This is one of my favorite spots for a casual dinner and, particularly, for eating beef cooked on a ceramic hot plate in your table. A bit pricy but excellent quality. Will continue coming!

The place looks very typical, waiters are nice and kind and the atmosphere is pretty informal. The food is basically simple, like the "tomate tartara" and the veggie tempura as starters, but the taste is extremely good. As I mentioned, the beef is the main dish you have to try, is served so that you can cook it yourself on... More

We came here as a small group for dinner. The place doesn't open until 9pm, but fills up pretty quickly. We ordered the beef tenderlion, french fries, salad, and the house red wine, which was very good. You order your meat, by the kilo and they bring it out to you thinly sliced and raw. You receive a hot coaster... More

A very local restaurant hiding in a small lane. We followed tripadvisor finding this place. Good service though English is not very good, but with lots of body language we communicated well. The best part is the beef, you can cook the way you like, and it is big portion. We all very happy to have this one to wrap... More

We came to el Buey with a group of friends. There were 6 of us and we had a couple of starters (the foie and the ensaladilla rusa, both really good) and to share we had 2Kg of Buey a la piedra with a couple of raciones de patatas fritas. For dessert some of us had raspberries with cream, it... More

Loved the charm and checker-cloth vibe when we went out with Madrid friend, who comes here regularly. So steak comes out on a plate, raw, thinly sliced and salted after which a blazing hot terra-cotta plate is put in front of you. Basically, you cook your own as fast as possible with excellent mustard and house wine (love the label).... More

If you love REALLY GOOD meat, this is the place for you. Order the grill-it-yourself meat plate as my wife and I did. The staff brings a large plate of uncooked meat and, when you are ready to eat it, HOT plates. You put the meat directly on the HOT plate and grill it yourself. Once the plate cools down,... More

Nicely located near to Opera. It's a good old fashioned restaurant, high ceilings and bright lights. Food was fine but nothing out of the ordinary. Not particularly exciting croquetas but some nice mushrooms. Steaks were fine but I didn't think that they were nearly as wonderful as others have said. A couple of little things got me. No draft beer,... More

I was taken to this restaurant by friends from Spain. When they lived in Madrid this was one of their favorite places. I can see why! Excellent service and excellent food.

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
