The restaurant is adorable and located at Plaza Mayor. Honestly, the ambience is great. The grappa is wonderful to drink. The food was just okay. The reason the the poor score is the suckling pig I ordered. I had heard that Madrid was famous for this dish. When it arrived I began to eat and thought wow this is almost... More

Sensational traditional Spanish restaurant not to be missed. Friendly and efficient staff. Extensive menu, lots of local delicacies. Portions huge! Food quality tremendous. Located in great area to explore.

I was there on November 11th with my youngest daughter to have paella and it was very good. We could sit outside on the terras with heaters to warm us. We had a great faustino white wine with the paella and it was all very good. After dinner we got free drinks, kind of grappa. All in all. Ot expensive... More

Los Galayos has been in business since 1894. The food an wine was excellent. Especially the Spanish omelet with potatoes. Make sure to see the caves below.

We went as it was recommended by our hotel. Several dishes were served lukewarm...ie seafood soup and, believe it or not, my warm steak, on a cold plate, with fairly cold potatoes. I ordered a sirloin steak, the only cut on the menu to come with the cheese sauce, but got a fillet...now, when I order a sirloin, I want... More

We were in a group of 10 and had a great evening meal at this great restaurant. We had excellent starters and a truly memorable roast suckling pig and a decent paella.

The weather was pleasant enough to eat outside. Rather than order directly from the menu, we ordered butt-loads of appetizers followed by lamb and sucking pig (of course). This place is reknown for roast pork, and for good reason. Crisp outer skin covers some of the best roast pork you will ever order. The service was spot on the first... More

We visited this restaurant with another couple nice classic setting next to the Plaza Mayor, service was good especially from the regular waiters not that much from the captain that was a little bit like teaching us. Good beef pieces a bit overcooked but soft and lots of flavor, good selection of wines and at the end the complimentary "chupitos"... More

We had the opportunity to come to Los Galayos for dinner and it was amazing. The owner specifically took care of us and made our meal so delicious. We got the GJ and tonics which they make right in front of you with dry ice!! It was the best gin and tonics we have ever had. So fresh and so... More

We chose this restaurant as we had seen online that it had excellent suckling pig. My fiancé and I both chose the suckling pig. When our dish arrived I received the ribs and my fiancé received the leg. Both are very contrasting types of meat as the leg is lovely and full of meat, however, the ribs are pure fat... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
