We went here as a special treat on our last night and were not disappointed. If you want a first class plate of Paella, in a very smart and civilised restaurant with lovely staff and very efficient service then then La Barraca is perfect - it is a s simple as that!

We had such a wonderful time in this restaurant! Paella is quite cheap and extremely good: I chose the reina de mariscos and was rich and tasty, but mixta and valenciana (chosen by some of my friends) were great, too. And you have to try their sangria! We were a group of ten girls and really appreciated the kindness and... More

It’s an elegant restaurant with classical food service. They are famous by their savory paella dishes. We had try tripe stew as well and it was delicious. (and taste-wise very close to Hungarian way of cooking and seasoning tripe stew, so we enjoyed so much) . We recommend to taste their homemade sangria served chilled in a huge pitcher. Better... We wanted to eat paella during our stay in Madrid, so we came out on this restaurant. Our first attempt without reservation was a mistake, so we went back the second day after taking a reservation. We ordered Paella La Barraca mixed. This was a good choice, it was very tastefull. The staff is friendly and helpfull in English. We... More

Lovely food. Very friendly staff. Mixed seafood paella was really really nice. Even the bread with the garlic mayo as side starter was great. Very reasonably priced for location and setting and overall quality. Gets a strong recommend from me.

Good Paella. Food was served in a timely and professional manner. However, the staff seemed less than genuine. It is definitely a place which caters to tourists. A good part of the the focus was clearly on turning tables.

Nice place and if you want to sit in the first room with beautiful plates on the wall, consider to make a reservation. Service is quite attentive in Spain standard as you need a lot of help and since most visitors will be ordering paella, they assign a lady in each room just to divide up food in individual plates... Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
