Great place to people watch. Food is excellent, garlic prawns and steak skewers cooked to perfection. Great service at a good price.

A very pleasant restaurant in the Santa Ana Plaza - great for people watching. Lots of outdoor seating. A good meal for two with a bottle of rioja and two more glasses for good measure (we were there for a long time) cost us 48.13 euros.

Old fashioned Taberna. Dated menu and style but ok. Good value menu. Nice wine. Food is all ok, some very good. For example, the asparagus starter were from a jar and seafood soup was insipid. The mains however were good. Steak, cooked perfectly and a Hake in Basque Sauce were good. Coffee was delicious abs wine was excellent. It's a... More

Nothing bad and nothing exceptional about this restaurant, we found it quite average. Prices seem reasonable too. Amongst three foods which we ordered the winner was grilled salmon.

Not only do they have great tapas but their prices are correct, i.e.what a Spaniard expects to pay for his wine and tapas. The service is really good , the waiters are old school , hard to find here these days, the tapas are fantastic, go there a lot. But be careful of the people who beg , especially children,... More

A classic restaurant, full of locals, serving traditional food from tapas to full meals. The ambient is very typical, the waiters are very nice and friendly. The food is excellent, tasty and abundant. A great place to eat like a madrileño in a typical neighborhood in the center of Madrid.

Instead of going where all the tourists go, why not dine with the people of Madrid, Sure there are some tourists in the mix ( the ones who are in the know ) but this is a restaurant where Madrilenos find the best of Spanish home cooking. There are so many good dishes, I won't be able to name them... More

Last night in Mad,looking for a place to sit outside after dinner. One of the waiters was awful as he brought us 2 portions of shrimp canappe which had 8 pieces.i had told him clearly that we couldn't eat much so we only wanted 2 pcs.He ruined my night.Very disappointed.

It was a nice, sunny day and we decided on a long lunch . The waiter treated us as,if we,knew nothing about wine or food and tried to bully us into expensive wine (there are, excellent local wines that don't break the bank) and a large, heavy meal instead,of the fish and salad, which we,wanted. Had this, been a less busy time,we,would have... More

This is one of the best places to enjoy typical atmosphere in Madrid. In a pedestrian square, surrounded by bars and theatres. I recommend jamón ibérico, gazpacho, lomo ibérico, ajillo canapé y pericos. Also a great wide range of finest wines

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
