One of the most famous and classic restaurants in Madrid. Everything as per my expectations, from service, atmosphere to food quality. Reccomended.

We went 3 of us. Each had different starters. All of them super. Gazpacho excellent. I had sea urchins with a sauce : "out of this world". Then I had pigeon also super super !! elegant, fine well cooked. Really I enjoyed this restaurant. I think is still one of the best places in Madrid. My friends had eggs with... More

This is fine dining at its finest. If you appreciate discreet attentive service, food carefully prepared, in a refined and dignified setting ( no piped in music), then this is he place for you. Traditional preparations mean rich sauces. The fois gras was superb. So was the hake. Sole was less satisfying. Artichoke hearts and asparagus in a broth was... More

We opted for the menu giving us a good impression accross the selection of dishes within the Zalacain. The food was delicious. As for the wine, a Pago de Arinzano rounded off the meal. Everybody does an excellent job. The very friendly and skilled sommelier reminded me, in appearance and behaviour, of the French actor Kad Merad in "Bienvenue chez... More

This is really a unique experience, from what I could see it is a big old house which each room converted into a dining room. The service is quite formal but still manages to be warm and friendly. The sommelier was a master sommelier and when he spoke about wine, it sounded like poetry. He just came to us and... More

We came here because it seemed like upscale traditional Spanish cuisine. The decor was very bright and tasteful. The staff seemed friendly though after we ordered they kind of disappeared into the maze of rooms. We were also seated next to a table of older children, which was loud at times and also a bit strange. The food as really... More

Need a coat and tie to enter --- that tells you the whole story. This is a classic. Fashion has passed it by and Michelin has dropped all three stars, but little has changed. The staff hsve been all over Europe to add some modern dishes to the menu. But every dish is a masterpiece.

Excellent food in a classic environment full of class. Great service putting attention to each and every detail. I forgot my tie and had to borrow one, later a colleague brought one on mine, then everything was in order.

A Classic restaurant in Madrid for more than 5 decades. Great service and a large wine list. Expect price per person with an average wine of 90€

I first went to Zalacain in the late Eighties when this restaurant was a Michelin 3 star. The only one in Spain. It lost 2 stars in 1995 and has never gained them back. I thought at the time that Zalacain was highly overrated and Michelin finally agreed. The restaurant is quite attractive, but it lacks that din, or buzz... More
