounted the total value of the dish and apologized for the error, which was appreciated, although our daughter I was very pleased because their ravioli were very delicious. We would definitely return

Returning from a morning stroll in the streets of Sorrento, 1:00 p.m. arrived so a small lunch was essential. We really stopped at this large terrace because it was in the shade and we were kindly received by the waiter. The interior of the restaurant is very large and nicely decorated. We wanted to eat light, I took some zucchini flowers stuffed with Ricotta which were very, very good. My husband took a braid of tightly closed and tasty mozzarella garnished with an excellent beef heart tomato from the region. In short, we ate well and the restaurant did its job.

We ate in the smaller, relaxed restaurant around the corner with the lemons hanging from the ceiling. It was a Friday night, very busy and very short on staff and we agreed to sit at the only table still available on the outside terrace even though it was getting breezy, but we were hungry and I like here. Ordered pasta with the boar ragu and a carbonara followed by a beef and potato dish to share. The pasta dishes were good and filling but we and other diners struggled to get the attention of what looked like 2 waiters serving. It was our first night so we weren't really in a rush. Lots of diners stood queued at the door then would eventually leave. We sat for over 30 minutes well after our pasta plates had been cleared and realised we probably were not getting our second course. We weren't really annoyed as it had become quite windy and chilly so thought best to head back to the hotel. Such a shame as we past a few days later early evening and it was empty.

My husband ordered a pizza. It was edible but very poor compared all the other pizzas we’ve tried in the area. However, I ordered the vermicelli with clam sauce which was a joke. I’ve never seen such tiny clams EVER. On top of that, several were sealed shut so I couldn’t even open to get to the microscopic clams inside. Then almost half of the remaining shells that were open were empty and I didn’t see any signs of the clams from those shells in my pasta. The sauce was gelatinous with no taste. I asked for Parmesan cheese in hopes to make the dish edible. While the waiter was very gracious in bringing the cheese, it was still horrible. To make matters worse, the restaurant charges a 3 euro surcharge per person. Too many wonderful restaurants in the area to waste your time or money here.

Upon a late arrival at Sorrento we grabbed a table at this restaurant meeting up with 2 family members who’d arrived earlier. As they had already eaten and were only having drinks. We were served by an older man who became incredibly rude bordering on aggressive when we all ordered drinks and my husband and myself ordered a pizza and bowl of fries. He kept hissing at us only this for 4 people even though we kept saying the other 2 had eaten earlier. There wasn’t a line to get in and there were several empty tables, which should have been a warning as this is the height of Sorrento Summer. He stormed off and my daughter could see him over my shoulder gesturing at us and motioning to another staff member to get rid of us which the other guy calmed him down. I wish we had of got up and left then. We ordered a couple of drinks and dessert and coffee. You’d think that would have appeased them - Nope. When we got the bill I had an instinct to check which I don’t normally feel the need to do. There was a 40 Euro charge with the evasive ‘vino’ I could see all the other drinks listed and my husband questioned the ‘Vino’ charge at which the waiter immediately said oh sorry that was from another table I will remove. Nice try!!! No we didn’t order 4 Mains but we ordered plenty of other stuff which still came to 134 Euro. Oh on a side note the pizza was undercooked and watery there are far better and friendlier places to eat in Sorrento. Some of which we were repeat customers of.

Absolutely horrific treatment by one server in particular. We witnessed 3 other surrounding tables, some of larger parties who had arrived after us, all be served their food while we waited more than an hour after ordering. After we finally ate, we asked if our wait would be considered and the service tax be removed. This was rudely reacted to by our server who gave a beautifully patronising tone and said “You eat, you pay, you leave. Bye bye”. After we explained our frustration he then informed us “that’s not how it works here”. It may be of interest that our group consisted of young women, which I would imagine had a significant impact on the patronising nature we faced. Appalling service. Avoid.

My husband and I visited ‘La Basilica’ for the first time this evening after spending a few nights in Sorrento. To say I am appalled is an understatement. We both can agree that our food was tasty but we can also agree that there are better spots in Sorrento which would be more worthwhile. I felt that our portions were small in size and we were waiting for quite some time both for our order to be taken and our food to be served. However the reason I give a one star review is due to the small amount of space between tables which enabled my husband and I to overhear a particularly unpleasant encounter between 2 members of staff and a young girl. There were four young ladies at the table next to us who had been seated and been served drinks before our arrival. We ordered and were served before them, despite only two of the four eating. One of the girls got the waiter’s attention. When she went to pay, two of the servers dealt with her and her request to have something taken off the bill, she requested to have the €4 comperto charge removed. To this her waiter responded in what I can only describe as a patronising and incredibly dismissive tone. He claimed “you eat, you pay, you leave”. He went on to behave in an unprofessional manner which will deter me from returning to this restaurant and recommending it to my friends. There are plenty of spots in Sorrento where you can receive excellent food complimented by excellent service so do not waste your time at this restaurant.

Gentleman outside very keen to get you into the restaurant, once in the customer service was poor at best and we was basically ignored until we ask for something. I had a pizza that was covered in grease and some of what I think was meant to be ham, it didn’t taste of anything, had big lumps of bone in it. There’s many far better restaurants in Sorrento so go to this one at your own rush

We thought that all pizzeria in Sorrento would offer a decent pizza and chose this restaurant because it was in a nice location. How wrong we were! The meal started well, with a friendly waiter and a very nice shared starter of fiori di zucca. The waiter decided the portion was too small and gave us a second portion on the house. So far so good. We had ordered pizzas and these came quite quickly but were really poor, with an almost liquid base. I guess the oven was not up to temperature and the pizzas were served on cold plates that allowed condensation. Anyway, although the toppings were OK, the experience was quite disgusting. As we tried to pay, the first card was refused and so we used a second that worked. The waitress was very rude and dismissive. A fitting end to a horrible experience. There are so many nice places in Sorrento but this is a place to avoid.

Beguiled by the smart appearance and the urging of the nice ‘greeter’ at the door, we ventured in. And that's when things started to go wrong. We were shown to a table and sat down only to be told brusqely by a very ‘large’ (not muscle) head waiter to move to another table. Ok, fair enough but we’re still not sure why. We asked for two aperitifs to start with whilst we studied the menu and the wine list. We placed our order for food with a glass of wine each and waited for our two aperitifs. No sign. The wine turned up and then the food - and then the aperitifs. Ok, a bit disappointing but these things happen. Well, the food. I order penne carbonara with bacon. It was practically inedible - just a glutinous mess of pasta, with the sauce sticking it all together like glue. It has a few bits of bacon rind mixed in (I counted eight very small pieces) and, despite being hungry, I could only eat a few mouthfuls. My wife had belly of pork and it arrived looking nothing like the photo on the menu (the one below). It was practically all fat and she was forced to leave most of it. Why didn't we send it back? Good question. We were struck by the anxiety of the staff, there was no joy in what they were doing. The source of their anxiety seemed to be the very ‘large’ head waiter, who dominated the place. He even barged passed my chair at one point, nearly knocking me of it. I turned to see if he was going to apologise but, no, he was on a mission to chastise a member of staff at the back of the restaurant. We were not in the mood for a confrontation and there was a bad vibe about the place, so we voted with our feet and left (after leaving a small tip, as I felt sorry for the staff). I was going to give it two stars initially but then the stomach aches started about 2 am and I've been in and out of the bathroom ever since. Ok, it may not be connected - but I think it is. To summarise, I would urge the Owners of this restaurant to conduct an urgent review of standards in the kitchen and front of house. But don’t let this put you off Sorrento - it’s a beautiful place and we will come back. It was just bad luck.

Food was above average, we ordered pizza and grilled vegetables with some drinks. Service was poor at best, we had to ask for bread which arrived after the meal and no sign of the drinks at all. We asked for the bill minus the drinks we never saw. The waiter was curt with no apologies at all. Better options around.

It was only possible to sit outside despite the room being empty - I didn't understand exactly why. The food was quite ok in cost, but the taste left something to be desired when compared to other restaurants I went to in Italy. The truffle risotto didn't have much taste and the shrimp pasta was very salty.

Absolutely fantastic food and service! We started with a fresh salad and the breaded prawns. Very tasty. My wife ordered the osso Bucco and I ordered the soft beef. Wow!! So delicious and the presentation was exceptional. Both were cooked and flavoured to perfection. For dessert I had the lemon delight and omg it was incredible. My wife had the chocolate mouse and she loved it . Definitely our best meal in Italy and perhaps ever. I cannot say enough about this restaurant if you don’t go here you will miss out on one of life’s greatest culinary and service experiences.

We were in Italy for 3 weeks and this was the worst meal and service we had. It was late and our family was very hungry from travelling. No one wanted to wait in lines, however, when we passed this place, there were tables available to accommodate 10 of us. We were separated —- 6 one table and 4 at another table—- in different sections with different waiters. The 4 at one table had a younger waiter, who was great, and really enjoyed their pizza. The 6 of us at the other table had an older, very grumpy, waiter who seemed very annoyed to be serving us (4 adults, 1 teen and 1 kid). We all ordered food. I never thought we would eat terrible lasagna in Italy, but we did. The eggplant was ok. I ate it with bread. The wine was good. Unfortunately, this meal stands out in our minds as the least favourite. I wish I could tell you different and I hope your experience will be much more pleasant than ours.

Had a fabulous dinner served by our lovely waiter Giuseppe. He was so friendly and gave us great suggestions. The stuffed zucchini flowers were delicious and my ravioli was cooked to perfection. My husband loved his tuna tartare and the lobster pasta was tasty and not too rich. To top it off, the restaurant’s lemon decor makes you feel like you are in a lemon grove. So beautiful!
