Fantastic

It’s a tiny gem in the center, with delicious food and fantastic staff! My wife and I both got “Puccia vegetariana” and the friendly lady that was taking our order, suggest without hesitation to make them a little different so that we have two variations. It’s little things like that, that make the difference. Highly recommend!!!

Delicious!!!

The personal were so friendly, they speak English and explain the menu if you have any doubt. There is also a weekly recommended pizza out of the menu. We order two pizza Margherita and there were delicious, every ingredient tasted so fresh and the pizza mass was very soft. I highly recommend this place!

Really delicious pizza

Not sure about the concept of "best ever"when it comes to pizza but we went to Il Rusticone last week and the pizza was absolutely delicious, really outstanding. I can't recommend it highly enough. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable and fun. Not many tables as has been noted elsewhere but one can have a glass of wine indoors whilst waiting. Imagine it gets extremely busy in high season so maybe go early, 8-ish or after ten?

Terrible and dishonest

Terrible. Went here for dinner based on the review but we were very disappointed! My son and I order a pizza each and both had a lovely base ring but the rest was very soggy. My prosciutto Crudo was so salty I mostly had the cheese and the sides. My son didn’t enjoy his prosciutto e fungi either. To make thing worse, my son needed the toilet and the chef claimed they didn’t have one. I could tell he was lying I just don’t know why! What kind of sit down eatery doesn’t have access to a toilet? We’ve been travelling around Italy for a week and small places that might not have a toilet on their premises always have access to one near by. Needless to say we had to leave our terrible food and half drunk drink and go look for a toilet. Not sure how this place got so many good reviews!

High Quality Casual Eating

This is a really good place for a casual dinner. It isn't somewhere to have a long sit in meal. My girlfriend and I went there after a long day and were really happy. The menu is mainly pizzas and beer but the level of quality is way above what I am normally used to. I had a pizza with prosciutto ham and an Imperial beer. Both were excellent and I was pleasantly surprised with how nice the meal was. It was probably the nicest pizza I can remember having. There was a good busy atmosphere around the restaurant. There were a lot of people coming and going, we were lucky to get a seat on some stools. The owner's child popped in and walked straight into the kitchen to say hello to all the staff in there. We could hear the friendly/ casual banter between the staff. We were glad we went as we could see lots of people around Matera with the Il Rusticone pizza boxes and wondered what all the fuss was about. We weren't disappointed

Great pizza, great value and the delightful Marianne

I have been to Italy many times and before I went people always talk about the delicious pizzas. Well after years of eating Italian pizza I have now found the best place to eat pizza in Italy. I had the parmanesn pizza. It was so tasty that I rang my wife to come down to to the restaurant and try it out So tasty and great value served to me by the delightful Marianne. Well worth a visit and easy to see why it has good reviews. 5 ⭐

Quick bite to eat

Found this place on our 1st day in Matera and went back a further 2 times. For us it was perfect to stop for 20 mins and have a quick bite to eat and drink. Choice is limited but enough, place is small, 8 stalls inside and about 4 tables outside. For me it’s a perfect ‘pit stop’ with little fuss and good food.

The best pizza in Italy !!

This restaurant has the best pizza I have tried, the dough is perfect and the local produce is amazing. The woman who served us was so welcoming and the service was incredible. I would recommend to anyone. Grazie Mille for a wonderful time.

Delicious, tasty and reasonably priced

Although I personally wish that I had chosen a different pizza (I chose one with too many cheeses and it was a bit overwhelming) my husband and sons who picked more typical pizzas loved this place and wanted to go back repeatedly. Delicious and good value for money. Also very well located

Fabulous casual dining

We waited for a table (only 4 outside) at this little place and were glad that we did! The sandwiches, one veggie and one with meat, were delicious, as were the pizza and salad. Not thrilled with the wine, but that was minor. As busy as they were, the help were all pleasant and efficient.

Sandwiches Italian style

My friend and I tried the vegetarian pucce and the capocola and local cheese with lettuce and tomato pucce. Loved the cheese and capacola one but not so much the vegetarian which didn’t have the same flavour. The wine, red Primitivo, was delicious. Service was fast and we had a pleasant server. This place is really small. There are only 4 tables providing seating outdoors and no seating indoors. Also no bathroom…need to go to the neighbouring restaurant.

Amazing Pizzeria in Matera!

I had just arrived in Matera and had not eaten all day. I had two amazing pizzas at this pizzeria and a bottle of red wine chosen by the hostess. Small but very friendly space. Best pizzas that I have ever had. Please stop at this spot and you’ll not be disappointed.

It really exists

Now "Il Rusticone" is #1 in Matera. Kudos! Well deserved. A tiny place, jut a few bar stools and then the food... We tasted various pucci and it is out of this world. So we ordered a second one! Veronica is a one-woman show. So nice, so efficient, so patient. And the prices, so democratic. I wish any restaurant (in the world) would take example of "Il Rusticone": our life would be so much agreeable.

Wonderful food and service!

The food was delicious, price was ok. We took pizza & „Puccia” (both were great). The service was amazing, so nice and helpful with choosing dishes. It’s a great place to eat good food with a good price :)

Amazing Puccia!

We stopped by for quick lunch, the puccia is really really good. We shared two for three people, the portions are well sized. Friendly service, good, simple food from quality incredients. There are a lot of over-prices tourist places in Matera, this is something else.
