This is a simple restaurant but the young people working there are geniuses. The pains they take to provide exactly what the customers in the restaurant desire, are disproportionate to the cost of the food - which is really reasonable. Excellent food courteously and competently served. Would I go there again if I find myself in Matera? Oh yes!

This wonderful restaurant not only serves the best food we found in the Caveoso Sassi district, but also has an ethical approach to be admired. The restaurant is situated in one of the Sassi, the caves directly off the main way through Caveoso. It serves the best of the local Cucina Povera, once regarded as poor food, now we are... More

Visited for a light sunday evening meal, chosen as we were staying locally and it looked bright and inviting and we were very happy with our choice. Despite our waitress (who I think could be the owner / manager) saying she had very little English, she was was absolutely brilliant, incredibly friendly and patient, explaining about their ethos for ingredients... Different place to eat as they don't serve pasta or pizza. The beans were very good, as well as the buschetta and panecotto. They had run out of some ingredients but we were able to make it work. Olive oil was good.

I have heard it said that it is imposible to have a bad meal in Italy. Just go to Panecotto in Matera and you will see that adage is wrong. Half of the menu is soup. Homemade right- WRONG. Canned soup and not even totally warmed up. Terrible service. UGH

Tasty and simple food, set in a beautifully restored cave, served by friendly staff. We headed for this little place for a light supper with the children after a busy day. Try the local beer , it's delicious .

We came to this restaurant after a long walk and didnt find any restaurants half as intriguing. This restaurant has somewhat different type menu where they mainly serve bruchetta, soup and small eats. We overhead the owner took painstaking effort to forewarn incoming customers that they dont serve pasta :) Anyway, we were greeted with bread with unbelievably sumptuous olive... More

Not to be missed. Flavors and aromas of Basilicata served on one of the most delicious breads of Italy.

Easy casual eating, lovely service and a modern renovation of a typical cave like space: a delight to the eye and the taste buds! service with a smile and wonderful products. Here I had my first dried quick fried peppers, which they put on the table instead of bread. We were serviced one of the best legume based soups here... More

We enjoyed simple home made soups - very flavoursome - with a generous plate of local salami and other cold meats. Fantastic bread. The owner recommended an excellent glass of red wine to accompany this lunch-time feast. Friendly and v high quality. Perfect for a light meal.
