I have been to over 25 cities and towns in Italy and this has been my best meal both times. Fabulous staff, wonderful owner and chef that is at the top of his game. The views of ancient Sassi and the food make this place a must. Cannot wait for our next visit. Kid friendly and English speaking!!

Great cave restaurant, and very pleasant owner, who was kind enough to find a seat for 4 of us for lunch on a National Holiday. The staff was wonderful, the food excellent, the ambience unmatchable. Ate with lots of locals and had a great time.

We had a lovely walk around town following one of the tourist routes and ended up here at lunchtime. Nice outside seating and big restaurant inside as well. Very clean. Hardly any English spoken which caused a bit of a muddle with the ordering but food was very good. Waiter wasn't very friendly but we have found that in a... More

We stayed in one of their rooms carved out of the rock as was our bathroom. We were very comfortable and so enjoyed staying in a genuine Sassi habitation. The ristorante was next to our room where we ate well and were well looked after. Very friendly.

Went here in the blazing heat with a view to check it out for possible dinner this eve or day after and tried to buy a bottle of water for 1 euro. Only had a 20 euro note and the man didn't have change and didn't even offer me a glass of water when he could see I was a... More

Our main reason for choosing this restaurant was to cool down from 40C temperature. So glad we did and our only disappoint was that we wanted a light lunch. The food selection caused confusion as we picked from anti pasta, pasta and mains instead of going through each coarse but all prepared and presented as we wanted. Definitely would come... More

Had a super lunch here on a very hot afternoon visiting Matera. We weren't quite sure when we first arrived as the menu was a little limited but our doubts were cast aside by the great, fresh pasta dishes the chef produced. We'd recommend the melanzane parmigiana and the fresh pasta with pomodoro, rucola and cheese. Give it a try,... More

Excellent food, very sophisticated menu and very nice atmosphere. If someone wants to experience the Italian cuisine in Matera, then this is the place!

This restaurant may fool you because is part of the hotel but... I found it one of the best in Matera! The Chef is an artist, you can see him work from your seat and you can tell he knows his business. The waiter is most gentle. For breakfast you will enjoy an array of sweets made by the chef... Southern Italian gastronomy is distinctive for its different flavors, frequently mixing together vegetables, spices, meat and past to build a completely new taste. Taste is exactly what this restaurant lacks. It's really nice, hosted into a "sasso", an old house digged into the soft rock. Nice furniture, nice lights, good atmosphere. But the food is much more like an hospital... More
