Sensational traditional Spanish restaurant not to be missed. Friendly and efficient staff. Extensive menu, lots of local delicacies. Portions huge! Food quality tremendous. Located in great area to explore. More

We had an incredible meal here. We went with friends from Madrid who go there regularly and know the owners well, so we received excellent service, though I'm sure we'd have had the same even if we'd been alone. The cuisine was outstanding and the portions generous. It was the best "oreja" I've ever had (though I appreciate that might... More

My friend and I dined here the other night before doing a Tour starting in Plaza Mayor. We were able to book a table online which is always a big bonus for us and so convenient. I arrived a few minutes before the reservation and the staff were friendly and the table was ready. They served us in a timely... More

It is located in a very crowed and dirty plaza. We love Spanish food and have been in Spain more than 5 times. This is probably the worst restaurant we have experienced in Spain. The food is greasy and service is very poor. Stay away!

We actually ate here twice, once for bar tapas on the ground floor and the second time for dinner upstairs. This place is quite okay although the service at first was not that perfect. Once your order gets rolling the service became better. We actually didn't come here for the suckling pig but when we asked the waiter what would... More

The restaurant was recommended by our hotel and a group of 9 of us went from a business conference. The ambience was pleasant. The streets outside were heaving, as the Christmas market in adjacent Plaza Major was in full swing and there were massive queues for food takeaway/ shops across the lane, so a bit of a tussle to get... The restaurant is adorable and located at Plaza Mayor. Honestly, the ambience is great. The grappa is wonderful to drink. The food was just okay. The reason the the poor score is the suckling pig I ordered. I had heard that Madrid was famous for this dish. When it arrived I began to eat and thought wow this is almost... More

I was there on November 11th with my youngest daughter to have paella and it was very good. We could sit outside on the terras with heaters to warm us. We had a great faustino white wine with the paella and it was all very good. After dinner we got free drinks, kind of grappa. All in all. Ot expensive... More

Los Galayos has been in business since 1894. The food an wine was excellent. Especially the Spanish omelet with potatoes. Make sure to see the caves below.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
