We had a really good dinner here after being frustrated by the lack of vegetarian options on our trip to Spain. Plus, were were pretty hungry when we got here. The waiter was just this side of sassy, but he was prompt with the food and was very helpful with recommendations. The restaurant was near our hotel in the Gran... More

We went to this restaurant after reading the reviews below too. We ordered a starter which was pretty nice served with tzatziki, which arrived pretty promptly. This was large enough for two people. This was nearly as good as the one we had in Athens, a few days before. However, it could have been served with more salad! The main... More

Went to the restaurant after reading the reviews but had a truly awful time. The food was terrible. I didn't even get what i ordered but the service was atrocious! Whatever happened to service with a smile?! The waitress was really slow in attending to us and it wasn't as though she was busy. The food seemed like it took... More

This was our first night in Madrid and being tired from travelling we struggled to choose a restaurant, even though the city is full of them!. We chose Artemisa because although we are meat/fish eaters we thought it would make for some interesting flavours. It was good although very quiet, possibly because it was a Monday night. We chose starters... More

Was just here in March 2011. Be aware that this place doesn't open until at least 8 or 9pm for dinner (as most places in Spain). Lots of selection. Everything on menu is veggie. Had paella and my wife had eggplant. Both were good. Slightly on the pricey side but reasonable for Madrid. Would come back here again.

Numerous great dishes to choose from. I had spinach lasagna in a light, yummy cheese sauce, expertly prepared. Also, leek cream soup, and a glass of rioja. Total bill was around 20 euros. Upscale atmosphere, and no smoking (halleluyah!) in the restaurant when I was there. No ashtray on my table, either. I'll return.

Wonderful to find a vegetarian restaurant in Madrid and such a huge range. Prompt and friendly service with the menu also available in English. Atmosphere a bit lacking as the lights are bright even for evening service. Had the sharing plate no 2 which was dominated by brown food and rather average. Maybe should have had something else as there... More

It's very difficult to find a place in Madrid where there's such a huge variety for vegetarians but this place has it. The food was delicious, as was the wine, good size portions, reasonably priced, friendly service. If anything could be improved I'd say that the atmosphere could be made more intimate and cosy by not having such bright light.

We got there at 2:30 and were told to come back for a 3pm table... the place was in fact full upon our return and we waited maybe 10 min. Ordered the #2 for two and it included two kinds of croquettes, one nicely crisp but nondescript in flavor, the other a very nice seitan type but completely overwhelmed by... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
