I always HAVE to have the pimientos padrons anywhere I go in spain, so I had that. Their sangria was mediocre, service mediocre, food OK. I went out of my way to eat here, don't be like me. Loved checking their fame walls stacked with pictures of celebrities with the owners, that was lovely.

Arrived without a reservation but they were able to seat us quickly at 8:30pm in a back room with six tables. Room was nicely decorated but noise level rather high We picked the 50th Anniversary Special Menu for €35 each and a bottle of wine at €28.

The Bocaito is an iconic restaurant that used to cater to film stars and society men and women. And why? The quality of the food and the characteristic style of the various bocaitos are certainly two of the main reasons. Although the interior appears quite outdated (especially in the dining area in the back) as does the style of the... More

We have been in Spain for 2 weeks and have had a wonderful experience. When we came to Bocaito, for the first time we were treated like we didn't belong. Is is that we are Americans? Not dressed quite right? We were there early (in Spanish time--8:30) so we weren't taking up a table. We ordered a bottle of wine,... More

After living in Bilbao and grazing through San Sebastian on many occasions, I'm more than a little spoiled when it comes to pintxos or tapas. I was pleasantly surprised with the tapas here, although they were more like small plates than the traditional put-it-on-a slice-of-bread tapa. The grilled asparagus with olive oil and lemon was terrific as was the avocado,... More

Perhaps we have become spoiled in the UK. Ambience and staff were good. I had two tapas starters. One was elvers something rare in the UK these days so I was looking forward with anticipation. Unfortunately they were not fresh - out of a tin I guess. I ordered an Easter special so it was at least partly my fault... More

After seeing this restaurant in 2 guidebooks I decided this was the place to go for our main night in Madrid. We ordered a selection of dishes all of which were drenched in oil. It was more like bad fast food, not Spanish tapas. The whole meal was a huge disappointment and left me feeling rather nauseous! I have no... More

Bocaito was founded 45 years ago and we have a wide experience in our sector. It is a family business opened in 1966 in Madrid. In 2006, Francisco Bravo y Concha Ortega started running the restaurant. Our aim is to keep the perfect balance between tradition and modernity of the Castillian and Andalusian cuisines. A perfect place to taste Spanish dishes and tapas. Bocaíto is located in the heart of Madrid, a top dining destination for those that want to taste Spanish cuisine. A few minutes away from the Cibeles Fountain, our restaurant is situated in Calle Libertad, number 6, next to Gran Vía and Calle Alcala. In our bars and in our dinning rooms too, you can taste all kind of tapas, among which we highlight our special toasts, Iberian ham and loin, salt-dried meat from Astorga (Leon), croquettes, stuffed mussels. If you like spicy food you can not leave without trying our Luisito. In Bocaito, you will have the chance to taste Castillian cuisine dishes (such as lamb and beef), Andalusian delights (small fried fish from Malaga) and a selection of the most typical fishes from the north of Spain (hake). If, by the way, you like stews, you can ask our staff fot the daily's hot dish, very representative of the Spanish gastronomy. We do have a gourmet menu, the perfecto choice if you wasn't to share with friends and try a selection of tapas and our most popular dishes.

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
