From Azagra they came and Madrid they conquered. Their weapons: exquisite regional produce, meats and fish, accompanied by friendly, respectful and professional service. Go for whatever you prefer from the menu... For us, favorites are the Pimientos de Cristal,( roasted red peppers) the Anchoas de Santoña, ( anchovies from Santoña) the Sesos a la Romana,( fried small lamb brains) and... More

This was lunch for 9 of us to celebrate a friend's landmark wedding anniversary. A very minimalist restaurant in terms of decor, nothing to obstruct attention so one can enjoy wonderful simple preparaton of their food. The husband and wife owners were kind and gracious and made some good suggestions as to what to try. The veggie offerings were superb... More

Very good service. The atmosphere is pretty classy but not snobbish Every dish was prepared with attention to details. Quality of the ingredients used was top notch The things I liked the most were the amazing selection of appetizers and the use they can make of vegetables.

Had an amazing dinner here, with exquisite fresh vegetables prepared excellently. Owners suggested splitting artichoke order into 1/2 fried & 1/2 boiled. They were so tasty as was the white asparagus. The lamb brain was an unusual but delicious taste. Owners were very friendly & helpful. Well worth the price.

like being welcomed into a (super trendy) family house. Brilliantly selected ingredients perfectly but simply presented. Somehow sliced tomatoes in oil blow the doors off. Boiled and fried artichokes each unmissable. Take the wine recommendations. In fact take all the staff's recommendations they know what they're doing. Can't wait for my second visit. PS the meat and fish was also... More

This restaurant is in the bohemiam Chueca area of Madrid, just north of Sol, which is the centre of the universe for most Madrilenos. My wife and I had a superb dinner consisting of white asparagus for her and artichokes for me as starters and the best Sea Bass we have ever eaten for our main courses. We washed it... More

This restaurant is an original concept in Madrid. The owners attend to all of their guest and the vegetables they bring daily from their family owned farm in Navarra. We were surprised that their wine list is so affordable. They seel the table wine at cost, not sure how they do that but it is terrific. The pimientos cristales are... More

A friend introduced me to this restaurant, and it was well worth it! The atmosphere is very classy and relaxing - very conducive for a quiet evening and good conversation. The owners personally describe the menu and give excellent suggestions. We had an all-vegetarian meal, with artichokes prepared in various ways (fried as well as steamed), cardos (cardoons?), and scrambled... More

I chose this restaurant to celebrate my friends engagement and it didnt let me down. It's quite smart, with a stylish minimal look, but the owner couldn't be more friendly and charming. As everyone on here mentions, the food is simple but exquisite. We chose the recommended dishes and were delighted with everything.

When in Spain eat where the Spanish eat and this is a great Spanish restaurant serving the very finest Iberian ingredients. If you love fresh fish, great steak and wonderful seasonal vegetables served in a stylish yet convivial atmosphere then this is well worth a visit. From the intense sweetness of the simply roasted red peppers, artichokes and the freshest... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
