It was New Years Eve and places were closing all around. When we tried the door to El Buey and it was open we breathed a sigh of relief. I know the waiter was probably thinking about going home for the holiday but he did not let us think any such thing. He told us how we should order the... More

I have to say the meat is just AMAZING! It's pricey but worth every bite. My negative point is on the service because from the moment I advised the waiter we were note having any starters, just the main course, his face changed from day to night in a second. He was not longer professional throughout the evening. If it... More

Our friend Tim brought us here and we feasted on Ox! They bring it out raw and you cook it on hot ceramic plates the place in front of you. Fun, interactive and amazingly tasty meat. Never had Ox before. Basically tastes like beef. Can't really speak to anything else on the menu and we focused almost all our attention... More

We came here after recommendation of Spanish friends. The place was off the beaten path and definitely meant for Madrilenos, not tourists. After a few minutes walking around the "Goya" metro-station and asking for directions, we were able to find this 10-table gem, with a wooden facade and a red bull's head hanging on the wall - Yes, a bull's... For me it is a comeback to this restaurant. El Buey remains a very good restaurant. The meat is excellent and the service efficient and friendly. After 17 years, always deserves a new periodic visit. The space is small but very comfortable and familiar.

This is one of my favorite spots for a casual dinner and, particularly, for eating beef cooked on a ceramic hot plate in your table. A bit pricy but excellent quality. Will continue coming!

The place looks very typical, waiters are nice and kind and the atmosphere is pretty informal. The food is basically simple, like the "tomate tartara" and the veggie tempura as starters, but the taste is extremely good. As I mentioned, the beef is the main dish you have to try, is served so that you can cook it yourself on... More

We came here as a small group for dinner. The place doesn't open until 9pm, but fills up pretty quickly. We ordered the beef tenderlion, french fries, salad, and the house red wine, which was very good. You order your meat, by the kilo and they bring it out to you thinly sliced and raw. You receive a hot coaster... More

A very local restaurant hiding in a small lane. We followed tripadvisor finding this place. Good service though English is not very good, but with lots of body language we communicated well. The best part is the beef, you can cook the way you like, and it is big portion. We all very happy to have this one to wrap... More

We came to el Buey with a group of friends. There were 6 of us and we had a couple of starters (the foie and the ensaladilla rusa, both really good) and to share we had 2Kg of Buey a la piedra with a couple of raciones de patatas fritas. For dessert some of us had raspberries with cream, it... More

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
