Fine modern bar .Could almost be a cocktail lounge .We had a great meal here with good wine .Mixed with a Tapas bar area,so the lads can have a beer and watch the football.

On our last night in Madrid, we decided to try this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and we didn't really want to go that far. No one recommended this but this was the best discovery of the night. We all ordered seafood paella with the housewife - and we loved it! The whole experience was made better... More

It is a very well placed friendly restaurant in a side street off Plaza de Espana. It seems mainly used by locals and my several visits have always been happy one. The food is homy and unpretentious, ranging from large refreshing salads too thick and juicy beef filet! The bread is wonderful... The decoration makes you feel at home with... More

Leaving Museo Cerraldo and walking up the street towards Princesa I discovered this smart place and strolled in looking for a cold beer as it was not time to have lunch. I was served and with my drink came two portions of tapas both very tasty and delayed my hunger pangs until much later. I felt the place would be... More

Nice place near Plaza Espana where you can eat quite resonable prices. The best option will be menu of day, regarding price, served only at noon. English menu can be provided on request.

We had dinner at Cascaras just this week (april 2012) and it was great! The food was very good and it was definitely not expensive. I took a little folder of the restaurant with me and although it is in Spanish it might give an idea of the prices: PLATOS VEGETARIANOS: Berenjena reliena 9,60; Rollitos vegetarianos 8,90; Tarta de puerros... Locals, not tourists, frequented this place all day long - from early morning pastries and coffee to mid day meals and late day tapas. We ate here 3 times during our stay in Madrid and enjoyed all the entrees and tapas.

This is classical Madrid's breakfast offer set in a modern restaurant instead of a classic spanish diner. It's practically self-service, you order and pick up your food and drink at the counter. The coffee was great and tortilla espagnol was nice, although a bit cold. They also have menu del dia, but we did not try it. Strongly recommended!

Went here for lunch as it's right opposite the Mercure Plaza De Espana. We both had very nice vegetarian food from a wide choice on the menu. Food was freshly cooked and good value at around €9 a main.

Staying in Arguelles

Neighborhood Profile
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
