A real gastronomic gem! Someone from Matera recommended us L’Arturo as a place where you can experience local food and we were not disappointed. Warm welcoming host with clear passion for local food heritage, excellent atmosphere and fantastic wine selection.

Tired and damp after walking up the main street in Matera in the rain in search of a lunchtime snack bar, rather than a restaurant offering several courses, we came across Bar L'Arturo. It is small but the jazzy music created a good atmosphere. Only...two types of sandwich were available (we'd call them baps in the UK) at the time, both containing meat, but the server - presumably the owner - was more than happy to make a vegetarian version for my wife from the ingredients available. They were excellent. He spoke very good English and was friendly and helpful and also has a b and b in the town if you are looking for somewhere to stay.More

We had just arrived in Matera and had no idea where to eat. We happened upon this restaurant after a suggestion from our hotel receptionist. The yound lady behind the counter was very pleasant and helpful, since I had no idea what to order for...myself. My wife is an Italian, so I had help from both of them. I selected a focaccia with carmelized onions and chesse and a legume soup. My wife chose the bean soup. They provided bread with the soups. All this was more than enough for two people. The taste of everything was excellent, And I especially appreciated that the food was not overly salty. There was just enough. I had a beer and a lemon soda (panachè) and my wife a water. All this for 24euro. Upon leaving, I noticed that they had several Christmas tree ornaments hanging around the counter. I asked if they had some for sale, and unfortunately no. The next thing I know, she took one down and gave it to me. We always try to buy Christmas ornaments for our tree, rather than stale, store bought ones. It's already on the tree.More

An awful place. Consider tha one of the musts in Matera is bread. At Arturo they served us bread, probably sliced 2 days before, hardened and tasteless. We went there for a Tagliere, a plate of salami and Cheese and a beer. We had to...ask for nifes to peel the cheese, then we had to ask for the glass for the beer, then we had to ask for napkins. I am sure you will find better.More

Great little place for fast lunch, we had sandwiches and soup (I think it was heated from a jar?), both were excellent. My soup was on another level.... See pic! Fresh bread, and a couple coke zeros. They key here: order first, then sit down,...or have your significant other save a table while you , it's pretty busy. Awesome service, great English, owner will help you figure out what to put in the sandwich! 16E for everything.More

We went here for lunch and made a decision to take a plate with grilled vegetables and some bread with olive cream. It was really delicious, the stuff is helpful and kind and they offer great beers too. Absolutely recommended. Not fancy, not pricey.

Super option for a casual lunch in Matera. We enjoyed a lunch option that allowed us to sit down yet still arrange for ourselves a casual meal. They seem to focus mainly on charcuterie boards, salads, light sandwiches. Prices are very reasonable and staff are...friendly. A lot of care goes into the food here. Lovely!More

Good local wine L’Arturo Negroamaro. The fava e cicola is delicious as is the zucchini pie. The missed salad was very large. The do a very nice looking cheese, meat or mixed platter and service is good. You couldn’t go wrong by eating here.

Found this little gem by accident when the recommended restaurant we planned on going to was closed. Sat at their little street side chairs and tables. Loved the food, great portions and price. Lovely staff. We had meat and cheese platter, caprese salads and paninis...with some cold beer and spritz.More

This little trattoria is the perfect place to have lunch in Matera: it’s very central and has space inside and out. The menu is simple yet has all the options you need. The plates are only local products (cheese, bread, ham...) and very generous. Delicious...delicious!More
