On our first night in Madrid, we were searching for a late night intimate romantic spot close to the centre of town. Although it was on a quite street and not easy to find, we were delighted to meet Isabel and Pilar, the 2 sisters that have run this incredible little restaurant that had the romantic atmosphere we were seeking.... We visited Algarabia twice in late September during a tour of Spain and simply loved it. This small charming restaurant is run by two delightful ladies from Rioja. Isabel looks after the diners while her sister Pilar cooks. Each guest is treated like a member of the family. Among the highlights was the wonderful slow-cooked oxtail. Take Isabel’s advice and... We loved celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in this quaint, friendly, excellent food restaurant. It felt romantic, intimate, quiet, and the prices were great. The two sisters who own Algarabia could not have been nicer and more welcoming. We would go back and tell others to go as well.

Warm welcoming host and lovely home cooked traditional food. A lovely experience and very romantic. It was like having an eager aunt fuss over us, loved everything about this place.

We came here for our anniversary and it was easily the highlight of a day filled with activities. The food is traditional, yet not boring; with modern touches without being pretentious. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. Worth mentioning is the setting. Elegant, yet very comfortable. It feels as though you're eating at a good friend's home. This is largely... More

The reviews in tripadvisor kept us wondering about what to expect. Ambiance was initially very different. Very quiet. The food was excellent and better than any other dish we had in Madrid. Our 8 year old daughter also enjoyed the food and experience. It was not cheap but value for your money. A truly memorable night.

This was the best dining experience that i have ever had!!. The restaurant is run by two sisters , who welcome you into their home. It is very intimate with limited seating, i felt like i was dining with family.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. Very cozy and we felt as if we were in someone's house. We chose the following: asparagus in pastry lightly fried, sardines in a light tomato sauce with pistachios, cod in tomato sauce, and a house specialty, braised pork, braised and slightly blackened. Dessert was a lovely dark chocolate raspberry cake as well as an... More

Thank you very much for your review. We know that the important thing in a restaurant is the food, but we like to talk to our customers of other things to learn. We are very curious. Isabel y Pilar More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
